Rating is down because its difficult to watch a game without subscribing to a platform it used to be easy to watch on tv now streaming is the way to go for most people. League pass super expensive and you still cant watch a lot of games. Officiating is inconsistent
That "Shrooder" bit was hilarious, because calling him "Shroder" is closer to the actual pronunctiation of his Name than what coach Nich and almost all Americans seem to think is correct.
I think moving the 3 point line closer is not ruining the spacing it empowering the defense making it easier and more balanced bringing the struggle in to the offence and making every make more existing
I tried to do League Pass, but felt so burned by the blackouts that I stopped bothering. If they got rid of the national broadcast blackout, I could handle it better since the local blackouts I can usually pick up on local broadcast channels. But the lack of consistency is real irritating.
This has been a growing problem since Steph's explosion in 14-15. Everyone now thinks they can replicate him and what GS did during their years as a dynasty, but they can't. Sure, teams have been able to basically double the amount of 3s they shoot and still make them at the same rate, but to what end? The game has turned into a Bonafede 3 point shooting contest that nobody wants to watch. The NBA just needs to come in and put a hard cap on the amount of 3s a team can shoot, let's say 30. This is exactly what they did with the 3 second rule and the 5 second back down rule. Nobody wanted to watch a player back someone down for half the shot clock, just like nobody wants to watch a team launch 50 3s.
Refs just need to be consistent. Sit down before a season and publicly state exactly how you're going to call everything, and then actually do it. Nobody expects them to be perfect, but people are sick of them picking and choosing how involved they get in a particular game. Players have become way too entitled. They make more money than ever before, yet they load manage, show less effort (especially on defense), and are CONSTANTLY complaining to the refs. Nobody wants to watch players behave themselves like spoiled children of an oligarch. Lower the price of league pass and stop making certain games exclusive to certain platforms. Stop bleeding Bron, KD, and Steph dry and actually market the best players, not who the best players were 10 years ago. The low attention span is definitely a big part of all this, but it gets acerbated by all the problems I listed above. People just watch clips, edits, and highlights on YT, IG, and X because you negate all the bs I just listed and only watch the good parts.
The actual issue is the number of Participation Trophy Obama/Biden Dept of Education players in the NBA. The 5 best players are all foreigners and the leader in steals, this is not a coincidence
It exploded with Steph in 14-15, but it really started with Dirk Nowitzki ushering the dawn of the 3pt-shooting Stretch 4s and 5s. The Mavericks shot an average of 22 3pt attempts per game in their playoff and title run in 2011 which was already a lot back then.
@cherby27 You can say it really started with Mike D'Antoni in PHX, but neither PHX nor DAL made teams double the amount of 3s they shoot. Steph completely changed the game, and not for the better. It's not his fault, but the fault of all these players deluding themselves into thinking they can shoot like him, they can't.
I think the NBA isn't as exciting to watch anymore. Players are so good that they make the game look boring. Also, athletically and skill wise there's a lot of players who mirror one another. It's harder for teams and players to stand out because once a player or team discovers a new move or a new play, others begin to adopt and mimic. Similar to my favorite music genre hip hop, copycats are prevalent
Im not sure people want to see threes at all, even if theyre made, unless theyre like crazy step backs or logo shots. They wanna see dunks and ankle breakers
@@felixicuss They want to see balance, Anthony Edwards shouldn't be leading the league in 3PM/3PA, regardless if he's shooting 42% from 3. Curry shooting 10+ 3s a game makes sense, pretty much everyone else doing it doesn't.
@@felixicussdrives and dunks have risen significantly in the last 10 years. It almost looks like people dont really know what the game was like back in the days. Its the low efficiency mid range shots that have been traded in for 3s. Before 2010 teams would shoot 30 mid range shots per game, most below 40%, how was that more fun to watch? And yes, during the illegal defence era (basically: team defence is forbidden) there were more post ups, but that also meant the rest of the players were just standing around and watching. So if you prefer 1on1 basketball than especially the 90s are great. And before the 90s, with hand checking in place and barely any 3s teams were still scoring 110 ppg as they had the same pace as we have in todays game. Hand checking barely has an impact on scoring.
For me my interest has been down for a long while. The three point volume and the lack of skillset diversity has made every game feel the same. I want to see dominance in the paint AS WELL AS shooting. I want to see hounding defenders who are allowed to defend. I think the NBA has gone too far "cleaning up the game". Every little gesture is a tech foul. I want emotion and confrontation (without it going too far). I want personalities. I want to see passion and competitive spirit - not rest days.
Do people watch streams though? as there is no way I am watching an NBA game live with the constant breaks. I prefer watching the replays online, or even downloading them. If they really care about views, they should make it free and cash in on ads.
12:55 Ironically, KD/Lebron/Chris Paul/Giannis are the only guys holding my interest. I like SGA's game and Devin Booker but they don't get me out of my seat.
You may hate the 90's style of play Coach Nick but i definitely love and miss it. The physicality, the rivalry between teams, each team have their unique style of play and identity, players having swag and personality and not load managing. That's what we mean when we say we miss the 90's. Nowadays we get a very bland and boring style of basketball, everyone is playing the same chucking an exorbitant amount of threes and resulting in a sanitized product which is nauseous to quote the late Kobe Basically it's like a cookie cutter housing area. There's no variety and everything is dumbed down and everyone follows that analytics BS. The NBA players have no creativity and identity with regards to their playstyle and overall personality. That's what we old heads mean Coach Nick. You overanalyze too much. We just want a fun, engaging and competitive basketball. Is that too much to ask?
Hey Coach, do you talk to your young players that are addicted to snap and TikTok? I talk to mine and they won’t watch the nba cause the games are way too long. Remember how quick the Olympic Games were quick and fun. That’s it period
Bottom line, the NBA has objectively become a worse product over the past decade or so. You guys touched on pretty much all of the different complaints that people have, in my opinion, most of them boil down to 5 main issues. 1. Style/Too Many 3s. I've already commented on this, but I'll say it again, nobody wants to watch teams launch 50 3s a game. The fact that Anthony Edwards is leading the league in 3PM/3PA is just stupid. Most people just don't care if he's shooting 42% from there, a player of his talent and ability shouldn't be shooting 10s a game. 2. Horrible Marketing. Watching the NBA is way too expensive and difficult. Like Coach said, league pass is too expensive, then you got games being spread out over like a million different platforms, it's a mess. Make it less expensive and more universally accessible to people, this isn't rocket science. They are still bleeding Bron, KD, and Steph dry instead of trying to market the best players who have already been the best for like half a decade. 3. Players. They have become so entitled, it's just difficult to be fans of them. They're making more money than ever before, yet they load manage, show little effort in games (especially on defense), and are CONSTANTLY complaining to the refs. You either get stale bread like Jokic, or immature and annoying children like Doncic. This is definitely one of the reasons why more and more people are only watching the highlights. 4. Refs. I find most people are mainly upset with the lack of consistency. Apply the whistle the same to every player on every call to the best of your ability, and most of the complaints about refs will go away. Isn't that what their job is literally supposed to be? 5. People. The attention span is definitely an issue in regards to sitting through full games. It's why NBA is still very popular when it comes to clips, edits, highlights, etc. on YT, X, IG, etc. It's how people can basically avoid all the problems I just listed and only get the good parts. This can be fixed if the other 4 problems begin to be addressed. The other big sports are setting records while the NBA isn't, so lack of attention spans and illegal streams are not viable enough reasons for why the ratings are down for the NBA in my eyes.
when the guy on the dark green say mavs play heliocentric offense i stop the video, obviously the guy not watching mavs b-ball, its old script bro, just cover other team but mavs.

Yes that was fun to watch. You had to earn your buckets. That's why Jordan/Kobe is still revered over any stepbacker of today.

Give 1 extra point whenever the defensive team convert off a missed three point attempt.

Move the three point line back. Eliminate the corner three
