    I’m Mexican along with other things, I always wanted to display all my cultures and experience what I’ve missed out on. The day of the dead was always my grandma’s favourite holiday and went all out with it, these dance styles always captivated me. I also live in Southern California 2 hours away from LA! I hope to learn more about this culture and desplay my work.

    When I was elementary school they used to bring dancers for Cinco De Mayo and it was my favorite thing. I was so confused when we moved and it wasn’t customary at every school.

    My dad died 1 year after I finally met him and i was 9 at the time being so young I never really got to know about my heritage or know half my culture because of how unexpected he passed. My mom doesn't know what group or town he was from but I'm learning Spanish now and hopefully a DNA test can show me what part of Mexico I'm from so One day I can just visit

    @2:09-@2:15 Reminds me when I wore my Dia de Muertos costume (I'm Chicana) for Halloween A woman taking my photo wanted to show my costume to her children. Because she says that it was rare seeing Hispanic customs in our neighborhood. And that we may not see much Hispanic culture anymore. Keep in mind this happened during Trump's administration.

    God I wish I was born Mexican…I’m Italian and we don’t have beautiful costumes and moves like these… question: could I buy a Folkórico dress and try to dance the Folkòrico even if I’m Italian? Would that be in any way disrespectful to the dance or anyway to the tradition?

    • @offical_lord_farquaad3770
      @offical_lord_farquaad3770 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Of course!! It would be an honor for people outside of our culture to learn our dances. But as long as you are not ruining it or dancing mockingly then I don’t see why not.

    • @rock2946
      @rock2946 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't see a problem with it as long as you don't mock our culture or people! [My mother also doesnt see a problem either and she used to be a dancer :)]
      Honestly, I'd love to see more people learn these dances and share them with others 💕

    We were not stripped of our culture due to most of us getting here rather late compared to others most didnt come till like the 70,s

    • @yeastarly4268
      @yeastarly4268 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EG-qs1sg you do know most people that lived in the part that was Mexico were from the US right? Most of our people here now came from Mexico recently

    • @salatkiel
      @salatkiel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We were absolutely stripped of our culture. The only reason Latin people exist is because yt pipo came to the Americas and raped the indigenous people and then destroyed everything and replaced it with Spanish Catholicism.
      And even after that, when the yt pipo decided to “manifest their destiny” to the west, they forced the border across our lands, taking our lands by force or by “law” and pushing us out. When Mexicans immigrated to the US, we assimilated to prevent persecution and it gave 1st and 2nd generation Mexican-Americans an identity crisis which birthed the Chicano movement.
      This is why there are 3rd and 4th generation Mexicans living in LA who don’t speak Spanish and don’t know anything about Mexican culture, because their parents never taught them and the US education system certainly doesn’t either. Now, it’s amazing seeing someone like her keep our traditions alive through TikTok and I hope it inspires more people to continue those for generations to come.

    • @yeastarly4268
      @yeastarly4268 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@salatkiel most of our people here now came here in the 90s so our culture is alive and well + our culture is literally a mix of indigenous and Spanish culture if we dont have one or the other we dont have Mexican culture

    • @jackystar5099

      She means some people not everyone. Many times immigrants choose to keep traditions from their children to make sure they assimilate better among other things
