That phone mount is exactly what I was looking for with my i8. I know that wasn't the point of the video, but I can't tell you Pat how happy I am that you shared the link. Just ordered mine. Hope you're getting some kickbacks!
Hi Pat, great content 👍 Using BimmerLink you can stop the car alarming if something is left plugged into the OBD2 port. There’s a setting buried in there somewhere! This means you can leave the VeePeak plugged in if you want to regularly monitor temperatures etc without having to unplug every time you lock the car. 😀
Hi, would you know why my Bimmer link app does not even have the option for exhaust flap on display? It does not appear as an option at all. But all other options are there.
Hi Pat. Your favorite subscriber, Corvette Pete and I'm here for the Corvette content! Oh wait, wrong channel.😢😉 None-the-less, I'm here and I always learn something from your genius. Personally I like YOUR by-pass setup where you can manually control the exhaust flaps at will by "tricking" the car into thinking the fuse has been pulled. Pure Genius!👍 Save the Wave🙋♂️
Hey pat, I had a quick question. Do you have to leave the obd veepeak still inside till you finish your commute? Or can you remove it after opening the valve and continue driving? The reason being is everytime I plug mine back in it shows that it’s open...
They are such different cars that I couldn't choose between either. The i8 is great for going to the store, for going on long trips, and for fuel efficiency or performance. The NSX is great for spending time driving on the back roads, constantly in and out of gears in the turns, and gives a feeling of being in a true supercar.
Link is in the description for the base mount: www.proclipusa.com/product-finder/vehicle/dashboard-mounts/bmw/i8 I will probably do a video on how I combined that base mount with the inductive charger that's on it.
Amazing stuff. I was wondering two things. Previous video states you are using bimmercode....this one bimmerlink. Which one is better? Second question, does leaving the exhaust valve open damage the car?
Did you ever happen to do this to your i8? Did you find better answers to your questions? (I’m looking to do the same to my i8 and have same questions as you).
HI, I've used Bimmercode on my previous car and it would remember what settings I gave it. Why doesn't the exhaust valve remember to stay open after you've had Bimmercode change the setting? It would seem unnecessary to have to pull the fuse. I guess I'm missing something.
hi pat, in your testing, did you find out roughly how much throttle in sport mode you need to give it to open the valve ? I tried bimmerlink, but tbh I really want to option of only having it open in sport mode all the time. As thats not an option, second best is to put a switch in like you did and control it myself by open circuiting in sport mode when under load. And then when I don't want it open, close the switch. Switch all fitted, just wondering if you worked out how much load is required to open it to save me having to faff about trying to hear it and discover myself ?
Sadly, I don't know exactly how much load is required because I had no way to monitor the flap opening. It was a complete guess to hold my foot to the floor for a few seconds then try to open the circuit.
Hi Pat, thanks for this useful video as always. I am interested in having my i8 exhaust valve permanently open. With the exhaust valve open, does it produce the same kind of exhaust sound when starting up at cold start? Was hoping it would. Love how the exhaust sounds at cold start but it will only last a min or so.
Yes, it definitely sounds different. Put it this way, even in EcoPro or Comfort Mode, it sounds like it's always in Sport (without the internal speakers adding to the noise). I have a link in this video to demonstrate what it sounds like while driving around. See the description.
Hi pat, I was just watching your video about the bummerlink to open the exhaust valve, when I seen the i8 phone holder, you said if interested in one of these you can check it out on the link below, so I did but they only sell to certain countries and not Scotland, I have searched everywhere on eBay but can’t find one, you wouldn’t know if they sell them on eBay and if so would you know the item number, I would love one of them pat, hope you don’t think I’m being rude asking for your help in this matter, (they also have a number but my phone won’t allow me to call them) thank you very much, John Scotland, 👍
I'm sorry that you're unable to get these items, John. It sounds like you've already exhausted all the searches. I would have also tried to look on eBay as well. I'll see if I can find anything on my end.
Sorry double post in the previous video and here: I do not recommend removing it or leave it open. The exhaust valve needs to control the outlet airflow, so it can be more efficient. When the car is low speed (closed = good for a rev up), high speed (open= better for high speed)
Boy I beat this threw out a bunch of codes, even ones that don't bother the check engine light...not something I'd do. Mechanic of 37 years...there's reasons this cute little flap is there. Just look them up. But at the end of the day it's your property and your check book do what you want.
Glad to see you are still posting i8 content 👍
Thank you! As long as I have the i8, I will find something to talk about, LOL.

Thank you for the BMW i8 phone mount shoutout!
Love my pro clip
Hey pat I bought a roadster after watching most of your i8 vids. Do you think this will work in a 2019 roadster?
It’s the exact same car..
Yes
Really informative video. Many thanks and greetings from the. UK. ..

Did you find the function label
How do you leave the Veepeak in?
As usual...amazing knowledge
Thanks a ton
Great video as always
Thank you!

@@KrishPanch I'm not sure. I have sold my i8 and no longer use the app.

You can probably remove the OBDII if the valve is still open for you.
I'm suprised how much the i8 shares with the normal f series, makes it great for customization
I'm surprised, too. It's quite interesting!
Do i need to buy the same obd device? I have a iCar V3 WI-Fi . I think it will be ok to connect.
Give your iCar V3 a try and see if it works. It's OK.
Very interresting one Pat . T you. I was thinking that now that you got your new car thé i8 will not be anymore the chosen one. Winch one you préfet?

@@PatsGarageOnline thanks Pat, it would be great if you did.
Do these not cancel the warranty?
No
Nice video Pat. Have you played with turning the piped in audio on and off with Bimmerlink? If so, did you notice much difference?
Sadly, that won't work on the i8. So, no possible way to turn it off.

This function is not in BimmerCode. You'll need to download BimmerLink.

The BMW i8 sends a signal to close the valve every time the car is atarted
@@PatsGarageOnline and none of the bimmercode commands will override this, I have to pull the fuse? And thank you for the response I love your videos
