    I think the boys enjoyed your flirting…good thing you didn’t have to go up a tree in your dress. These are lovely big Gouldies, with awesome teeth and battitude. I loved the one who was sizing you up from the edge of the bag…the first to fly off.
    I’m glad only one was injured fatally, and hope the two escapees manage well. Happy for so many survivors who are now tucking into juicy mealworms. There was a serious note of respect from your chauffeur when he found your channel.
    I love that both men were interested in the bats, and the arborist took such good care with them. I hope your parents are doing well, and the next rescue was a good one.🌹🥂🖤🇨🇦

    There’s a saying that golfing is a waste of a good walk. I agree.

    Lopping hollow limbs is good for the health of the trees, but awfully hard on wildlife that needs this sort of habitat. It's great that the arborist cared enough to rescue the bats and call for help. I admire your skill at handling these little guys - I'd be so concerned about squeezing them too hard that they'd all get away from me.
    It was kind of amusing that one of the workers thought bats laid eggs. I remember a few years ago a MOP asked you if the FFs had pouches, which was understandable in Australia, but eggs?

    A very exciting rescue with a great cast of characters and a happy ending! Lovely MOPs saved them and managed to do it without getting bitten or scratched. So good to hear you all appreciating and caring for them and planning for their future. Bet they LOVE those gut-loaded mealworms. A good thing, coming into the cold season there.
    Will the bats be released when they have recovered, with the assumption that they have an alternative roost site? Or will they be kept until warmer weather returns?
    You are so deft and gentle handling these tiny, fragile, frightened animals. Years of experience and continual learning. I love your charming the guys and winning more fans for the bats. I bet they will share this video with their friends, and so the knowledge and caring spreads.

    • @Megabattie
      @Megabattie  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We're hoping to get at least half of them back out there before winter.
      The issue is that the flight aviary for the micros (where they regain flight fitness) is in the southern highlands and if it's too cold there the bats go into torpor and don't fly, so it has to happen soon or else they need to be overwintered.

      I had another rescue to go to before the guy left at 4, and it was about 30-40 minutes away. As it turned out, I didn't have time for it all so I asked if the building manager could put it somewhere accessible to me, or if someone else might have the key. He gave the original sighter of bat the key to the room where he put the bat. I couldn't rush the micros because they really needed the fluids as support for their shock, and I wanted to drop the micros to a carer to give fluids to the bat I didn't have enough syringes to inject. It was on the way, but it was still at least a 10 minute diversion in all (traffic).

    Lovely young men! So happy they were there and so willing to help. Especially advantageous for all of you who work in and with nature. Some people get so wiggly squirrelly when you mention bats. Man that was a beautiful green! I wish we could get the arborists here for our little forest lol. We have to keep fending off lawn freaks who just want to cut down everything. Even if it's YOUR trees and bushes and whatever. I think the last couple who got all uppity crazy didn't like our answers so they sold pretty quickly. After cutting a lot of stuff including some of ours. I mean we've only been here 23yrs. They're not touching ANYTHING on my land unless I say so. They wanted to use the fence that was ours on their side so they didn't have to pay for that section. It would have been ok as long as they didn't close off our access to our yard thru our gate in our fence. Nope. They wanted US to pay to replace some of it and cut down our old tree etc. Brought the tree guy in and he was already sawing away! We were like WTF do you think you're doing? Oh well he says it's dead so we're taking it down. Idk who had more steam coming out her ears. Me or my kid. This tree is in our yard. It has been here GOD knows how long as it was fully grown when we bought this place. And I just said I don't give a DAMN what your tree guy says. It's obviously NOT dead, look up mate. See the green leaves and the birds? Duh. Well she says I'd trust him more than you. I almost went over the fence. Or fell over laughing. Who the hell CARES what you think or who YOU trust?!! It's NOT YOUR LAND OR YOUR TREE YOU CRAZY WOMAN. Man. I would never have the audacity to think all must bow to my wishes like that.
    Oh my. Off I went lol. Sorry. Idky that hit me so hard. Guess it's because we're worried about our birds and bats and owls and the critters or blooms and such. They cut down a tree that had all kinds of nests in it. Every year. She uprooted all the hostas on their land but then went after the tiger lilies against OUR fence. I think even her hubby was ready to tell her to put a sock in it. She was an African American queen so she thought. But guess what? My daughter and grandkids are biracial. She did not like that one bit.😈😎🦇 Thanks Meg. I hope all the shorties come out ok. I love those little guys. So feisty! Remind me of you and my kid and her kid. Little but fierce😉 PS I watched a crap ton of ads hope it helps. Well I let em run anyway. Have seen them all countless times. Idky they call the actual STORY ONES ads.🙄

      @Megabattie  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @mike corona I was paying lip service to hand protection; I ran out of nitrile gloves.
      Good practice dictates I should be wearing bite proof gloves.
      I don't wear them for handling the flying-foxes because they can still inflict a bite through nitrile gloves - it may not actually pierce your finger directly but the nitrile will stretch over the tooth and coat it so no saliva will get through because it's like the tooth has a condom over it, but the tooth can still bite into you and inflict a puncture in your finger.
      I do better with catching flying-foxes with bare hands - I have more control.
      With the micros, I should have had nitrile gloves but I ran out and keep forgetting to buy more.
