Heavy, leaden clouds blanketed the entire sky. Autumn had stopped playing with summer and fully asserted its rights. A hard rain was falling with no sign of stopping soon. Despite it was only noon, it felt like evening. Doris used to adore this weather.
In the orphanage where she lived from the age of ten, she loved sitting at the windowsill in the farthest corner of the corridor. This was her private sanctuary. During unpleasant weather, she liked to nestle there, hidden from prying eyes, with a book of fantasy stories, diving into the enchanting world of magic. Outside, there could be a bitter rain or a winter blizzard, but inside, it was always warm and snug. During these moments, Doris felt an incredible sense of calm and protection, reminiscent of her early childhood when she had a family.
She remembered her mother as young and beautiful, always smiling. Doris pictured her in a light white dress with small polka dots, blond curls cascading over her shoulders, and lips accentuated with lipstick. Her mother worked at the pastry shop, often bringing young Doris cream-filled pastries or croissants. At work, she was valued and loved for her easy-going personality. Doris's father was a skilled mechanic at a factory.
Tall, broad-shouldered, and vivacious, he loved lively gatherings. They spent their spare time like any other family, going to movies or parks. He would carry his daughter on his shoulders, her tiny arms wrapped around him in a mix of fear and joy, knowing he wouldn't let her fall. Her parents were a sociable couple, often hosting friends late into the night. These gatherings ended with a chorus of loud songs, much to the neighbors' chagrin.
What a story and so well narrated. I wish you could narrate all the stories! You are just a breath of fresh air.
Good people find a way to be together and then there is Bree. What a despicable human being and Sven said it perfectly. He would pay for her treatment but never forgive her. I was in shock listening to the end of the story. 😱😮😳.

Jealousy can really hurt. That's Sven. All in all the begining for Doris was a trial of patience, perseverance. It has caused her true happiness in the end with her new found love ( husband Sven ) her baby Stephanie. When a man can accept you in his life with an unborn baby that is not his::: YOU CALL THAT TRUE LOVE. Thank you Madame Author and Narrator. Another best seller. Another wonderful story, thank you so much. I love the way you narrate your stories, with so much feeling. Sven was too good to his ex-wife, paying for her treatment after she was so heartless and greedy. She got her karma. Doris's ex friend was a cunning and jealous, evil person, all from jealousy of Doris. I love happy endings, and this story had a very happy ending, Sven got his eye sight back and a loving wonderful wife and a baby girl. 😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂

How come unwed pregnancies, orphanage stays, unlikely fortunes are a regular part of your stories with a few variations. They are getting predictable and boring. They give an impression that all around are drunks, easy virtue women, children born out of wedlock, illtreating orphanages and millionaires going around searching for long lost relatives. Is this what the society made up of?
@prakashsalvi... These are "stories" not documentaries about life. Sort of like fairy tales or fables, they share characters, values and messages that go beyond the story itself… yet are still part of a fictional format. And these ones here usually have a happy ending.
(Personally, with ALL the negativity, lies and destruction happening around the world-wars PLUS, eg., doctors chopping off young girls' healthy breasts because they have decided they're Not female anymore… and that's called "gender affirming care" (!!) in Canada, US, etc., for crying out loud!- it's a nice change to see positive and good qualities and people find good outcomes in life.)
If you don't enjoy hearing about people overcoming obstacles, and about good things and people in the end… then go see the 1000s of media sources, either non-fiction or fiction that'll suit you.
