A little gift for my fellow Arknights fans out there. Hope you enjoy! The doctor suddenly woke up in the midst of the night in cold sweat. Yet another series of nonsensical dreams, fragments of his shattered past. Something tightened around around his arm as the doctor looked down to see Amiya fast asleep next to him. Last he remembered they were camping out in the borders of Lungmen before arriving at their next mission. Amiya offered to take the first watch so the doctor could infer that she must’ve swapped watch with someone else. Well, he wasn’t going to fall asleep anytime soon anyway so might as well take over watching duty. Gently freeing himself from Amiya’s grasp the doctor silently crept away but not before covering the girl with a nearby blanket. Walking around the sleeping operators with relatively no problem, save that one time he nearly stepped on Lappland’s tail, he walked up the steps of the abandoned building towards the open roof. Upon arriving there the doctor found himself looking at a slender figure facing the waters of Lungmen with a scarlet blade drawn. Ch’en was firmly focused on the city skyline as the silver moon’s light softly reflected off her face. “I don’t think that there will be any enemies around here tonight,” the doctor said as he approached Ch’en. “unless you were just getting annoyed by all the mosquitoes.” Barely turning around Ch’en glanced at the sword in her hand for a moment before responding. “No doctor, I was simply meditating on a question that had troubled me for quite some time now. Further more shouldn’t you still be asleep? Rhodes Island will need their leader to be well rested.” “Eh,” the doctor shrugged, “woke up and couldn’t fall asleep with everything in mind. Since I’m up do you want me to take over watch duty?” “No,” Ch’en answered rather coldly. After a brief pause she spoke again, “but if you truly cannot sleep than you are free to join me.” “Alright then,” the doctor answered as she stood just behind Ch’en because he was still a bit nervous of the fact that she had her sword drawn. “is ther something on your mind?” “What makes you think that I am bothered doctor?” The doctor smiled. “Please, I spend every day with dozens of operators with no shortage of personal drama and issues. If there is something on your mind you can talk to me about it. I may have lost my memories but I can still provide an outside perspective.” Considering that for a moment Ch’en glanced behind her sending a chill down the doctor’s spine. Her bright scarlet eyes shot straight through him as he swore he could see the dragon of her conviction emanate around her. “Tell me then doctor,” she said as her eyes locked onto his. “why is it that we kill? In the end of the day who are the true monsters? Reunion for slaying innocents, or us for believing that we are justified in killing them?” *fellow doctor answer your own response to Ch’en’s question.
