Crazy to hear someone who had been directed by Gilbert & Sullivan themselves singing this role. I wish there was a recording of him doing the Major-General's song, but Lytton actually rarely did recordings as he wasn't thought to have a good voice for it. He was a better performer than musician - it was once said that he was most talented at convincing the audience he was a good baritone!

There have been many greats but Lytton nails the ridiculousness of the pomposity perfectly
