I just watched you spool two reels and say they skip gears. But it's kind of your own fault in my book. It's low gear not 60+rmp gear. Low gear is for lifting/pulling at low speeds not ment for out of human capability cranking speed with a load. You add speed to any low gear does not work well in any situation car, truck4x4, bike ect. Your going to have the same results
Maybe ask Basil at BHP he must have spooled thousands of reels with spectra, ask him what drag he spools reels at. 20lbs of drag at that speed looks like a lot of load to me. I would have thought at 10 lbs all the stretch is out of the braid so anything more is just going to cause wear and tear or failure
10 pound load IS a lot of load--for sure, still with modern reels going way past that mark, I would not think there should be any slippage--not at the price tag.
Mine just started doing this but in high gear while reeling in a 250g flatfall. Took it apart and no missing teeth. Only thing I see is there's play with the main gears up and down on the main shaft
I purchased the 5II and it also skips, sent it back to Okuma twice and they cannot fix the problem.Purchased the Andros12sIIa,that works well in low gear and retrieves SLOW in regular gears. The Okuma repairs department is in HIATUS DUE TO THE CORONA VIRUS!!!GOODBYE Okuma, your craftmanship SUCKS!!
have you try calling Okuma 🧐, I recalled watching other videos where you are having the same problem with other brand of reels ,maybe your winding machine is the problem. 20lbs low gear and at that speed , imagen driving in 1st gear at 20mph, what would happen
He has videos of this happening with Penn's and other reels too. It's common with all of them. Actually the Penn's were skipping much more than this Mak 20 too. This was running the best.
He was cranking too fast at 20lbs of pressure, the gears slip because of it. I don't imagine any reel able to crank that fast with 20lbs of pressure lol.
I’m a mechanical genius!
But common sense says no human can reel that fast!
Why create content and not interact with subscribers questions? Doesn’t make sense,,,,
What’s your motive? This is nothing new to two speed reels!!!

yup
Okuma fan boy:
Was the reel designed to spin that fast in low gear?
Probably not, I have no idea how someone would be able to reel that fast by hand
Take it out if low gear at that speed bud

It's not just okuma. Penn 80vsw did the same thing. I've worked on 3 like that and they still do it.
Its cause you spinning it on low gear faster than its meant 2 be used

Is it common to wind line on two speed reels on low gear? Why not just wind it in normal gear?
More torque, can wind under more tension
I see this issue more on penn visx than the makaira..
Hi Alan, I would like to buy an okuma makaira 30 II sea. I've never owned an okuma and don't know about these reels. is the mechanics reliable?
That clunk while winding is why he posted this video. I would say probably not recommended.

Could be a stripped gear tooth inside the reel damn and being a Special Edition probably wont be any parts available for it .
It's like trying to turn the handle with 3ft stilsons. Waht do you expect?
Isn’t this a common issue with the Makairas or Okumas in general?
He has videos of this happening with Penn's and other reels too. It's common with all of them. Actually the Penn's were skipping much more than this Mak 20 too. This was running the best.
The makaira actually did best, look at the video of the Talica skipping
Is the problem with winder and not reel?
Cranking that fast with 20lbs of pressure is a recipe for disaster.
WHO WANTS TO SEE THIS ? 😢
Why do you think this happens?

@@fadelover123 and he does that for a living , I see tackle shops spooling at no more than 10lb of pressure in big reels
@@fadelover123 What about when a BFT makes a run--and you have the drag set at that, or higher. Should it really slip?
