I did until I found out they lied to the VEC about why I left...I 100% do not recommend working for Allied Universal AT ALL! RUN Get away from this company, but if you are with this company I'd love to hear your horror stories too.

The managers get secret bonus checks if they keep the overtime down. You can put in extra hours one day but they take them away the next by telling you not to come in. But a manager gets extra money for simply making that happen. No extra work done on his part. That's just underhanded, cheap, and dishonest. They let you think you're going to get extra hours (OT) and then take it away.

A coworker abandoned their post after 1am and didn't come back until 4am; drunk, uniform undone, reeked of heavy alcohol and was being hostile and argumentative. He's friends with the Operations Manager, so he faced no consequences.
I've been with Allied for almost a decade now and am hastily looking for a new job. Tired of working downtown overnight around crazies anyway.

I’m a current employee for Allied Universal & I’m going through a lot of what your going through with Allied & other security companies I started security in 2019 got promoted in 2020 to field supervisor then went back to being a guard up till now until I started working for Allied in 2021 it’s been all down hill the longer I was with them. My situation is I’m trying to get out of one spot there forcing now to stay so it’s all bullshit. 3 years into this field and it’s been all down hill with certain people not being reliable & honest, I’m going back into either the automotive field again or doing driving jobs. Allied Universal only seems to care about having a warm body at a post other than having a reliable human being.

    • @WhatShouldMyArtistNameBe

Yeah I'm even thinking about getting my CDL right now haha....I think they care about hiring reliable people but they care more about money and yes the more warm bodies there are especially on the contracts they undercut everyone on pricing it until they can't pay their security officers a living wage...Like the highest paid person at my site besides me and my captain was a 65 yr old who i mentioned covered my sept 1st shift and he only got 11.50/hr. Everyone else was making 10-11. You're not getting reliable people for that little

I scheduled a phone interview with Allied Universal. NO ONE CALLED. The recruiter or manager assigned to interview me for a nice site that pays $20 an hour wasted my time applying online.
I need a security guard job desperately. Falling behind with all my bills. I am former Navy and cannot get a job in NY, a state that favors illegal aliens over legal citizens.
Thank God I have some cash put aside for a rainy day.
      QUESTION
Why would Allied schedule a phone interview and then never call? I feel that the interviewer does not care as long as he or she has an income. It's not a good impression, honestly.

I used to work for Allied Universal. The turn-over rate for Supervisors is ridiculously high. To the point of being literally laughable. Every intelligent person knows you don't waste your time trying to move up in the company. Just come to work, go home, here's your check at the end of the week. If that's all you do, they're no worse than other big security companies.

I literally just quit this company. I've been reading reviews since and NOTHING good about this company can be said. I received little to no training and before leaving I was told that newcomers would receive even less training. I also experienced being scheduled 12+ hour shifts without notice, I made it clear at orientation I have a teaching job that is priority and they still would schedule to conflict with that job. I do not regret the decision to send in an immediate resignation.

Thing is there is just so many things that can go wrong with an account. District could suck at negotiating and bidding a contract leaving you understaffed and with unqualified people in their position. The management could be nothing more than an empty seat that constantly fouls up scheduling and pay, then the client could also just be awful with unreasonable demands and treating the SPs like 💩 because they believe they are so far superior to rent-a-cops. And we haven't even got to the part of the locals that cause the problems creating a need for security.

I generally do not talk about previous employers, they all have good and bad. I retired after 20 years of being a corrections officer and have worked security since at a couple hospitals and then most recently Allied and I definitely would not recommend working for them. There is no good thing to be said about the experience I had there. Folks wouldnt show up for shifts or would chronically show up late and nothing would be done, but if you were never late and never called in somehow you were the problem
The benefits are non existent, the pay is goofy at best depending on the site you work, but most of all if you a a good person, show up, do your job, you are not appreciated and given a chance to go to better paying sites, or in my case, they offer you one but then say you have to pay to work there by paying for your fingerprints and security licence which is a thing in Illinois, but they do not tell you that BEFORE you have to get those things, they just give you a bill to sign.
That was the end for me. Gave my 2 weeks and left. Manipulation, it seems, is this company's modus operandi

I feel you brother I used to work for them when they was Allied Barton in Georgia and you do make overtime if somebody doesn't come to the site on time like they was doing me I used to have to be there at 10:00pm to 7:00am and the guy will run late so I wouldn't get off till 8:00am in the morning but I went ahead and quit back in 2015 because they kept on and off on sites with me it wasn't guaranteed money and it pays every 2 weeks so I quit and I got my money back from the uniform too they are a absolute joke 😅

it actually depends on the regional management allowing overtime because it effects their bonus. they'll always give it to their more important sites...its the same with Walmart. Now I'm in management with Walmart. The more overtime I give out the less my bonus % is...I think each store in Walmart is lotted 50 overtime hours a week among 300 employees. I worked for almost everyone. I worked in security from 2005- present. I worked for securitas, G4S, Gaurdsmark, Par Mar security and so much more. All of the security companies try every year to out bid each other so your pay was/is low anyway. You don’t get raises unless the company you work for cuts into there profits to give you one. Not all companies are bad to work for look for a mom and pop company they need you not want you. I currently work as an armed guard that’s were I have seen the money is going and they can’t get rid of you because you have 40 hours of training and no one to replace you with. I have never worked for Allied Universal Security company but I heard there horrible from other guards. If you get the right company then it’s a rewarding job if not your getting paid minimum wage and doing 20 peoples jobs with overtime. I love security but your right something has to change.

No one really to answer to, just show up, be a good guard for the client so they have nothing to complain about, take breaks and lunch when I feel like it, no one breathing down my neck, one of the highest paid contracts in my area, not too dangerous. The few times there’s been an error with being paid correctly it’s been taken care of. Obviously security officers need to get paid better overall, but we all go in knowing that. The Emails not being answered that's completely true. Its months before you get a answer to anything. As for the pay issue. I spent 99.9999% of my time talking to the client and Allied to get my guys raises. I would get a raise approved on say January 1st. January 2nd I would start working on another raise. That's the way is HAS to be or you get paid shit. If you have a good Site Manager this job can be something you can do dare I say even enjoyable. You NEED a good crew and a motivated Site manager.

They have fired about 10 people in 3 months and we're a company of about 30 guards including supervisors and the 1 field supervisor (sergeant) we have. Even with that I have very few complaints compared with big companies. I've been working security for 7yrs and I'm on my 4th security company. This career becomes what you make of it. If truly interested, invest in training, gear, and certifications. Yes it will almost all come out of your pocket but you can make a livable wage if you have leverage. But from there point of view their paying you to communicate with the client on the property and your calling them with fly problems when theyre probably dealing with several call outs, post walkoffs, etc .

Not all companies are bad. Some do put their people first. I think advocating for higher wages with clients has direct impact on the type of people you get as officers and increases moral. At some point you need to tell the customer what they are going to get at minimum wage, verse expectations. People will immediately seek higher wages at this pay . High turnover, no show no call, the loyalty isn’t there. Just like the company has no loyalty in their people, it’s a two way street and both need to be satisfied. The going rate in my region is 20-25 an hour paid to the Officer not billed. I understand the frustration and needing to express grievances. The only thing I would suggest is avoid the middle fingers at the end even if the sentiment is clear.

because you do know that Allied Universal is the third largest employer in the US behind Amazon and WalMart...because if you're coming from another security company you don't understand how big of a problem this is and I'm happy you have a good situation but for probably half a million people in the industry are underpaid and understaffed and put into unsafe or unhealthy work conditions. If not more even

@@WhatShouldMyArtistNameBe As someone in management, I would want you come to me before it got to this point. Regional manager or higher since it sounds like you expressed your concerns at lower levels and attempted to inform your field supervisor and account manager. I can’t change what another company does but I can set a understanding that if you worked for me, I would make the time to hear you and your concerns. Making sure your guys are heard, is incredibly important with no back lash. It just has to be done in the right way. This thread is filled with new officers, hopefully they find a company that values them.

@@UniversitySecurity and I'm just warning them against Allied Universal who is monopolizing the industry. Buying out or merging with all there competitors until they have no competition. Even if I had stayed in the industry Allied Universal "acquired" the company I would have worked for, G4S. Having to many sites and to few in management is the problem and you're with another much smaller security company so of course you're not having these problems. The client manager was someone I considered a friend but when I started voicing these problems he basically told me to suck it up and thats what I'm getting from other people's experiences with Allied Universal so not your company. What does it say in the thumbnail? DO NOT WORK FOR ALLIED UNIVERSAL

@@WhatShouldMyArtistNameBe I choose to do it. I work 56 hours a week at an abandoned building overnight and get paid to sleep and another 12 hours a week at a shopping mall as a flex officer. Both my account managers are really good and I’ve had no issues. I make 1450 a week before taxes. I think you just gotta get lucky with this company. I’m well aware that a lot of work sites can be bad and you can be taken advantage of. I think when you get into security you need to be very picky about where you work. There’s alot of easy money at different locations in the company.
