  • democracynow.org - Secretary of State John Kerry has blasted Israel’s government, saying in a major address on Wednesday that the relentless expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank threatens Israel’s democracy and has all but ended the prospect of a two-state solution with the Palestinians. "If the choice is one state, Israel can either be Jewish or Democratic; it cannot be both," Kerry said. "And it won’t ever really be at peace." Kerry’s speech followed intense Israeli criticism of the U.S. for refusing to veto a Security Council resolution last week. The measure condemns Israel’s expansion of settlements as a flagrant violation of international law. The resolution passed in a 14-0 vote. The U.S. abstained. We speak to Palestinian attorney Diana Buttu and Israeli journalist Gideon Levy, a Haaretz columnist.

      Israeli influence in the mainstream media.
      They keep him, jewish historian Ilan Pappe ,
      Jewish professor Norman Finkleshtein,Jewish professor Noam Chomsky, and many many others. Sadly most Americans don’t even know REALLY what’s going on in The Middle East. All they want you to know is about the Kardashians!

    The US will be fully back in the pocket of Israel after January 20th. This is an extremely minor issue. Israel depends on US military support to avoid peace and keep feeding expansion. This process will go on as long as the money and arms keep flowing to Israel. Palestinians live just like black South Africans before Mandela.

    I find Miko Peled's thoughts from a few years ago on a one-state solution compelling and it's good to hear Diana Buttu's Palestinian voice saying similar things. How popular is her view in the West Bank and Gaza? It wold be interesting to see some stats.

    Very glad to hear that Diana Buttu prefers now the One state solution rather than a two-state so-called solution based on Nakba, denial of Palestinian refugees. Israel as a colonial & racial creation without official frontiers and in perpetual emergency state will always be at war and a danger for independance in the Middle East. Long live a plurinational and democratic state of Palestine with all religions respected.

    A nuclear-free Middle East - including Israel obviously - is the only way to really start moving forward. Allowing them - a tiny country at odds with the UN on so many issues - to have nuclear weapons was a major geopolitical disaster.

    Israel can struggle from racism to democracy, we are still working through it in the US, but it's the best way, tear down the wall, equal rights for all, forcibly integrate the settlements, live in peace with the peaceable resident. Isn't that what Bibi's own Bible commands?

      the original jews maybe are from ethiopian origins but, the white jews that live today have nothing to do with the original jews from the bible. The only thing they have in common are the bad apples, Zionists and the pharises.

    • @jamesfletcher9268

      TheUnspokenAlias The Israelis will eventually seize the rest of the land and the Palestinians killed or driven out....so...same old, same old.

    • @TheUnspokenAlias
      @TheUnspokenAlias 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's either that, a long-term apartheid state, or the end of "the Jewish state", and all options have this in common that they will lead to perpetual insecurity for the Israelis. Should they go for "the final cleansing", they would be left at the mercy of the neighboring Arab/Persian countries like never before, and since the Great Chameleon said it was only a matter of time before these countries too acquire a nuclear arsenal, which they would then be able to use without fear of killing other Muslims, MAD would be the only perspective for the Middle-East. It seems Zionist hardliners have dug their own graves, doesn't it ?

    • @jamesfletcher9268
      @jamesfletcher9268 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheUnspokenAlias Israel's nuclear weapons...like everyone else's are next to useless...to use them means burning Israel to ashes...no matter the outcome of a nuclear strike. Israel stands at a crossroads...to end the occupation and rise up or continue it...and ensure their eventual destruction. I see no other way for them. Time is no longer on their side I'm afraid.

    I am not sure about the argument FOR the two state solution. Unless the Palestinians TRULLY state and believe that ISRAEL has a right to EXIST. Otherwise a 2 State solution will only be a reprieve of settlements to allow Palestinians to regroup and get political advantage. I feel this is the biggest issue to peace. A TRUE commitment for both nations to EXIST and not advocate as a political ploy
