Maliek, my friend. As always your tutorial was fantastic. But for the purpose of putting PS20U Motion Tracking to the test, it would have more useful had you selected a video showing a Basketball being shot into the hoop. Don't you think?
Nice tut! One thing though.... if I want anything created in the Title Editor (or anything in the track above the video) to track an object, just right mouse click on the title/clip above the video (I have resized video and have had it follow just fine) and select Track Object. Click on the Tracker, place it on what you it to follow, and follow your steps for positioning/resizing and for rendering.
Your issue could apply to this tutorial as well. I had the motion tracking mask applied to the first clip on the timeline and then I had the motion tracking follow object applied to the second clip on the timeline. Maybe it would have worked without applying the mask if I did not have the other clip prior to it on the same timeline track.
I didn't apply a mask and could not have an object track. I reported up the food chain. This is a work in progress, like how MCE was. But with MCE, they've now added status color bars to let you know when your proxy files have been created. A nice visual touch to let you know when you can start your MCE project.

No, I have not experienced that. I did have an issue with PS 19 but the video and audio were out of sync by more than a tenth of a second. The longer the video was the more out of sync it became. Very well produced video. Like the way U explained almost every mouse move the red pointer and each click of the mouse stated out loud. How ever (and there is always an How Ever) Would be nice to know the actual duration of each clip and the time it took to process and the render time. For comparison to other software that are able to accomplish tracking and play back in real time.real time Still much better presentation especially for someone unfamiliar with Pinnacle Studio 20 Ultimate.
Does not work in Studio 20.6.0.322 64 Bit. I don't get the option when right clicking to select mask or follow, but selecting the motion tracking does open a window that seems to give me the options to do what is shown. However after saving and going back to the main window, I do not have the mask object window (black background as shown @6:54 with masks shown) . The rest fall apart from there. ???

Hey hey, I love your videos and have learned so much! I am trying to do some stop animation, with Pinnacle 19.5 I have tried 3 different cameras, but non of them will stay on when I plug them in. Pinnacle can see them, but all I can do is pull the already recorded videos off. Do you know if there is a setting on the camera, or pinnacle that I need to have on to make it work? Glad to see PS has got motion tracking now. I got the impression that the render times were somewhat long, is that so? I'm still using PS14 and that are long also..I was hoping it would be better.
That is subjective, what is long to you might not be long to me. I will say that in my opinion the render times have not changed. You can change the Preview settings in the software which will make it render faster but will make the preview quality lower. I had to watch the whole video to figure out what this was about. Why not turn off the background rendering so you don't have to "wait"? Won't it save the renderings when you generate the first movie file?
Granted I'm using Studio 19 just have not loaded 20 on this PC yet. Problem - TTF (Aerial BLACK) does not show up on the drop down of fonts. Not sure why I can go back to Studio 14 and edit with (Aerial BLACK). I have reinstalled it a few times now on the PC and still the same. No (Aerial BLACK) in Studio 19 text drop down but I have it in Studio 14...
Yes. it is the way Studio 19 and 20 looks at Fonts for text. I have Studio 19 on my Windows 7 PC and Studio 20 on my Windows 10 PC. Both do the same thing. If I load up Studio 14 I can find & display Arial BLACK TTF. In start menu type FONTS - Click Font folder look for Arial and you will see some other Fonts that have a Sub Folder too. Click on the Arial Sub Folder and you will see from 8 to 10 extra versions of Arial and one of them should be Arial Black. Bet when you go to the Text Editor it does not show those sub fonts like Arial Black or Narrow - You can Click Bold or italic etc. but you have no option to click or select other versions of the Top level font.. So fonts like Narrow or Thin as well as other are not selectable. Not just for Arial but others too. The Radio buttons For Bold and Italic only select those fonts in the Sub Folder. I would of never noticed but I use Arial Black all the time on my projects (Closing out Studio 14 and Fully moving or was to Studio 20). Arial Black easy to read and have done all my flash cards with Arial Black. So when I started setting new tittles you could see that aka Arial Bold is not as fat and thick as Arial Black and you just can not get Arial Black with S19/20 to show up. Well that is a winded one. Thanks I hope you can see the problem.
Yes reset. Looks to me like a programming issue. in the way S19/20 pulls up TTFs in the sub folders. I'm sure that 99.99% of the people do not care or notice. but I'm the one person that uses a specific font in a Sub Folder that is not Bold or Italic or Italic bold. More than likely SOL and will keep using Studio 14 for the projects that I need Arial BLACK and that is about most of them. Coral from the chat session it did not seem like they got the problem or it was an issue for them. Thanks
Got a dirty fix to work, so I figure I better share it. So changing the TTF file name will not work (Arial Black.TTF to Arial Black BK.TTF) as you install the TTF font it will always put it under its family name. Found a TTF editor went in and Changed the Family name (from Arial to BK) of the font to something other than Arial, Reinstalled the font and it is no longer in the family sub folder. Now it is out in the open and you can select the font in the text editor. Thanks
great video, but I wasn't able to follow through... I clicked on "Track Motion" and then "Mask Object". I proceeded just like you did in your video. After that I created a title right above the other two tracks and made sure it has the same size as the clips below. What I want to do now is to click on "Track Motion" -> "Follow Object". Unfortunately, Pinnacle doesn't give me this option on a right-click. Am I missing something?
Same here. What I also notice about this video is that there is a mask block (highlighted in magenta) that show the masked area in a black window. I don't get that when doing this process. Version 20.6.0.322 64 bit.

Hello! I have some streetracing videos, where I have to licence plates that needs to be blured out at the same time - how to make two objects blured at the same time, in the same clip?
Questions? I am trying to creat a green screen over a face. I like the function in the "Mask Object" where we can effect the nodes to change the shape of the circle. Can this be done in the mask object or is there another way? Also I have been doing research in other programs. Does Pinical have some kind of "Isolating and Eclipse" tool?
Hey I love the help that you provide. Since when I first opened it everything was over whelming. Everything has worked great until now. Everytime i try to blur something I click on the square or circle and it then says ngstudio has stopped working and it all shuts down and I have to reopen it. Do you know anything about this??
You would need to add multiple blurs to the clip to cover all the areas and leave one area visible. Watch my Censor blur tutorial for direction on how to add a blur. You can use keyframes on each blur to manually make them move if needed.
I am using Pinnacle 20 ultimate, and this video is a great help for me. Now I have a question about other thing: How can I make a text background color advancing during talking: When someone talks, I want to use a text title, like a word's page, and the text will be colored according to the saying. On the text title, the word document is presented, and when we hear a person says a word it will be coloured. When he says the next word, this word on the word's page will be coloured, and so on. There are multiple overlays you can purchase which simulate that effect. The effect does not exists in the software. You can google it and see where you can buy it. I have one that I downloaded as part of my Digital Juice subscription.
So I did what you said, and in the preview window it works flawlessly! When I render the video though, it doesn't show up at all. Works in the preview, nothing when rendered. Any clue? Great video's BTW! Thanks!
Love your tutorials. I upgraded from Pinnacle 18 ultimate to Pinnacle 19 ultimate. When I right click a scene “Motion Tracking” does not appear in the Menu.
Probably not since the process of making them had not changed much since my last tutorial. The only difference is that now you can use a DSLR to capture the stop motion.
Hey Maliek, have you tried the spotlight feature from the NewBlue Essentials add-on in the new Pinnacle Studio 20 Ultimate? Can that feature be motion tracked to follow an object, and can it be done automatically through theeffects add-on? I remember you made a video for some kind of spotlight but it was different. Your spotlight had a circle around a basketball player dribbling the ball up the court. In the NewBlue add-on, they showed a spotlight on a car with a blurred background. I wonder if this spotlight can be attached top the car (motion track) as it continues to move around the screen.
***** Have you tried the newblue's spotlight effect and does it just stay in one spot of the screen (does not move along with the object)? you did an excellent video previously with a circle around a basketball player dribbling up the court. Would you happen to know if instead of a drawn circle, the background can be blurred instead (same as the spotlight effect from newblue).
You can blur out an image but not the background. You can't separate the foreground from the background of the same clip. If you blur an image it will blur the whole thing.
Is there a way to use the tracker to help hide wires or to help roto something in? I have been using the title to create a green shape and then chroma keying it out, kind of painful and hard to see exactly what you are doing. Any pointers?
Pinnacle 20 stalls when I try to preview in the effects editor page and the masking only goes for two frames on the hard copy. Pinnacle had serious stalling problems before and it looks like they're back. What's going on here?
Hiya Mailek I have watched your tutorial on Hd export, and at this moment in time I am exporting to a file, I have followed your video step by step My video was taken from my MAvic pro, onto a SD card, anyway I imported this to pinnacle 19 ultimate and followed your instructions, my video is 7 minutes long with four transitions 1 music and 1 title, anyway I went through all the motions as you described and all seems well but this has now been running for approx 2 hours and it's only still at 61%! Is this right??? Looks like it's going to take 3-4 hours to do a 7 minute video! Cheers, Dave, UK
Following the steps in the video do not impact the time it will take to export a video. What is the resolution of the clip? Based on your PC specs, your graphics card, the resolution of your file (2.7K, 4K, or Cinema 4K) it might take a long time to export.
Hello Maliek, I'm back...was ddb5150 and had the 17 ultimate version. My PC was busted for a while....anyway....quick question; I have some fighting footage, every time the guy hits the other guy I want to put a flash at the point of contact. But what I did do this morning was to use the exact same project and exported to a DVD disc, which took about 3 mins max, and that was fairly good very similar to the original And I done the same with other movies I have stored on my pinnacle and they are not too bad either! Anyway the info I have on my problem is as follows and hopefully you maybe able to understand it? Ok....size 2591.44mb...Codec...Avc1....Bitrate 44952 kBit/s....Duration....7.52 Mins...Colorado depth...16 bit......Frame aspect...16.9......Alpha No.....Dimensions....2720x1536px.....pixel aspect 1......Framestart 0.....Frames 23.98 Fps.....Timeline settings were, Aspect widescreen 16.9...Imaging Regular (2D)... Size HD 1920x1080. I chose HD 1920x1080/25..... Also today I noticed that in the timeline settings or there abouts I noticed that the " Render while play " was turned off, I've now put that to ON! Because you started a new thread I'm not sure what your issue was. I think it had to do with how long it was taking to export to a file? If you click the "Reply button" under my comment it allows me to follow one thread from start to finish. You have 2.7K video so it might be taking longer to export to a file due to the higher resolution and the type of file you are exporting to. What file format are you exporting to? Not really important whether you have Render while play on or off. It is a way to manage whether you can preview the timeline while it renders. I have it off. Just make sure that the entire timeline renders prior to exporting (line above clips changes from brown to green and then disappears).
after a adjusting the track for a couple frames, the video stretches itself horizontally so the middle part is right at the far right corner for no reason, then the video itself just completely vanishes and is replaced by a gray screen with a lighter grey arrow going in a circle on it. I can't adjust a track if i cant see the video. why is it doing this?

Thanks. If you right click on a video clip and you do not have the option you need to contact support as there was probably an issue with your install. You can contact them for free up to 30 days after purchase.
I have version 20.6 - For follow, I seem to be doing everything well but when I add text, I cannot add Motion Tracking -- Motion Tracking is only showing on the Video track, not on the text track
Please help if you can. with this Tutorial I learnt how to do it, but I cannot understand why when I use the shape, STUDIO doesnt' keep the shape I gave.. if I give the CIRCULAR shape after a few frame change the shape.. can I fix it or lock?
The mask is trying to stay on top of the area you highlighted in the scene. It is not trying to keep the exact shape you created. So, if your scene changes, the camera angle changes, etc. the shape changes to accommodate and stay on top of what you selected when you picked and placed the shape in the video.
PinnacleStudioPro thanks, but it isn't exactly my problem. Because doesn't try to go on the top, but if I choose a FACE and I make a circular shape, after few frame the shape change going out from the face without follow the first imagine I choose. Can you understand my explication? Thanks a lot!!!

Is this program almost like Jasc animation shop? I still use animation shop for gif's, but sadly Corel has chosen not to update it. :( Pinnacle looks complicated in comparison.
Hey Maliek (sorry if I misspelled your name) I was just wondering, If there's any way to upgrade from Pinnacle studio 19 to 20 with some kind of discount or something? I feel like it's a waste of money to buy a software that's basically the same just with some added features, and don't know if pinnacle is one of "those" companies.
I don't know of any upgrade discounts. If you feel that PS 20 doesn't have features you will use and it isn't worth it you shouldn't spend money on it.
PinnacleStudioPro well features like Motion tracking I feel would be really beneficial and great to have, but I'm just at a bit of a loss for money lately and don't know what I should do.
I have Studio 20 Plus and have the option to track but have tried it over and over on a basketball player with an arrow to track them and will only go about 15 frames and stops. I tried it frame by frame instead of track till end and it does the same thing. Am I doing something wrong?
If you tried it frame by frame and it stopped is the picture of the arrow the same length as the video clip? If it is and it isn't working you need to contact Pinnacle support.
it isn't even close to the length of the clip. I have to have the effect stretched as long as the clip to get that out of it. if I short the effect to match the amount of time it tracks the person then I get nothing.
Not sure about what is supported that far back. 14 through 20 all support 1920 x 1080 resolution as long as it is the appropriate file format, codec, and frame rate.
I have installed Pinnacle Studio 20, but when I try to try track motion the dialog box #8 Track Motion doesn't appear, I watched all your videos and it looks very simple but how to get this dialog box

can you not use an image or video clip in the title editor instead of text? image or video clip would obviously need rescaled and maybe cropped to fit the mask area

Tried that on multiple titles, videos, pics, etc. and it didn't work. This was the only way that it worked.

You can't move them to PS 20 because the plugins are for PS 9 are for a 32 bit program and PS 20 is a 64 bit program.
Hey hey, I love your videos and have learned so much! I am trying to do some stop animation, with Pinnacle 19.5 I have tried 3 different cameras, but non of them will stay on when I plug them in. Pinnacle can see them, but all I can do is pull the already recorded videos off. Do you know if there is a setting on the camera, or pinnacle that I need to have on to make it work? Glad to see PS has got motion tracking now. I got the impression that the render times were somewhat long, is that so? I'm still using PS14 and that are long also..I was hoping it would be better.
That is subjective, what is long to you might not be long to me. I will say that in my opinion the render times have not changed. You can change the Preview settings in the software which will make it render faster but will make the preview quality lower. Granted I'm using Studio 19 just have not loaded 20 on this PC yet. Problem - TTF (Aerial BLACK) does not show up on the drop down of fonts. Not sure why I can go back to Studio 14 and edit with (Aerial BLACK). I have reinstalled it a few times now on the PC and still the same. No (Aerial BLACK) in Studio 19 text drop down but I have it in Studio 14...

Yes. it is the way Studio 19 and 20 looks at Fonts for text. I have Studio 19 on my Windows 7 PC and Studio 20 on my Windows 10 PC. Both do the same thing. If I load up Studio 14 I can find & display Arial BLACK TTF. In start menu type FONTS - Click Font folder look for Arial and you will see some other Fonts that have a Sub Folder too. Click on the Arial Sub Folder and you will see from 8 to 10 extra versions of Arial and one of them should be Arial Black. Bet when you go to the Text Editor it does not show those sub fonts like Arial Black or Narrow - You can Click Bold or italic etc. but you have no option to click or select other versions of the Top level font.. So fonts like Narrow or Thin as well as other are not selectable. Not just for Arial but others too. The Radio buttons For Bold and Italic only select those fonts in the Sub Folder. I would of never noticed but I use Arial Black all the time on my projects (Closing out Studio 14 and Fully moving or was to Studio 20). Arial Black easy to read and have done all my flash cards with Arial Black. So when I started setting new tittles you could see that aka Arial Bold is not as fat and thick as Arial Black and you just can not get Arial Black with S19/20 to show up. Well that is a winded one. Thanks I hope you can see the problem.

Yes reset. Looks to me like a programming issue. in the way S19/20 pulls up TTFs in the sub folders. I'm sure that 99.99% of the people do not care or notice. but I'm the one person that uses a specific font in a Sub Folder that is not Bold or Italic or Italic bold. More than likely SOL and will keep using Studio 14 for the projects that I need Arial BLACK and that is about most of them. Coral from the chat session it did not seem like they got the problem or it was an issue for them. Thanks
Got a dirty fix to work, so I figure I better share it. So changing the TTF file name will not work (Arial Black.TTF to Arial Black BK.TTF) as you install the TTF font it will always put it under its family name. Found a TTF editor went in and Changed the Family name (from Arial to BK) of the font to something other than Arial, Reinstalled the font and it is no longer in the family sub folder. Now it is out in the open and you can select the font in the text editor. Thanks

Thanks. You can't assign a camera or make one follow anything like you can in After Effects. What you see in this tutorial is what you get.

I clicked on "Track Motion" and then "Mask Object". I proceeded just like you did in your video. After that I created a title right above the other two tracks and made sure it has the same size as the clips below.
What I want to do now is to click on "Track Motion" -> "Follow Object". Unfortunately, Pinnacle doesn't give me this option on a right-click. Am I missing something?

Same here. What I also notice about this video is that there is a mask block (highlighted in magenta) that show the masked area in a black window. I don't get that when doing this process. Version 20.6.0.322 64 bit.

Yes you can feather the edge of a mask that is applied using garbage matte.

Hello! I have some streetracing videos, where I have to licence plates that needs to be blured out at the same time - how to make two objects blured at the same time, in the same clip?
If you can't do them separately, one at a time, it can't be done.
Questions? I am trying to creat a green screen over a face. I like the function in the "Mask Object" where we can effect the nodes to change the shape of the circle. Can this be done in the mask object or is there another way? Also I have been doing research in other programs. Does Pinical have some kind of "Isolating and Eclipse" tool?

Hey I love the help that you provide. Since when I first opened it everything was over whelming. Everything has worked great until now. Everytime i try to blur something I click on the square or circle and it then says ngstudio has stopped working and it all shuts down and I have to reopen it. Do you know anything about this??

How do I do the invert. How do I select and area and keep it clear, and blur out all the surround area to focus on a designated area I choose?
You would need to add multiple blurs to the clip to cover all the areas and leave one area visible. Watch my Censor blur tutorial for direction on how to add a blur. You can use keyframes on each blur to manually make them move if needed.

On the text title, the word document is presented, and when we hear a person says a word it will be coloured. When he says the next word, this word on the word's page will be coloured, and so on.

No it is manual. Stretch the timeline all the way out and then you can move the clip over one frame at a time.

There are multiple overlays you can purchase which simulate that effect. The effect does not exists in the software. You can google it and see where you can buy it. I have one that I downloaded as part of my Digital Juice subscription.

HI, when I right click on the video clip and go up to Track Motion, I get no options.
So I did what you said, and in the preview window it works flawlessly! When I render the video though, it doesn't show up at all. Works in the preview, nothing when rendered. Any clue? Great video's BTW! Thanks!

Probably not since the process of making them had not changed much since my last tutorial. The only difference is that now you can use a DSLR to capture the stop motion.
Hey Maliek, have you tried the spotlight feature from the NewBlue Essentials add-on in the new Pinnacle Studio 20 Ultimate? Can that feature be motion tracked to follow an object, and can it be done automatically through theeffects add-on? I remember you made a video for some kind of spotlight but it was different. Your spotlight had a circle around a basketball player dribbling the ball up the court. In the NewBlue add-on, they showed a spotlight on a car with a blurred background. I wonder if this spotlight can be attached top the car (motion track) as it continues to move around the screen.
You can't use it with the motion tracking feature. You can only use the effects that are available in that tool.

you did an excellent video previously with a circle around a basketball player dribbling up the court. Would you happen to know if instead of a drawn circle, the background can be blurred instead (same as the spotlight effect from newblue).
You can use the blur feature in the Motion Tracker for that.

You can blur out an image but not the background. You can't separate the foreground from the background of the same clip. If you blur an image it will blur the whole thing.

Is there a way to use the tracker to help hide wires or to help roto something in? I have been using the title to create a green shape and then chroma keying it out, kind of painful and hard to see exactly what you are doing. Any pointers?

Pinnacle 20 stalls when I try to preview in the effects editor page and the masking only goes for two frames on the hard copy. Pinnacle had serious stalling problems before and it looks like they're back. What's going on here?

My video was taken from my MAvic pro, onto a SD card, anyway I imported this to pinnacle 19 ultimate and followed your instructions, my video is 7 minutes long with four transitions 1 music and 1 title, anyway I went through all the motions as you described and all seems well but this has now been running for approx 2 hours and it's only still at 61%! Is this right???

Following the steps in the video do not impact the time it will take to export a video.
What is the resolution of the clip? Based on your PC specs, your graphics card, the resolution of your file (2.7K, 4K, or Cinema 4K) it might take a long time to export.

Hiya Mailek, thanks again for the reply, I'm not too sure how I find the answers to your question! But what I did do this morning was to use the exact same project and exported to a DVD disc, which took about 3 mins max, and that was fairly good very similar to the original

Because you started a new thread I'm not sure what your issue was. I think it had to do with how long it was taking to export to a file? If you click the "Reply button" under my comment it allows me to follow one thread from start to finish.
You have 2.7K video so it might be taking longer to export to a file due to the higher resolution and the type of file you are exporting to. What file format are you exporting to?
Not really important whether you have Render while play on or off. It is a way to manage whether you can preview the timeline while it renders. I have it off. Just make sure that the entire timeline renders prior to exporting (line above clips changes from brown to green and then disappears).

after a adjusting the track for a couple frames, the video stretches itself horizontally so the middle part is right at the far right corner for no reason, then the video itself just completely vanishes and is replaced by a gray screen with a lighter grey arrow going in a circle on it. I can't adjust a track if i cant see the video. why is it doing this?
What device did you use to capture the video? What is the file format of the video?

I did not do a full render of the effect made in this video. In the tests that I did export, I did not see any issues with the final export.

I have version 20.6 - For follow, I seem to be doing everything well but when I add text, I cannot add Motion Tracking -- Motion Tracking is only showing on the Video track, not on the text track

Please help if you can. with this Tutorial I learnt how to do it, but I cannot understand why when I use the shape, STUDIO doesnt' keep the shape I gave.. if I give the CIRCULAR shape after a few frame change the shape.. can I fix it or lock?
The mask is trying to stay on top of the area you highlighted in the scene. It is not trying to keep the exact shape you created. So, if your scene changes, the camera angle changes, etc. the shape changes to accommodate and stay on top of what you selected when you picked and placed the shape in the video.

Hey Maliek (sorry if I misspelled your name) I was just wondering, If there's any way to upgrade from Pinnacle studio 19 to 20 with some kind of discount or something? I feel like it's a waste of money to buy a software that's basically the same just with some added features, and don't know if pinnacle is one of "those" companies.
I don't know of any upgrade discounts. If you feel that PS 20 doesn't have features you will use and it isn't worth it you shouldn't spend money on it.

Yes. You can use anything that you place in a timeline track above the video that you want to track.
I have Studio 20 Plus and have the option to track but have tried it over and over on a basketball player with an arrow to track them and will only go about 15 frames and stops. I tried it frame by frame instead of track till end and it does the same thing. Am I doing something wrong?
If you tried it frame by frame and it stopped is the picture of the arrow the same length as the video clip? If it is and it isn't working you need to contact Pinnacle support.
it isn't even close to the length of the clip. I have to have the effect stretched as long as the clip to get that out of it. if I short the effect to match the amount of time it tracks the person then I get nothing.
Make the arrow the same length as the clip of the basketball player and the effect will last the entire time.
My software says Motion Tracking not track Motion,
does any pinnacle studio from 8 to 20 support 1920 x 1080, thks
Not sure about what is supported that far back. 14 through 20 all support 1920 x 1080 resolution as long as it is the appropriate file format, codec, and frame rate.
