Buenos Aires On Film | Street Photography POV

  • In this video, I explore the beautiful streets of Buenos Aires, from Palermo to Monserrat. I walked for 7 hours to capture a full roll of street photos on Rollei Infrared, and half a roll on Fuji Superia 200. This city is unlike anywhere else I've ever explored, and it was an immense joy to photograph it in this way. I show high quality footage of many street corners, buildings, and shop fronts, as well as the resulting photos I took in many of these locations. I didn't bring my digital camera with me on this journey, so every photo in this video was shot on 35mm film (and developed by a local lab in Buenos Aires!)

Cool shots! I was in Buenos Aires back in December and had much fun (I live in another province) taking pics with my friends there :)

Thanks very much for watching! Its an incredible city, but I regret that I didn't get the chance to explore other provinces and areas. Especially Patagonia- its on my bucket list now!

Whoa, that silhouette of the guy on a bike and the double exposure really are great shots. The person walking into the shadow is also a good example of the right time, and reminds me of the stories about Cartier-Bresson kind of staking out just a certain shot or area and waiting for things to come through it.

Part of the challenge of photographing in this city is that folks really give you the side-eye if you stand in one place for too long with a camera out. In Vancouver, its much easier to stake out a location for 20 minutes waiting for the perfect shot. For that shot of the guy walking through the shadow, I had to actually hide in a door-frame with my lens peaking out like a spy haha.

@@YvonneHansonPhotography Oh yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I wonder how political histories might have an impact on how people react to those situations, too. Funny since southerners in the US are major gawkers/super paranoid ... I feel like the brashness and/or arrogance of the photographer plays into that, too. So many variables! But nonetheless, awesome shots!

Why use IR film for street photos? I wouldn't
