    I had 9 Granada Company cars, starting with a 1978 2.8 ghia injection. The last one was a 1993 Cosworth Scorpio like this and was far and away the best of them all. Those seats, well, nothing has ever been as comfortable. Blow up the lumbar supports, pull the head support against your collar, engage cruise control, turn on classic fm and waft along in supreme comfort. They has so much technology and safety that they almost drove on their own with minimum finger tip control. I never had a bug eyed model , which I suspect was equally comfortable. Later I had a 4.2 S Type Jag, which was rubbish, and I longed for Fords to make a replacement in the style of this car. To this day they never had!!!

    I've recently seen this car, its in a sorry state. The reg in this video must be a semi personal one as it had a different reg when I saw it. All the badges are wrong on this car, with the exception of the grill badge. The Cosworth was never badged as a Ghia. The boot badges are off the earlier mk3. The paint job wasn't bad, but they hadn't bothered to do the door shuts, the windscreen is starting to come out. The additional wood stickers are non standard. The rear electric seat still doesn't work. The gearbox has depressurised. It still has the electric tape and cable ties over the engine sensor cables, where the cables have fraid as shown.

    Gorgeous example! A mate of mine once had a manual gearbox version of one of these in Diamond white. Apart from the way it looked, it was ludicrously fast! Scared the living out of me !

    Will become as collectable as mk1&mk2's soon.. I have owned all inc mk3 facelift and in my opinion the mk3 facelift was by far superior to them all &well ahead of it's time. Being a Cosworth makes this a extremely desirable car to own as in a few years prices will go through the roof!!

      IMO, a 2.0i manual is better than a 2.9 12v auto. 0-60 is better. Fuel economy much better.
      My dad had a 2.0i GL and I now own a 2.9 12v V6. V6 sounds better but it isn't that quick really.

    • @mrdoofa9357

      @@lewis72 I’ve found the same thing with the mk3 Mondeo, I’ve had the 2.5 V6 and now got a 2.0, the V6 sounds nicer but performance wise there isn’t much difference at all. The thing I’ve found with V6’s is they are lacking a bit of torque and all the power is right at the top end without much mid range grunt which is where you want it for day to day driving.

  • @iAMChrisCC
    @iAMChrisCC 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow these were the dogs bollocks back in the day!
    Just don’t look at the stats though - slower than the current 520d and uses 3 times as much fuel. Sounds much better, of course 😀

      @kibe1146 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bmw F10 520Da 0 - 100 km/h 8.1s. Scorpio Cosworth mk1 8.0s :D With manual transmission these scorpios accelerate nicely around 6,5-7s and are sporty big cars even by todays standards. Fuel consumption, wasted horsepower and lack of durability on scorpio autobox is a big minus.
      I owned a e39 525iA and sure it was nice to drive maybe slightly better than scorpio but alot of disappointments like complete useless headlights, slower than scorpio 2.9i 12v manual box or cosworth auto, engine failure with only 320tkm on it and could fit my fist through the bottom on front of rear wheels...

  • @limpet7r63
    @limpet7r63 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice example, but I reckon it's a Ghia rather than a Scorpio (which was just a trim level until the frog-eye facelift). The Scorpio badge is in completely the wrong place, and a Scorpio wouldn't say Granada on the boot lid. The Ghia badges on the doors are in the correct place as well. Sold these for years back in the day, by the way. Most 24vs were Scorpio models, and the Ghias were rarer even then, so an interesting car nonetheless, and good to see one preserved like this. They were quick in their day, but I'd imagine the performance is pretty underwhelming by today's standards. Bet that old BOA still sounds good though.

    • @jaromor8808
      @jaromor8808 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope and @Mr100duke nope.
      _In the United Kingdom and Ireland, following the initial market resistance towards the Sierra, something which had been attributed to its radical styling, Ford elected to keep the Granada name in those markets, making the Scorpio effectively a Mk III Granada. The "Scorpio" name was instead used as a trim designation rather than the model name, being positioned higher than Ford's traditional Ghia top of the range model. These models were marketed as "Granada Scorpio", but were badged simply as "Scorpio", with an elongated "Granada" underneath._

    • @lewis72
      @lewis72 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does look like a Ghia with some Scorpio badges but I don't know what trim levels the 24v V6 was available with.
      This September 1992 brochure shows the 24v V6 only available on the Scorpio spec. level.

      Yes, I did spot that too.
      My '87 Scorpio has elec. rear seats.

    • @chriscross8398
      @chriscross8398 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lewis72 I agree. It's such a mint car and it should be kept original. It's madness why they did it. It's a shame so very few of them are still on the road.
