Beautiful rural Georgia. This is also a good video to give you an idea of what this channel is all about. At its heart Sidestep Adventures is my documentation of my love of the rural South. From wide open farm land to dirt roads to abandoned farms and communities that now only exist in quickly fading memory. This is Georgia, and our history, as I see it.

Things may have been rough back then, but I can tell you having visited many black churches here in NC the ladies in those churches are always well dressed in the finest most of the gentlemen too, and every elderly lady wears a hat! I love going to these churches talk about Praise these folks know what that is for real! Stay safe & be blessed

I feel like Georgia is CALLING ME ! Come.... come ...... So beautiful and I am in love with the red dirt ❤️ You are right Robert, that tree lined road is amazing.
That Church looks untouched since the last day they closed the doors.....😢. I am always saddened to see vacant Churches.
Thank you for another sensational, tranquil journey through your gorgeous State of Georgia.... life really does move slowly in the South compared to New York STATE! Hence the tranquil feeling ! Thanks!

I was going to comment on the fact that Cody is involved in this effort to bring the past back and take care of it. I think it's wonderful that a young person is involved in this effort and hopefully is interested in keeping the past alive. I commend him on his efforts and his respect of the past. I am a 78 year old great grandmother who was raised in the city but always had a great respect for the way of life that my parents and grandparents lived, basically in the country. In my younger days I was able to visit the cemeteries and old towns of the past. I took up genealogy about 1989 and enjoyed learning about my family and life in general back in "the" day. I only wish I could still walk the cemeteries and old country roads that I did in my younger days to learn more and appreciate the way of life people lived back then. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and stories you leave us with. Mary Head

It is as though I can hear the echos of voices from the past as you walk toward the church - and I wonder, who was the last person to close that door. Who was the last person to leave that building forever...

From the peak of extreme happiness of a wedding to the depth of sorrow of a funeral, that little church saw and heard it all.
The little white church where my Daddy's funeral was preached in 1950 is gone now. In it's place are many, many huge house in so, so many subdivisions. I can fully appreciate now that Little White Church in the Wild Woods, a song from those days. As I grow closer to 74, when ever you show all this "times gone by" finds of yours, brings tears to my eyes while making my soul so happy to have lived that life, in "times gone by".
BTW, even through the window, the inside looked really nice. Wish we could have been allowed to go inside. But alas......
Thanks for letting me ride along with ya'll on another GREAT country get-a-way!! 💖

Beautiful area. My great, great grandfather was born in Murray county Georgia in 1855 (Charles Wm Keith) and his father Joel Keith was born in Habersham, GA in 1827. This is an extremely beautiful video. I love old barns & am committed to painting on canvas ones I come across in Missouri as well as the wild flowers of this area but your video reminded me of the many trips I made into southern Georgia & could pick out old home sites because of a cascade of pink roses going wild at that time & the orange day lillies rivaling the display in their remembrance of those who had planted & cared for them so many years previous. In most cases the homes were like the one you documented settling into the ground or even further gone..apparent only if one noticed what had been a driveway into the place & a timber or two of the barn rising above the vines & brush. It was those trips that taught me what we do in our lives can live long after us in memorial even if we live simple lives away from urban rush & clamor.
While watching this video, I also decided to save certain of your videos showing such buildings for the singular purpose of also documenting some of the more evocative barns & houses of south Georgia in oil or acrylic as well as those of Missouri. They will all be gone in a few more decades & those who come along later will have nothing to imagine the home sites of those who went before us perhaps only thinking those cascades of roses & swaths of daylillies are only wild occurences.
(I already save many of your videos for sharing with friends & family or to re-watch as many of them do. These to paint from is just another category of my collection & it requires I review all your previous videos for other subject material.)

Cudos to Cody as said before me. I really appreciate your respect! I really wish that there was a method to preserve items like the buildings you have shown to us in this video. Makes me sad to think that one day they will be totally gone.

Georgia has so much history...both sides of my mom's family are from Georgia going back to the early 1700's. I spent my summers growing up in Toccoa where my Grandmother was from...My family there had farms going back to the colonial period. Sadly much of what was there when I was a kid is gone now. I do miss it.

When you found the Penny, I immediately pictured a little Boy or a Girl walking to the General store to buy a piece of licorice or a couple of lemon drops 🚶
That's fascinating, that Church looks like it's in surprisingly good condition.
Great video, thanks for sharing this with us.🇺🇸✌️

My best friend just moved to Idaho because her husband (who loves outdoor sports) couldn’t stand to be stuck in Georgia. Granted, they’ve sent back beautiful pictures from there but to me there really isn’t anything or anywhere any prettier than rural Georgia and Coastal Georgia. Quiet red dirt roads lined with blackberries and honeysuckles coupled with the summer humm of cicadas is like the most amazing thing on earth. I don’t think Yellow Stone could compare. Maybe that’s because I’ve never been there...but I just see so much beauty and peace in our home state. The outside world just sort of disappears when you go down an old dirt road.

Good video. Every time I watch videos like this, it makes want to buy 20 or so rural acres and move there away from the city. With my luck though, it would be a good distance from any job that paid decent.😞

Great video, glad I found your channel. My family has been in Georgia for some 200 years. I am also a bit of a history nerd so I really enjoy seeing the old places around the state.

My great-great grandparents lived in rural Worth County, Georgia in the 1860-80's. Their name was Chestnutt. I wish I could locate their old home homeplace. Thank you for all of your videos!!!

I only visited Georgia once as a very young child on a family camping trip.the roads you were on in the beginning reminded me of it. Interesting places and esp loved the little church. The cemetery seemed interesting and had some very old unusual headstones. Thanks for taking me along. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful Georgia rural area. Would rather look a a country road than a busy city road any day. I wish you had spent more time at the cemetery, could you go back please. The church looks like it had a large congregation by the number of pews. Thank you Cody for putting the flags back. 🇦🇺🐨👍🏼💙❤️💙❤️
