Never would have expected American Mutoscope to be the originator of this film type. There were quite a few copies of this over the next couple of years from film rivals, with of course Buster Keaton even have a feature length version of a similar premise 20 years later. Must say the women were game in this & obviously fit. Europeans had a habit at this time of having men in drag when doing action sequences.
