His live performances are so much better then the album versions. He has an energy when he plays live. If you watch the live performances of this song on TH-cam... everyone of them is better than this recording. It's kinda a bummer the energy doesn't transfer to the albums.

I do like both, but I agree the live shows are much better. Just the instruments, and his voice are the best. Idk what was going on with the recording on the first few albums.
The albums are way overproduced and the live stuff is appropriately stripped down. Shakey just sounds much better on his own without all the overdubs and fill-ins..
Like he said in one interview(paraphrasing), "There's always going to be that one, 'The _________ version is so much better'. Always. Congrats on being the ones! :D

When a couple breaks up, these ghost of another couple come to try and kill them. as we see when the guy pours gasoline on the stuff and himself, and when the girl drives while she's drunk. When the two die, they become ghost and they help another couple who just broke up, because they understand there pain. That's all I could get

I love this song and the video is hilarious.
I feel like the lyrics are talking about a couple where the man is with a woman using him. He slowly becomes a ghost of himself as they go on, from her neglect of him and manipulation. She basically starves him of affection and treats him like sh*t (going as far as refusing to be intimate with him and telling her friends his secrets or insecurities). Even intimacy in the bedroom is so rare, it seems strange when it happens. Then one day, he realizes he is not happy and that, she, is the one who is "dead and gone". The loneliness gets so great that he realizes that the house and relationship is not a home. It is just a constant haunting of who he thought she was to who she really is now. He starts to ignore her abuses and even telling her she has no power over him. There is no one but her actually haunting him. This causes her to lash out in a narcissistic rage, and he tells her this doesn't scare or affect him anymore. He straight up tells her that "You and I both know you are causing this".
Just an interpretation of the lyrics based on some personal experience.
