    This makes me remember about my first guitar (a Yamaha erg 121) which I sanded all by hand til barewood and proceeded to chisel mindlessly... I couldn't find a finish I loved so it's golden over black (over white over red) but I haven't put the electronics on because I moved and misplaced stuff 😅

    My gripe with kits is that it is a money pit, super fun and rewarding but it’s money you’re never getting back and if you don’t have the right level of skill might play as well as a Squier with electronic problems, so this is around 1000 imperial credits , which it is to say it’s not an alternative to a factory guitar, but a great addition to a collection absolutely

  • @Synic42
    @Synic42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice project, and it turned out quite nice. Kit builds are relatively easy to do and you learn so much from it. Just expect to make mistakes and don't expect it to be perfect, you'll learn enough to make the next one a little bit better. And soon enough you've gathered enough tools and experience to make your own complete build.

    Wow. For the price of those kits you could buy a decent finished guitar and save the hassle. Yes, there is something being said for DIY'ing it as I've done it myself, but in the end it is always substandard to a finished guitar just for the equipment and tooling they have to build and finish on a larger scale. If the kit was actually priced at what a 'kit' is worth then ok, but they are priced the same as very good budget guitars, and even higher than a home builder could attempt to compare to without tools and experience.

    Another thing you need to make sure when gluing up a neck into the neck joint is MAKE SURE your neck angle is correct or you're up shit creek without a paddle. Also throw a string butler on that headstock to help with that full straight pull on the strings will help even more with tuning stability.

  • @jcugnoni
    @jcugnoni 2 ปีที่แล้ว +76

    This kit seems to be of very good quality!! It would have looked even better if the wood grains could pop through in my opinion. It is actually simple to do: after applying stain (darker color first), you can take the excess away with a clean cloth and after it has dried, you should sand the whole body to reveal the wood grain (darker where in open pores). You can reapply a light coat of stain (same of lighter color), rub the excess and do a fine sanding to finish. And at the end apply the final coats (tung oil or less). Like this, you will really see the wood structure (if you want to..)

    • @pwhite102
      @pwhite102 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First of all Hunter, i absolutelly love your show, content, builds and everything. My only concern about DistroKid is they were keeping SOME revenue from a brazilian youtuber - it took him a whole saga to solve that issue, which led to DistroKid even removing the "keep 100% of your share" from their website at the time. I don't know many details on what went on with that, but it made me not want to use distrokid for sure. Just wanted to say that. Otherwise, much love Hunter!!

    • @agufish
      @agufish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe the issue there is since DistroKid is a US-based service, it technically counts as you making money in the US , and the IRS forced them to withhold US taxes. It’s a standard thing, and the communication was not great but it has nothing to do with them taking a cut. The other option is to have DistroKid users voluntarily file US taxes, which no one is going to do lol. It’s the fucking IRS :(

    • @TrickyPickins
      @TrickyPickins 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raytorvalds3699 I don't think scale length matters as much as the tuning when it comes to string gauge. I put 10s on my Jazzmaster (25.5 scale) and tune it to e flat and the string are loose enough to do great vibrato but not floppy, while tens on my Monarkh (24.75 Scale) feel stiff while in e standard. I'm switching to 9s on the Monarkh so I can retain the easy bending feel of my other guitar that is in e flat. I think the tuning impacts the feel just as much as string gauge.

    I own 21 guitars that are “store bought”. I just finished a headless kit build (mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard, fishman moderns wired down to a single volume) and I’m working on a 6 string super strat and a 7 string rg style right now. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another manufactured guitar. You can build anything you want for not a ton of money and it’s so much fun and rewarding
