One Pocket...filled a 64GB video card -- sorry for the angle. Couldn't get the rail birds to move.
*BACKGROUND + WHY THE VIDEO'S DISTORTED:*
This day 1 of 3. I believe SVB hadn't slept in a while. As well, this being an excerpt doesn't reflect the outcome.
Obviously I wish I could have recorded the whole thing from a better angle.
SVB and Alex were already playing when I arrived (and people were already using all the seating at that rail). No one was eager to give up their seat for a camera. As it was someone got into an argument with me for even trying to put a camera near him. He is a stupid and temperamental POS -- whom I know for a fact carries a gun bc he shot someone. Some people will know the idiot I'm talking about from just that. As it was, I already had to get the camera wedged in. I just regret is not showing the idiot who wouldn't move (not in a way that would affect him, either) ... deliberately making it difficult. Again, he's a complete and utter dirtbag. Obviously anyone w half a brain would square the camera to the table. I even considered editing the geometry. But pool depends on accurate geometry, and when you edit it, it's not going to retain anything other than the outer edge of the appearance correctly ... and might distort the balls or the table making it harder to assess things afterwards. This really was the best I could do under the circumstance.

This was the best I could do under the circumstance.
@@trumanhw years later, but rotating it so the table is level horizontally wouldn't distort anything, like skewing, which is what you're talking about. Granted to rotate it it would mean you'd have to crop in a little closer, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

I'm glad to finally get down to watching this video. I'm sure that the more advanced players of One-Pocket, really appreciate it. Nice one Truman, even though my neck hurts a little...LOL
Alex doesn't get enough credit for his one pocket game. He opened a lot of eyes in the Frost match. Every time I see him I am in awe. Shane is still my boy though. Thanks for the upload.

hustlr23 I far from view it that way -- and I was there (and play on that table regularly). The table has a track and when the ball rolls down it, it pulls the ball off line. If the opportunities you get don't afford a speed that allows your cue ball position/safety plus pocket speed...or obligates you to move the OB through the track you're just a little unfortunate. While Alex played fucking superb, Scott got abysmal rolls and did get a little disgusted towards the end. I can't imagine a person with a name like "husltr" not having played enough money games to know what its like to get shit rolls -- and how fucking disgusted you feel when it happens.
Truman HW "rolls" are less and less of a factor as players get better. Maybe we are talking about 2 different matches.
hustlr23 You're out of your mind. Amongst players where it's one mistake per loss... each roll is fucking GIANT.
Amongst players where they'll both miss a couple of times or not run out off every roll etc -- its not as bad.

I find it interesting that we defend a game that we love by comparing it to another game. You don't need to watch too many one pocket matches to realize that the strategies are not only complicated but require much creativity, making it an art . . . then, when we try to execute what we have seen others execute, we realize that knowing what to do and doing it are worlds apart. There is no need to defend this game.
People also don't realize that once you learn the strategies and cue ball control you need for one pocket, you have a huge advantage in most other games.
This is a superb game. Like so many other things, the more you know about something, the more you can see - tactics, Q-ball control, when shot-making is critical, dealing with frustration, etc. I grew up playing this game, so I find it fascinating to try to figure out what the players are thinking.

What the hell did I just see at 24:00!? Aside from jumping off the table, how TF do you do that?!
I believe that was a tactical shot. He was trying to shoot the opponent ball into the opponent's pockets and scratching by flying off the table (too difficult to follow the cue into that pocket as well). If he had succeeded, he would lose one of his ball, the opponent does not get to keep the ball. The advantage is to keep the game going and not losing (he would lose if he had not done that). However, he accidentally managed to move the opponent's ball and scratch. So, same effect except the opponent's ball is shifted into his favor. Which is a better position. Later you will see it was a good Gambit seeing as how the Opponent making a terrible ball-in-hand shot giving him an advantage instead.

Hey Chris... I also LOL'd at your Putt-Putt comment. However, my LOL comes from -- and this is somewhat embarrassing to say -- my actual background of playing competitive Putt-Putt throughout my childhood up until 19 years old or so. I even traveled to different states to play. I know for a fact there would've been some players I met who would've played for $2,000/game, if they knew they had an edge over the person who proposed the bet.

I'm 3:17 in, and the Lion is simply dominating this portion of the match, which I realize is only a portion of a portion of the match.
as much as these current players are celebrated, a few mentioned as "best ever", such words only indicate to me the slight view of historical players that are overlooked. I watched Johnnie Everlino play, even played with him for a few hours one time, and suspect he could scalp most of the current players. Danny Di Liberto is another who could hold up well if in his prime. I also saw JOhnnie Irish play in a second-floor walk-up pool hall in Miami, and his abilities, unfortunately not on UTube, are more legendary, not mentioned. I view these wonderful utube players as the best curently playing, but certainly no where near best ever. .
In his prime Efren would give either of these great players 10 to 8. Maybe 10 7, The guys from the 60s dont get any credit, glad to see im not the only person that thinks that the older guys would eat these guys alive, Luther Lassiter would swim through a river of shit to play em
I once saw a guy beat a guy beat another guy 27 games in a row playing $500 a game one pocket.. We were an hour down the road when I finally broke the silence by asking him why he didn’t let the guy win at least one game?!..
Before I could even finish the question, he interrupted “Drew, Drew!.. Sometimes they won’t quit until the win a game”…

@@billysikes1374 10-7 are you crazy? Efren, Shane, and Alex are 3 of the best players of all time. They play every game at the highest level. There's nobody in the history of billiards that could give shane or Alex 10-7. Like everything in life, 1 pocket has evolved. Back in the day there weren't videos and players didn't share ideas. Send Alex and Shane back in time to the early days of 1 pocket and they'd rob just about everyone playing even.

Alex a great and favorite player...but oh krist his preparation with all it's starts & stops, adjustments, and so on is agonizing. The Asian female players must have adopted his style. They have more moves than Kasparov.

It is freaking BRUTAL.
Of all the YT videos (around a dozen) I've seen where they're playing tournaments, I haven't seen a shot clock. I think there's just so much strategy, not to mention the difficulty of many shots, to consider, it would take away from the game for both of the players to play with a shot-clock.
One has to be super-interested in the strategy to watch a complete match. ... Of course, if you love watching Efren play like I do, then I endure the length of the match simply to watch him.

Use the 'L' keyboard key to advance the video 10 sec or the 'J' key to back up 10 sec. For frame by frame use the '.' to advance and the ',' to back up a frame.
