The guy who chose this song for this moment deserves a gold medal. What a perfect ending. The music, the animation, the backstory, the aftermath... MASTERCLASS.
The only time I can think of where instead of using an OST from the show, they use a classical composition instead. Can’t imagine why they don’t do that more often, because it really fits here.
For me personally, I can’t imagine anyone other than Crocodile to be my favorite villain in the series. He was the first major villain Luffy had that was not only a challenge but pushed him to near demise 3 different times. His role as a villain was great to watch too. With how he manipulated the imperial army and the rebel army against each other, to continuing to outsmart the Straw Hats with some of his plans. Some of his plans would have succeeded too if it wasn’t for some people getting involved like Robin, Mr. 3, and Pell who took it upon himself to save everyone. It was also very poetic how rain returned to Alabasta right after Crocodile was defeated. Luffy is the type of character who will forget many of the foes he has faced but Crocodile is one of those villains Luffy will always remember even long after Alabasta which cements how much of an impact Crocodile had on him.
I agree, Crocodile's Baroque Works was the best bad guy organization, his power and influence is very overlooked. A character with that fruit could easily rely on its power alone, but Crocodile had multiple tactics to ensure victory, from his ranks down to the poisoned hook. And his way of killing by drying people up is one of the most terrifying ones Man, I miss the days before Haki destroyed Logia fruits, Enel and Crocodile were such beasts
Crocodile has an awakened DF and was turning alabasta into a desert just like on punk hazard got turned into fire and ice. When he was knocked out by luffy it stopped his ability from holding back the rain
This still remains one of my favorite scenes out of the entire series defeating Crocodile in sync with that orchestra, Luffy proves his a goddamned force to be reckoned with.
What i like the most of One Piece storytelling , Alabasta and Dresroba are very similar in the way the final boss was a warlord. But the way the fights ends is just perfect cinamatography. Crocodile was the underworld boss and when he gets defetead , he is high up in the air for all to see. Don Flamingo was the king of the Dresrosa and when ge gets defetead, he is put down below in the ground so nobody sees him. Just perfection.
Crocodile was meant to be the finale of the original run of One Piece, before Oda was told he could continue the story. The original storyboard ended at Alabasta
The song playing is specifically the fourth movement of Antonín Dvořak’s “New World Symphony”, on Spotify as “Symphony No.9 in E Minor”. The entire piece is gorgeous tho. I got to play the whole piece in an honors orchestra concert, without a doubt one of the best performances I’ve ever given. This fight was how I first found it tho, was so hyped to learn I got to play it!
This was the EXACT moment I knew One Piece was one of my favorite pieces of media ever. I knew I liked One Piece at the end of Arlong Park, but this one scene made me think that maybe watching 900 more episodes wasn't actually so tall a task.
Now imagine that shock when you love One Piece, love this arc and suddenly your favourite work from your favourite composer who was also born is same country appears in this scene. Couldn't believe what I was hearing LOL.
This episode hit me so hard it cured my right shoulder. I pretended to be Luffy and did the Gomu Gomu no Gatling move and felt a sting on my right shoulder. My right shoulder had been slightly restrained for months, and there was always small pain when twisting it certain way. After this episode, I was able to freely move my right arm again.
Such a classic and epic moment with the best villain (in my opinion) in the whole series, the amazing voice acting in this scene and the ost being by far the best part, this is easily a top 10 moment in all of one piece for me
The way this moment has lived rent-free in my head these past 20 years. I knew at this moment that One Piece was special, man! The only finish I love more is Luffy's Jet Gatling to Lucci!
The music in this episode is one of my favorite uses of a song in anime, it hits especially hard when when Vivi says "The rain falling now... will fall again as it used to...since our nightmares are... all over..." Beautiful episode
this scene is my fav of all the series. music choice is so on point it's almost like composed for this scene, from start to the point Vivi realizes Luffy kept his word. i guess there's no other scene they used a symphony as well. masterpiece
That is such an amazing scene in one piece and Luffy didn’t stop punching Crocodile until he smashed out of the tomb. Also the scene where Luffy’s arm travels through the sand is so well done! Definitely one of Luffy’s best knockouts.
Bro once you learn about Nikka you notice that whenever Luffy wins the sun shines 😅 like how the sunlight shined on Luffy or how Luffy yelled "clear the sky" and ruined Enel's raigo
I recognize this musical piece, its called New World Symphony. We played it at my high school. Thats why I find Crocodile's defeat so satisfying. If I had my flute, I could play this while Luffy was beating Crocodile up
This is the arc that makes me love One Piece since it has many favorites like Vivi, Ace, Robin, Daz Bones, Galdino, Bon Clay, and even Crocodile himself! Plus the Straw Hats really gave their all in this!
It's Dvorak's New World Symphony. I think 4th movement? For anyone interested. The start of it has a flute riff that John Williams used in Dual of the Fates, from Star Wars.

When I binged Alabasta this scene was so satisfying to watch. The pre timeskip energy will always be special.
one of the best endings to an arc and still is to this day!
0:40 "everyone's got a plan until they get punched in the face"

The best scene I ever watched seeing Luffy go all out to defeat Crocodile with epic music.

This comment is proof that the One Piece is real.
you can thank doctor chopper for that one
After reading this comment I pretended I was luffy doing gomu gomu gattling and almost broke my lamp
luffy needs to get classical music again when he defeats major villians with an ultimate move.
Luffy defeating Blackbeard or Imu to some classical piece would be LEGENDARY
One of the most legendary uses of Dvořák's "New World Symphony"👏👏👏. Also, that snapping sound at 1:33 is just epic.
That and the light shining down from the sky, signifying that a great evil has been defeated
One of Luffy's greatest victories is still amazing along with the OST.
By far one of the best knockouts in the shows history to date
Crocodile with Haki would be a menace, he went really far without it it seems.
Also love when the sun shines on Luffy at the end 😊
He has haki luffy just had plot armor loo
The music with this entire sequence was perfect 👌
Gotta say, choosing to name the move "Storm" was also a brilliant move, given the story context.
I was so disappointed they didn't use this music again for Kaido's defeat. If you play the song along with that scene it fits so well too!
Looking back now luffy pre timesskip rubber body was only a small portion of his true power
Look at him at the end of this fight and those he freed. Glowing in the sunlight. The warrior of liberation.
I love how whenever Luffy does a kind of Gatling he always goes "Rattatatata" In the middle of it.
Honestly it was at this moment I knew I loved One Piece... Alabasta was peak, and it just keeps on getting better
Definitely one of the best moments in the series
I swear this the top 5 best fight in one piece to me
As an an avid enjoyer of classical music, this soundtrack was so random but so well timed and incredibly satisfying
That STORM is iconic

Ah Dvorak Symphony No. 9. What a beautiful piece of music to fit this great moment.
Crocodile thinking Am i really getting beaten by a damn rookie who is at 30 million bounty
I binged watched every..single..episode..over the last year and have now caught up. What an amazing storyline
Symphony No.9 in E Minor made Luffy’s victory a thousand times more awesome and satisfying than it already was
The way this moment has lived rent-free in my head these past 20 years. I knew at this moment that One Piece was special, man! The only finish I love more is Luffy's Jet Gatling to Lucci!
Luffy is a bad son for beating Croco-mom when all she wanted was him to clean his room.
amen to that in a different way
I played this song with the middle school orchestra back in the days, when I eared that in a One Piece episode 2 years ago I was crying for nostalgia
This was the moment, I fell in love with One Piece.
Watching Luffy beat Crocodile showed me to never give up be brave stick with friends and always fight for whats right, what a goat
I genuinely love the song in this scene, I listen to it anytime I fight crocodile in any one piece game
One of my favorite luffy fights
And the song was a masterpiece

Thats when luffy made himself a part of anime history. Beautiful
It's cool we're getting classic moments of One Piece also this music is great I heard it from Asura's Wrath 😊
If the theory is right the holidays are going to be awkward once everything is done

That battle was awesome seeing Luffy defeat one of the seven warlords and surpassing Crocodile one of many steps to reaching his goal.
For a sec I thought Gunther was going to appear 😂

I wish they used this ost when luffy beats Kaido. Would’ve gotten chills
One of luffy's greatest victories with an epic and classical composition. Perfection.

Classical music is perfect for One Piece's epicness.

This song needs to be in the final match of Luffy vs Imu
"Since we're underground, my rubber body can't breathe! Sweat is as good as water."
How many people did I give bad memories to with this?
