My boys say in my bedroom and I never hear them and I'm a light sleeper. I think after a while they do adjust to you more once they feel more comfortable around you. But they do sometimes get a night zoomy and easy to be trained with the right treat. I use organic oats. They love them 😊
Chinchillas are very expensive and time-consuming animals and are not at all easy to take care of. I would not recommend getting a chinchilla unless you have a lot of previous experience with small animals like rabbits, Guinea pigs, or even ferrets, as their care requirements have some overlap. Also PLEASE do not get chinchillas for young children. This also goes somewhat for rabbits, but they are very timid animals who require a LOT of patience for trust-building, and even when that trust is built, the sweetest and most loving chinchilla will still have boundaries which, if pushed, can cause it to become aggressive or terrified. Do not get a chinchilla expecting it to be handleable or even petable. They will learn to trust you in time, but it takes a LOT of work. They are not suitable pets for people who just want something cute to hold and play with. You’ll have to buy them food, hay, chew toys, bedding, and bath dust about every month and clean their cage once a week. Also, they are not quiet! They generally only make noise when they’re upset or afraid, but they’ll make tons of noise with their chewing and exercise, and they’re most active at dawn and dusk. They’re very athletic animals that require a large, vertically-oriented cage, and they’ll often make a lot of noise jumping from platform to platform. They also need a lot of time on the floor for exercise, and they will chew anything and everything, so you should ideally have an entire chinchilla-proofed room in your house dedicated just to them.
Don't get a pet for your child in the first place...they're (mostly! There are exceptions) incapable to understand, how to care for their pets. Yes! I *KNOW*! I have seen it, I have been guilty of it myself, do not get your child a pet, unless you yourself want to get a pet too and know what you are getting into!
Some of what you say is true but alot is very wrong. Like cost....they are cheap compared to dogs or even fish. They are easy to take care of. I wouldnt recommend for children tho under the age of 12.
Don't forget the temperature issue. Because of their dense fur, they're very prone to heat stroke and need a temp from 60 to 70 degrees max! So owners have to to have an emergency plan in place if their AC ever goes out.
@@jameswatson7067 I own two of them. Trust me, they are not cheap, nor are they “easy” to care for (as much as I love doing it). You have to buy food, bedding, bath dust, hay, and chew toys pretty much every month. And that’s not even covering the cost of the cage (they need a very large cage, as they are very active and athletic animals), the rest of their amenities (food bowl, water bottle, hay manager, hides, platforms, lava blocks, dust bath, etc.), vet bills, the cost of damage they might do to your house if you haven’t thoroughly chinchilla-proofed the area, nor the cost of the animal itself (where I live, they often go between $300-$350).
@@bizarrities674 on and look at the cost of the dog. Dogs depending on breeds can easily exceed 10k. Hell people breed puppies and sell them for thousands. And you must buy food/water/toys for everything. Thats a bad example. And not including the costs it take care of shit dogs damage is expensive. Ive had a multitude of animals. I would say the difficulty is 3/5 for chins. Many others are alot harder.
As a former chinny owner, the clip of the guy holding the chinchilla by the chest cavity broke my heart... That can really hurt them since they have just delicate rib cages and spines. So you should never hold them like that! The cat one was also a tad dangerous. Cats and really any rodent shouldn't mix. :( Otherwise this is a really informative video!
not entirely true, but yeah not the best way to hold one especially for older chins. Feed them lots of vitamin C and Calcium! My little guy has strong bones for now but I am cautious
Completely agree, those two video were awful. The cat can be dangerous to a chinchilla and you should never hold a chinchilla like that! Really upsetting people treating chinchillas like this, especially posting them online! They clearly have no clue how to care for a chinchilla.
Agree with the first not the second. As long as you have proper training and boundaries. I think people forget how smart cats are and if properly trained can easily distinguish a pest and something that belongs to its owner. Its like the misconception of cats and dogs being mortal enemies, yet plenty live together lovingly. I will say that does come with the asterisks of being a responsible pet owner
@@Hobbs__When holding a chinchilla you should support their hind legs. In the video the chinchilla is being dangled and the person is holding their rib cage-armpit area. The lack of support for their limbs will cause distress to the chinchilla. If the person holding the chinchilla accidentally squeezes or has too firm of a hold they can hurt the chinchilla’s ribs or cause difficulty breathing. Thanks for asking! (This is coming from a chinchilla owner and animal science student)
Always make sure to hold your chinchilla like a baby, not a water bottle, they may be big for a rodent but they have bones almost as sensitive as birds, and most vets can’t do anything if you end up hurting your fluff, also exotic pet doctors will charge you 15 grand to so much as look at your pet so it’s best to just be careful
They are also an endangered species, extremely hard & expensive to care for, and often doe when transported due to their extreme sensitivity to temperature changes. 🙃
I have 4 chinchillas all boys. Standard gray is Cibi 10yrs old, Rafiki and his brother Zazu r mosaics 11yrs old and Pumba is a dark ebony 6yrs old. Pumba also loves car rides in the cold season's. And I love them all
They are not easy pets, you need to research and learn how to care for a Chin properly. They need boundaries, a spacious cage, and safe chew toys to keep their teeth from growing too large and which could cause medical problems. Some Chins can be temperamental and can’t share a cage with another Chin.
As someone who had a breeding pair, its almost required that you keep the mating pair together immediately after delivery. We tried to separate them after their second baby to prevent them from continuing to breed and the mother just completely left the kit alone and the other chinchillas were literally shaking the other cage trying to get into the other cage to cover and clean the baby.
We bought one years ago when my daughter was small. We came home to screening. The little guy caught his foot in the cage and chewed it's own leg off to get free. The vet amputated it and stitched him up. Unfortunately he died from infection.😢
They can be quite expensive along with what the other commenters said, I owned 2, Looking back I think it was wrong for the pet store to carry these exotic animals.
Super cute but wouldn’t call them “easy to take care of.” They’re nocturnal and quite loud at nite, also parkour masters.

Fr they are parkour masters. Mine is
You guys can have 1 of these I want a capybara
Also they have some very strict temp needs that can be difficult if you live in a hot area.
