  • New bike day is coveted among mountain bikers everywhere, today I’m taking my first lap on the 2024 Rocky Mountain Altitude.
    It has a lot of different set up options. Here’s where I chose to start.
    Ride4 geometry adjust: Position 3 (steeper)
    Reach adjust headset : -5mm (puts reach at 475mm)
    Mullet Wheels
    Had a great first ride!

    Hey I am curious if you’ve tried the other flip chip positions. I first did a couple of rides on 3 and went to 1 (slackest) for a few rides but it actually feels better on the steepest position to me weirdly enough since I am riding step trails in the north shore. I am also experiencing some rattle but I don’t feel its from the post but from the other two internal cables.

      Hey yeah I have, I’ve landed in 2.
      Started with 3, enjoyed it. 4 looked best on paper but it didn’t feel quite right to me .So I tried 2 and I was like “oh that’s my bike”
      I never ran the stock dropper, straight to the one up. Zero rattles. Quietest bike I’ve ridden.

    I had a chance to demo one of these bad boys yesterday, she's a big boi! Super long and, even in the highest setting, low. but man, sooo stable and still really easy to pick up. I didn't get a chance to ride any lower angle trails but i get the impression that I'd rather be on my Ripmo for the more chill stuff. That said, bloody great bike.

      I think it totally depends on where you’re riding and what you value most! I’d honestly be fine on an instinct for 95 percent of my riding, but I’m willing to pedal around a bigger bike for that sense of security when things get extra gnarly. Especially given its fairly light and stable climber. For what it’s worth I’m running it with the short reach cups and mullet rear wheel, makes it much more manageable for me!

    How do you find your RM Powerplay? I took advantage of the big Instinct Powerplay discount today.

      Absolutely love it. Tons of power and outlasts every other brand ebiker I’ve ridden with!

    I'd be very interested to have your thoughts agaianst the deviate when you have more time on the bike ! Looking for my next season rig and both are on my short list ! :) Also sizing wize i'm more used to 460/465 reach bikes but it looks like the M is gonna be on the short side even with the +5m headset

    Thoughts on Altitude vs Deviate?

      I need more time on it to really dig deep, but the altitude is much more refined and adjustable out of the box. The sleeved cable routing, reach adjust headset, ride 4 geo adjustment’s and mullet flip chip made it 10X easier to get dialled out of the box. The overall weight of the altitude feels lighter, but I haven’t put both on scale.
      Altitude certainly makes more traction and is softer in the initial stroke, firming up in the mid range. Deviate gives the feeling of a more efficient pedaler on a flat surface as it seems to like sitting higher in the travel.
      That being said, being on the lighter side and absent of an idler I’d call it a draw on the climb.
      It’s planted and calm both up and down. I think the deviate was actually more playful, but keep in mind I was on a medium deviate (460reach) and a large altitude (475 reach in position 3 with -5mm headset cups)

    Have you had any issues with rattling noises coming from the frame? Mine has a rattling seatpost that echoes through the top tube. What kind of dropper are you using?

    • @jordanchaplinmtb
      @jordanchaplinmtb  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      None at all, it’s dead silent so far. (Other when you see my water bottle eject in the video, but that was the bottle hitting the frame upon departure)
      I’m using a oneup V3 dropper (180mm with switchgrade).
      I did trim the dropper cable after determining my saddle height. I didn’t ride it with the stock setup, maybe you have some extra cable in there?

      I read the Loam Wolf review of this bike and they mentioned that the rattling/reverberating of the stock Raceface (Fox) dropper is a known issue that should be covered under warranty. My altitude will be arriving soon so I’m curious to see if I have that same issue

    • @myusername1270
      @myusername1270 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MediocreMitchMTB it does the same thing with the one up post I put in to replace the turbine. It’s not a post issue, it’s an issue with the shape of the frame reverberating any keyway noise made by most posts. The alloy bikes do not do it

    • @MediocreMitchMTB
      @MediocreMitchMTB 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@myusername1270 Oh dang. I was hoping it was only a turbine issue!

    • @jordanchaplinmtb
      @jordanchaplinmtb  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MediocreMitchMTB I’m convinced as a turbine issue. Apparently, there’s a shim available that makes the noise go away.
      Like I said, I have it with the one up post and it’s dead silent .

    how do you find the difference in shock location between your two bikes? i was looking into the non e bike new rocky mountain with its lower shock.

    • @jordanchaplinmtb
      @jordanchaplinmtb  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One of mine is an ebike so not a fair comparison. I did own the last model of altitude though. The new one is much more refined.
      The lower shock mount just keeps weight where it should be, down low. It’s also a completely different platform! Both great bikes but the new one is a different animal!
