Wow! I knew he was a great bass singer, but never knew he could do impressions! Kind of reminds me of a song the Oak Ridge Boys did a long, long time ago called "Go Out To The Program". They imitated various well-known groups, such as the Statesmen and the Chuck Wagon Gang.
I was discussing bass singers and someone mentioned Ken Turner along with Harold Gilley of the Palmetto State Quartet. I hadn't heard of Harold Gilley so I decided to look him up. Boy!! Am I glad I did!! Harold Gilley is amazing!! As I listened to this clip. my mind can't help but go back to an old record I have of The Blackwood Brothers "Live". They also have Ken Turner do this song imitating Ernie Ford and JD Sumner, along with a couple of other singers. But both sound a lot like JD and Ford.
I think the PSQ’s best years were with Harold. He was excellent at imitating the other old-time bass singers, especially J.D. Sumner. There were never be another Harold Gilley nor there will ever be another J.D. Summer.
That J.D. slide was so perfect. Harold was so great.
Harold is not one to miss. An excellent bass in his own right.

The most talented bass singer ever. Miss Harold.
