    IMO Analog rev is the best show on DRTV at the moment. I can tell Ian is really passionate about film and loves doing this, Warren really conveys this well through his videography, these videos are really professionally filmed and edited. They're a pleasure to watch. Thanks guys! :)

  • @lawng20
    @lawng20 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I love Ian's approach on how he does his reviews. It's so easy to follow his flow. The editing in the beginning is very creative and a lot more interesting than the other typical intros. Great Work!

    I have one of these that I purchased (because of the f/1.9), at a Goodwill store for $1.99! I had no idea how good it was when I bought it, but soon discovered that it has an incredible lens. These have not really been "discovered" in the U.S. yet so they can still be found on the cheap. The weird crumpling and struggling sounds described in the video are normal, and I have never had any problems of any kind with this camera. Get one!

      For starters, these people who talk shit about not needing technicalities and all, aren't DigitalRevTV. DigitalRevTV puts out content whatever they want and however they want

    • @officialladyfingers
      @officialladyfingers 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      If anything, less Kai content would mean more time for you to polish your photography skills. Though it seems like people who incessantly yearn for Kai and shit over the other presenters are constantly glued to their computers with their cameras collecting dust, as they wait for his weekly return.

    I have to say, this was an extremely good, interesting and fun video. You are a great presenter Ian. I think DRTV now has a really great range of presenting styles with Kai, Lok and you, as well as Warren at times, giving totally different reviews. I love the differences and it makes for a very refreshing viewing option. Keep it up lads and thanks for this one. Oh, LOVED the lens cap at the end. After all, who hasn't done that, or similar, at some time?

    The Canonet QL17 and Minolta Hi-Matic 9 both have apertures f/1.7 so they're both faster than the AF35ML if you're talking compact film cameras with large apertures. Plus they both allow you to select the aperture you want to shoot at! You should do an episode on the Canonet QL17. A brilliant little rangefinder camera that is a blast to shoot with!

    As much as it sucks not having manual options I think you took some of your best photos in this episode haha. I have a Canon sure shot that I shot expired color film in on the side with my Canon A1 loaded with black and white and I found that when it nailed the focus and exposure I liked my sure shot photos more than most of my black and whites. it's a different mind set you gotta get into and sometimes it is nice to not worry about the settings. I take out my compacts on occasion just cause. Also I think you weren't getting down to 1.9 cause program modes on any camera usually open the aperture depending on the ev, like it will only open up all the way if you're at it's lowest possible end of exposure so you'll need real dim lighting, like around sunset. Loving Analog Rev and how fancy the presentation is! Keep it up!

    • @leiya107
      @leiya107 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought whether the film lays flat or not on the scanner bed had nothing to do with film types! Because pretty much all films I've used so far curled so much that I have to put them in the sleeves, use some heavy books to lay them for like a week, or maybe more, and then I can scan. If Kentmere can lay flat right after it's dried, I'm all for that. (Too bad I rarely shoot black and white)

    There was an auxilary lens kit that was produced by "Focal" for that camera. Yeah, Focal was KMart's camera lens... Anyhow, you could place a wide angle or zoom lens in front of the Canon and the whole thing actually looked very impressive and professional. Didn't do a darn thing for the photo, but you sure looked good doing it.

      For $50 or less there's a lot of possible cameras to choose from, film compacts are not really expensive. It's really a question of what exactly are you looking for. Whether you'd like something that works without batteries and is all manual, or something more modern wth AF and all that. I'd go for a Minolta Hi-matic 7/9 rangefinder but you might want something smaller or more automatic...

      Hi, for a small, auto film camera I find the olympus mju II to be a great buy. It's cheap and has a wonderful lens. Cheers, Jon

      You could go more conventional and buy a Canon EOS 5/A2, or a Rebel film. They use the current EF mount lenses, can be used in Manual, and have decent auto focus. Not as nostalgic as the other stuff but they are good film cameras by virtue of the glass available. Otherwise one of my favorites would be a Pentax K1000, it's what I learned with in our High School Camera Club back in the late 70's, as did many many other people.

    Kentmere does very good budget films, I shoot them sometimes and they're very very good for the price!
