If the old wig is made from human can use it. Just make sure that it isn't too tangled if you plan on braiding it onto your hair. If you plan on making preformed locs, then you can just do that and then attach that. Synthetic hair can be used if you want a temporary style.

You could even knot your new growth. I've seen a lady on TH-cam talking about knotted locs, and I've tried it on my locs and it's made maintenance so much easier especially if you have sections of hair that keep. growing away from your original loc. It helps to secure the integrity of your loc's density by keeping all of the hairs in their respective locs.

I think as long as the texture is close to your hair and human, you should be good to go.

@Sweetlyniki Honestly I don't remember. I think 10 - 12. My locs are to my tailbone so you will need a lot of bundles.
