BAHAHAHAHAA!! holy fuck!! first off this entire documentary is amazing.. but, I am speechless at the thought of the new jack "no sell to shooting" angle with PCO... for the love of god hahaha 💫💫💫
I remember reading about this trainwreck as I watched plenty of content during that Mania weekend. Never got into the details as to what exactly happened though so this was a treat to watch as you were also able to have actual people involved in this whole ordeal. Overall this was a great video! 😁
Man, this opened my eyes to Blackcraft Wrestling. I heard the name thrown around but never got around to sinking my teeth into it and seeing this just got me intrigued. Genuinely, this concept has legs and there’s a market for it, just look at Lucha Underground. With a bit more clarity and focus, this kind of dark, fringe, cult kind of take on wrestling can blow up huge.
The original idea for what turned into The Preacher being killed... oh my god hahahaha. I am SO glad that never happened, as hilarious as it would have been.
Randomly put this show on live on Fite during mania weekend. Had no idea what I was watching at the time or of all the things that had gone wrong. It was an experience, to say the least.
I went to one live music event they sponsored and 1/2 the crowd left because they didn’t have their shit together and everyone got sick of waiting for bands to play because the black craft guys wanted to shoot some promos or some bullshit. It was just a confused unorganized mess, so this tracks.
This was an interesting documentary, nicely done, and the fact that everyone involved seems to have come out of it with no major vitriol or sour grapes is heartening. It is a shame it was really a victim of circumstance, the need to heavily accelerate a show, and understandably at the time, the decisions were probably done under the stress of the situation, and we as fans/critics/etc can talk at length about "what I would have done" with the benefit of hindsight and the lack of stress. As for the brand itself, I was aware of its existence when it came out, but I have to admit, I wasn't too interested in it, not because of any offensive values (I'm agnostic/humanist, tbh) - it just was one of those things where it felt like (to me, this is not an affront to the people and the brand) an outcast highschooler's fantasy, with the whole heavily occult/horror style. That said, I would never have wished bad circumstances on it because of that, I knew it wasn't a product for me, but it clearly had a lot of potential and no doubt fostered a small but loyal fanbase, and if it hadn't been for the unfortunate events around No Apologies, would have probably blossomed with its seasonal/cinematic styles. No doubt, that had it survived, they would have probably made use of the current restricted climes to do some interesting cinematic matches. So all in all, I'd say it was a shame it suffered and went under, but it does highlight the sheer fragility of the independent scene, and how it can be difficult to find a footing, and the need for some solid backing and a lot of luck.
For a clothing brand based in Anaheim California, it made absolutely no sense not to run shows and build a following in California. BCW shot their load trying to be the next ECW and paid for it.
I help run a company in Los Angeles and they were supposed to run a show in Orange County but it got canceled week of. We were using graver that weekend
I loved the pco open challenge idea! To have pco no sell all of new Jack's offense only for him to take his gat out and say "no sell this bitch!" It would've had people talkin, that's for sure.
It’s funny how these guys blame Spring Break. Haha. They book 10 matches on a midnight show WrestleMania weekend, had separate production gear to set up and was changing out the ropes for a chain match. But sure guys.. if only Spring Break didn’t go over. All would have worked out. Uh huh.
“Guys we have no clue what we are doing running a wrestling show but listen.... it’s not our fault.. it’s the guys who ran 2 previous years of successful shows in this same time slot as us.”
A really enjoyable doco. Well done. if I have one criticism, it would have been great to get a comment (even an email) from Joey Janela or someone else involved with Spring Break to ask why they ran so long and their feelings about messing up the Blackcraft show afterwards.
It's such a shame that "Jelly Nutalla" going over on his show hurt Black Craft. Honestly, I had never heard of this promotion before I saw this vid, but I probably would have LOVED it! Satanism, horror, hardcore indie wrestling, it ticks all of my boxes! I would try it again!
"This is what you think but you dont know." "You dont get it" "The audience did not get Blackcraft wrestling at all." "We had to be the heels when we went to the other company." They sure sound kinda up their own ass dont they? They slit a guys throat on the show and the audience are chanting "You said fuck"... Smh. Maybe it did not fall maybe the 90's Undertaker/Kane/Mankind nostalgia ran out of steam.
Im a Christian yet I love horror movies and wrestling ! This was a great mix . But I can see why this couldnt go mainstream . A cult following for sure , but that dont pay the bills . So awesome that Bradley was GM ! This could have been great if Netflix or some company came along . Like Lucha Underground , it was different too ,but the dark aspect s a hard sell !
I remember watching Blackcraft Wrestling No Apologies last year. I thought it was awesome, even thought the post show battle royal was weird, i still thought that the product was very cool and creative. Would have loved to have seen more but unfortunately that didn't happen.
Man, one can only imagine how diferrent things could have been if GCW didn't go over their time with Spring Break & BCW were able to have the show they wanted. This was a great watch. Thank you.
I remember watching clips uploaded to fb the night this event took place by people in attendance. I am wondering where I can watch the whole shows film that black craft put on. Anyone know where I can finally watch them in their entirety??
OK ! As a wrestling fan of all types from all countries since 85 , I can say I have no recollection of this company . But after the intro Im gonna watch and see what this is all about ! I do recognize a few names , Lets go .
I hope it comes back! I enjoyed watching all the stuff they did! Every company is going to have a bad show here and there. Let’s hope for a return show!
James Chiofalo the show was scheduled to start at midnight, and the GCW show ended at 10:16, a full 15 minutes before they were scheduled to end. Sadly it seems like BCW had issues setting everything up.
Thanks for the documentary. I really liked Blackcraft and still have some shows in my private archive. EDIT: Is there any commonality (not sure if this is the right word) between Blackcraft Wrestling and NPU (No Peace Underground)?
Quite surprised with the whole wrestling fans being religious thing tbh as I do know that there’s a huge chunk of metalheads are also into wrestling tho that could just be a thing in Britain and I don’t know a lot about US wrestling fandom
Most metalheads in America just enjoy the music and don't want to be associated with cringy satanic larpers. American culture is highly critical and most people grow out of it in high-school because it's just objectively gay.
@@HighItsBubba That has nothing to do with Blackcraft though, because Blackcraft was on Friday night and the ROH/NJPW MSG show was on Saturday night. Blackcraft took place after Spring Break Part 1 on Friday night which just went over its allotted time for whatever reason. It is true that Spring Break Part 2 ended up starting late because of the MSG show, but again, Blackcraft had already taken place by then.
What I love about this promotion is that there is absolutely nothing cheesy about it. Everything is cool and everyone is committed to making it as successful as possible. Tony kahn would’ve been better off investing his money in this organization than his lamebrain promotion.
So, the reason that they never took off was because "people just didn't get it" and not because they were trying to build the company from the top down? It seems like they would have been better served doing the smaller spot shows and hammering out the basics of running a wrestling promotion instead of going straight to Hollywood. There is a market for what they tried to do, but customers/fans can be very unforgiving and have long memories.
This seems to have a certain slant, it seems like there's enough of a niche to support this. GCW exists and has existed for a while now after all. Gotta be more mismanaged and promise made vs kept...

Ever had a friend's friend come around with a guitar, they start playing something well above their skill level - no rythym, no phrasing, just a bunch of squiggly notes that move nothing within anyone? And you wish they would just play something within their capability rather than try to show off. If they did that, it just might be that they would nail it. Then those in the room could possibly enjoy it, rather than it simply being impossible to enjoy. You can have all the amazing "ideas" in the world, but you gotta learn first - and see and hear it how it is, rather than how you want to believe it is or should be. And that starts with actual work, rather than someone simply throwing around a bunch of cash because it sounds like a cool idea.
What a hell of a story but my god the preacher stuff is just so unnecessary! Bookers really should have focused more on the in ring product but this is an amazing documentary.
