      You definitely should! This video was from like 5 years ago, they've all grown so much and become way more comfortable and natural. I recommend you to watch their mmtg interview with JaeJae, it's from 2020 and around 20 minutes but it's really fun and the mc is great at making them feel comfortable
      Ps: I think there's 2 options for english subtitles in that video, one of them isn't very good, so if you watch it I recomend you to check the one that's better and less confusing (I don't remember which one sorry)
      Thanks for reacting to them! They are great and so talented!

    Ohhh welcome to another iconic group! Mamamoo are the vocal queens of Kpop but we also love them because they're very open regarding beauty standards. Belive it or not, they don't fit into the Korean beauty standard which always made people dislike them but they broke free from those chains and freely talk about how they don't need those people :)

    If I had to pick one word to describe Mamamoo, it's confidence. I'm ARMY so I really just stan one group but I have loved Mamamoo for a long time because they have that same strong vein of sincerity that carries through their work, their art, and their love for each other. They feel real to me in a way a lot of groups don't.

      you can stan multiple groups (taking the fandom name) at once, being an army doesnt necessarily mean you cant. ( im not trying to say that you should stan more groups but just generally saying that being an army doesnt automatically exclude that)

    • @t.anderson6069
      @t.anderson6069 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      For me, being ARMY is a full-time job so I also don't stan other K-Pop groups, but I also really like the personalities of Mamamoo members, especially Hwasa.

    • @kpopasmr125
      @kpopasmr125 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      T. Anderson lol what? I’ve been an army since 2014 but hard stan around 8 other groups. You can stan other groups too but I’m glad you support mamamoo! A lot of other armys put down other groups to bring bts up but I think it’s all personal choice. Especially when bts and mamamoo are so close! (Especially Jin and Moonbyul being 92’ liners)

    • @babanaki8528
      @babanaki8528 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Anyone can stan whoever and however many they want! Personally I am both an ARMY and a MOOMOO! It is true that sometimes I spent more time for one of them, but that doesn't mean I stoped loving the other! On the other hand I also stay away from certain groups for my own weird reasons and there's nothing wrong with that either!

  • @ReapTheWhirlwind
    @ReapTheWhirlwind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +73

    Hwasa really is the most sensitive. She expresses love easily and to the fullest extent in public while the others are what Hwasa calls a "tsundere". 😂 This interview is one of the better ones because Mamamoo is less reserved but they're often very professional and distant in interviews. Variety content is where they really sparkle because they love to play and when they're feeding off of each other's energy it's always a good time.

  • @julietapannella

    Solar is the leader of the group and the eldest member whereas Hwasa is the youngest member... She's a badass indeed in every single way, as an artist and as a person. All of them are breaking the korean standars 🙌 in this video they were pretty young but now they're more mature and they speak for themselves more, for sure! I really love them❤

    Moonbyul is an older sister like me
    and when I’m with my younger siblings in a new or more proper environment I tend to focus alot on my sibling behavior: make sure that they are getting to say what they want to say or being understood or if they are being too loud I will be more quiet to balance things.
    That’s how I personally understood why she is more quiet, but I don’t know how common this behavior is with other older sisters

    They were babies here, they were fighting to make the group grow and had to be really engaging with all their activities to show their personalities to the public. They have definitely become more free after these years, because they are now respected artists and can show more easily and in a more natural way their personalities (also they've changed, like everyone does when they get older)

    If this is your first Mamamoo video, I applaud you on the accuracy of Hwasa personality. Yes, she is an independent confident woman. A very strong, bold, fierce and honest one. And yes, she isn't doing what the rest of korean idols normally do, she is different, her own way and in her own league. She is the only woman who successfully defies the korean beauty standard and excelled in doing so. She went from the most hated individual in SK to now the most loved woman. She is known as the Queen Hwasa.

    Thank you so much!!! I love Mamamoo. This is an old interview, I hope you react to a newer one. And yes, Solar is the lider but Hwasa has a great personality. They are my favorite group because they have really built a friendship over the years and have gotten to know and appreciate each other. On another occasion, Solar said that she used to scold Hwasa a lot when they first debuted and that years later she had felt guilty because she realized that she had been too harsh. And that now she has a soft spot for Hwasa and is very proud of her accomplishments as a singer.

    moonbyul struggled with her vocal confidence a lot during mamamoo’s early years (being a rapper in a group of vocal powerhouses) so that’s probably why she was looking down during their little recital. otherwise she’s really not that shy lol.

  • @babyangelally

    Yes mamamoo my favorite girlgroup ever

  • @mari_7846
    @mari_7846 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    It's amazing how this reading of the girls is pretty spot on. Even though all of them consider themselves to be shy, it's normally Solar and Hwasa who take the lead during conversations. Solar is actually the leader of the group and Hwasa is indeed the one who expresses her vulnerability more often. And yeah, Wheein is usually very easy to read. As for Moonbyul, I'm thinking since this is the beginning of their career, she was still coming to terms with being the rapper in a vocally focused group. That might be why she doesn't feel so at ease.
    I'm really interested in watching the complete reaction. Also, I'd love if you could do another analysis of a more recent video of the girls and compare how things changed or didn't change.
    Anything involving Mamamoo is a guaranteed watch from me so thank you for this and keep them coming please.

  • @HindSenhaji
    @HindSenhaji 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Absolutely loved the analysis! And it's impressive how much you've been on point about many things:
    - Solar is indeed the leader of the group. Since she never took up an eldest/leader role in her life before she revealed that she was very pressured by the position in their early days (like this interview) and felt the responsibility of being the face of the group and making people like her.
    - Hwasa's nickname is 'My Way', and she's very outspoken about who she is and what she wants to do. She's incredibly honest about her emotions too and that translates into her solo music. And yes, she's extremely popular internationally lol
    - I was impressed by your reading of Wheein's personality because not a lot of people notice that about her at first. She's very transparent and can hardly hide what she's thinking or feeling.
    - Now Moonbyul, it's true that in their early days, and as the eldest in her own family, she had taken up the role of someone on the quieter side who watches over her over-energetic members, and balances out their hyperness.
    I would love to see you react to a more recent video, namely because you'll be surprised at how the dynamics changed overtime, especially for Moonbyul who did a complete 180° turn lol

    I love Mamamoo’s personalities and music. They’re phenomenal singers and also strong independent brave young women who fight back restrictive societal rules and don’t just compromise their true selves to “fit in” and avoid haters.
    I think they’re such good role models especially for young girls who have similar struggles with fitting the impossibly high beauty/femininity standards.
    Btw I honestly don’t respect this “culture” of incredibly high and narrow beauty standards. I came from an Asian country myself and I’ve seen so many women there get shamed for their weight, tanned skin, small eyes, deep voice (yeah a lot of people in Asia hate girls with deep voice lol), ambitious “bossy” personalities etc.
    And I’ve seen these women internalising these shames, having low self-esteem and believing they’re “ugly” or not feminine enough, just because they don’t fit others’ expectations.
    As an Asian woman who has experienced all this, it is quite tiring on the soul. I felt like I was trying to respect a culture that doesn’t respect me. I love my culture but does it love me back?
    I’m around the same age as Mamamoo and, at some point, I just “gave up” on those feminine standards. I was just exhausted.
    I looked at these girls and how happy they are by just being themselves. Women like them made me realise that it’s ok to just chill and be who they are. You can be happy and successful without obeying what everyone else tells you to do. That was actually a very hard lesson for me and many girls/boys to learn.

  • @c4ordchick

    You need to react to a more recent video. This was near when they first debut. Moonbyul was more quiet and shy then because her self esteem had been shattered because of their CEO who told her she could only debut if she became a rapper so she had to learn to rap when her passion was singing and she has a very beautiful voice when she sings. Also she was told to control how wide she smiled because she was "ugly" when she smiled widely.

  • @GraceW-jx3ll
    @GraceW-jx3ll 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    They’re all such different yet personalities which are so unique and blend together so smoothly. I’d sorta describe them as just four friends that have come together to make music. And Hwasa and Wheein have actually been best friends since middle school.
    Fun fact: aside from all the normal content from mamamoo, we’re spoilt with their individual content. Like solar has her really popular TH-cam channel and Hwasa is a regular on this Korean tv show called I live alone where you see how some celebs spend a day of their life. Hwasa is also known as the mukbang queen bcs she has literally made all types of food sell out, the most iconic being cow intestines😂
    The other two, when and moon yuk haven’t released as much content as the other two but they still have guested in some shows and released their own solos as well. And I know wheein esp out of all the members releases a lot of covers and has soo many collars Bcs she has the best honey voice which blends well with anyone (honestly sometimes the backbone of their harmonies Bcs her voice goes well with anyone)
    Hope you enjoy watching these ladies. Also I’m sure you’ll release but they’ll give off more of a mature vibe as honestly they started much ‘later’ compared when some other idols debut.

  • @AnaissN

    I love all the compliments and accuracy of Hwasa's portrayal! You have great observation skills! She's indeed a star with great international popularity (if only their company would actually PROMOTE her, she would be on top, I promise). And what she said about herself is also true, she's also very sensitive, because despite that badass attitude she has on public, there's also a lot of vulnerability in her that she has revelead in her songs and to her fans. You also picked Solar's energy really well here, she's really a sunshine as her name suggests 😊, and the leader of Mamamoo, and the group was in the early days here, so she was still adjusting to that role, I think. And Wheein bluntness is really true! She's very honest about her feelings!
    And I think you need to see more of Moonbyul to get to know her! Moonbyul now has a radio show and a youtube channel as well (moonbyul2da), she had 2 popular girlgroups that are her friends as guests in one of her recent videos, maybe an opportunity to know Moonbyu more! (And also Seulgi from Red Velvet and Hyojung from Oh My Girl are in the video)

    Besides their amazing chemistry with each other, they're such strong individuals that exult confidence and charm in everything they do both together and on their own.

    If you're not bothered about the length of the video, I'd like to recommend their Idol Radio episode where Yong Leader (Solar) and future CEO Moon (the name she has during her 3 times weekly radio show named Studio Moon Night) are the DJs/MCs while WheePup and Ahn My Way Hyejin (Hwasa's name), also known as Ahnyonce, were the guests.
    The whole episode was 1h 30mins long as they went overtime, but the PD didn't tell them about it and let them overrun, which you'll find out the reason why if you ever decide to watch it. 😁😁😁

    Wow! As a moo moo, I would say most (if not all) the things you analyzed about the members was true, but as you said, there are definitely other sides to them, and I feel like you didn’t get to see much of Moonbyul. One thing to note, that would add a bit of context, is that Mamamoo released a song called 1cm taller than you on this (melting) album; it’s a fun song where the members are just dissing each other and nitpicking about their heights, so that might have been why it was brought up in the interview. I’m not sure what clips are best to recommend for you to analyze, but there’s a really great one of Solar ft. the members (of course) called “Solar being the leader and mother of Mamamoo”:th-cam.com/video/zDHpaw9IHTs/w-d-xo.html

    BTS and Mamamoo are on another level when it comes to being genuine, Real, and relatable. They both came from smal agencies which makes their success quite remarquable. Bts Moonbyul and Jin are friends, just to help you get her personality more, and most of the time she actually acts like a mother to the group ( Solar is the eldest, Moonbyul is the second eldest) I love all the girls, each one of them is uniquely different. but Moonbyul is just my favorite person, because she doesn't play the sexy or cute persona (even if she is to me) she's just herself and I love it.
    The girls don't shy away from saying what they think, and I respect that so much. On social events they may seem aloof and intimidating ( especially Hwassa ) but when they are together it's just so fun to see💜
    Loved your reaction, thank you so much. I hope you'll see more of them. I think if you like BTS you'll definetly love Mamamoo, their confidence is on another level. I always love to hear your insight, it's really cultivating, thank you👏🙏

    I’m glad that you said it made you uncomfortable bc that’s an actual problem with Korean variety shows. A lot of shows seem like they make fun of the idol and the idol obviously can’t say anything about it, they just sit there and laugh nervously. It’s like their intentionally trying to make the idol feel bad for entertainment but the thing is ITS NOT ENTERTAINING 😭 ITS UNCOMFORTABLE
    They make the idol AND the audience feel bad on multiple levels and honestly I’m not here for it

    You were on point about

    Please do more MAMAMOO omg they are amazing girls and very unique. I think u will be very surprised with Moonbyul’s personality. There they were trying to be more collected since it was right on their early days as a group and were trying to make it grow, but nowadays they are kinda different and u will see much more about how open they are.

    Wow, watching an old video like this really brings out how much they’ve changed over time. If you do a more recent one, maybe do their interview with Jaejae. They all seem more comfortable there and show a different side of themselves.

    They are talking about 1 cm because they have a song that teases each other about how short they are. It’s a fun talking point because of the song. You gotta know the context of the conversation.

    Hey Max, so happy to see you react to Mamamoo, another one of my favourite groups! I think you were pretty spot on in your analysis.
    Mamamoo radiate confidence and realness. But I had to agree with you on your feeling of unease about the many comments about appearances. If I may add some context, when they were starting out Mamamoo and especially Hwasa got a lot of negativity for not fitting the Korean beauty standards. Of course they powered through and became very successful, but I think it probably did affect them quite a bit, especially early on. These themes are touched on in some of their songs and they are known for their kind of love-yourself and do-your-own-thing power anthems ;) I would love for you to react to more of their videos, especially more recent ones.
    Anyway, keep up the good work. See you in the next video.

  • @if8172
    @if8172 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Korean humour and social interactions are naturally different from say Western. Comments on looks are made very openly and is usually taken without any hint of offense. So if a foreigner felt insulted in Korea simply because someone pointed out something about their appearance then he/she would be considered the 'uncomfortable' and overly sensitive person in that situation. One must also consider the obvious fact that the same sentence can carry completely different nuances when said in different languages, especially when read in written captions.
    p.s the talk about their height is a running joke between Mamamoo and their fans.

  • @fennecfox3893
    @fennecfox3893 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the reason the whole 1cm thing was brought up by the host is that the artist's company typically supply some potential talking points to the tv show. And it's well known in the fandom that the girls argue in a "friendly" way about height because they're all short. They even have a song about it called 1cm. You were spot on with quite a few observations, however, when you look deeper things may not be so clear cut. For instance Hwasa is well know for her confidence and commanding (even scary) presence on stage, but off stage she may actually be the most gentle of the members.

    The interview talks about looks a lot because the two songs they are promoting are talking about it. They made a song dissing each other on height and their main track was a song about a guy who has all the qualities they want and it’s called You’re the Best. So that’s why this interview seemed so physically focused.
