Loved this show growing up. I think everyone loved it.
It represented a special place in time. Family values and Love of Country and God was practiced in everyday life in America.

The Walton's was my Mother's favorite television show too! The house is a must visit for me. I'm putting it on my list. I would have never known it's existence if it wasn't for TDW. I love this daily Vlog channel. Happy Friday everyone.

The first movie was called "The Homecoming: A Christmas Story," and featured the late GREAT actress Patricia Neil. Not sure why Ms. Neil did not do the series, but I'm sure there is a TH-cam video about it. I watched that movie in 1972 on NBC (channel 4) on the upstairs TV at my Grandmother's house when I was 9 years old. It had a profound effect on me then and has continued to to this day. Almost every year I watch The Christmas Story. Turns out "The Waltons" were "Pioneer Stock" just like my own family. That's why it resonated so deeply. I look forward to visiting the "Sacred Ground" of Hamner's childhood home - thank you for this wonderful video to tide me over till then. We are creating our own Walton's Mountain here in Cobden. Here is a slice for those of you rife with Nostalgia for Americana. th-cam.com/video/fj4T5qBTkJU/w-d-xo.html

Hi Adam, a while back you asked for suggestions of places to visit, and I suggested a visit to Walton's Mountain. Thank you so much for doing so. It was great to see where the inspiration to create the TV show came from. It brought back so many wonderful memories for me, from the 1970's, remembering loved ones now passed, we use to look forward to every episode. Regards from the UK.

I remember gathering around the tv once a week to watch and always gleaned a few life lessons. Grandpa was my favorite. I can't believe i was just reading Hamner's autobiography yesterday and now you are at his childhood home. Also the pilot episode was called "The Homecoming", but it featured an almost full different cast, then it was picked up for TV and recast and then it became The Waltons. There was a movie called Spencer's Mountain starring Henry Fonda that was filmed in the area you are in which was an earlier incarnation of the show but with different characters altogether. See you tomorrow Adam,, from the UK. =)

    FilmingThe
town of Walton's Mountain was built in the rear area of the Warner Bros.
Studios, but the mountain itself was part of the range opposite Warner
    studios in Burbank, California.
The Waltons' house facade was built in the back of the Warner Brothers
lot. After the series concluded, the set was destroyed. For the reunion
shows, a replica Waltons' house facade was built on the Here Come the Brides
set on the Columbia Ranch studio, now part of the Warner Brothers
studios. The Waltons' house is still used as scenery at Warner Brothers.
For example, it served as the Dragonfly Inn on The Gilmore Girls.

Pete Nielsen it looked like it watching the show. My aunt said in the summers her family (Mom et al) lived in a tent, Mom said they were well off because their father could afford to give them nickels to spend at the corner store while other kids didn’t. And they lived in a small city outside of Toronto.

My mom loved the show. She watched it up till the WWII episodes. She had grown up during the depression

Side note: Earl Hamner (before the Waltons) wrote Spencer's Mountain, a movie along the same lines as the Walton's, starring Henry Fonda as the daddy (Clay Spencer) and the guy who played Danno on Hawaii 5-0 (his name eludes me right now) as Clay Boy Spencer. It's quite a good film (again - years before the Waltons on TV). Earl Hamner also wrote a couple of Twilight Zone episodes.

I wish you could have taken your mom, I am sure she would have loved it. It is so nice when you end with those views from the majestic.
