    (Former owner) This is so great to see! I’m also impressed by how doable that looks. Personally I think it needs the partial rebuild and spray, keeping as much original paintwork as you can. I always thought she was pretty straight, lots of originality too, loved those number plate stamps everywhere! White steel wheels with the black paintwork… 🤤 👍👍

      RUPERT! I nearly mentioned you when I focused on the wheels. I'm so pleased to find so many original and straight areas. I guess it helps that she's been stored undercover.

      @@Petrolblog yeah - the whole roof, the windscreen pillars, doors, bonnet and floor do all look great! Defo saved by the barn. I had the inner front wings patch welded for an MOT back along, not beautiful, but looks like still solid. Can’t wait for further updates! 👍

    Good to see progress - a partial paint job might be possible. The "Thanks" tab is like a "tip" service. (Up to £500! Similar to "only fans" whatever that is!) Keep up the good work.

      Up to £500?! Blimey. Yes, a partial paint job would be my preferred option, but I guess I'll know more when the car has been stripped and taken to a bodyshop.

    Paint looks pretty good, body looks straight as well considering the age. The boot floor seams are lovely (mine are shot on my GT5).
    Be interested to see how you do repairs as panels are unobtanium generally speaking, also didn't get to see how the sills were, quite often go along there as well. TBH most parts are incredibly difficult to come by (although i have managed to get quite a few spares over the years!).
    The rear seat release handles do come off as i have no plastics in the back of the GTi turbo, i think they are just friction fit, but it has been a decade since i stripped mine!!

      I *think* I have most parts, although I'm preparing for things to get broken along the way. I was encouraged by the floor, but I suspect there will be some headaches along the way.

    That does look eminently doable! In terms of whether there is a bodyshop I can recommend - the place that did the Volvo (twice) should be able to handle this and do it very well, but I know they are a stupidly long way away from you being in Romsey. Still, can give you their contact if you want to consider them

    • @Petrolblog
      @Petrolblog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, please pass it on. I'd favour somewhere local, but only because it will make it easier me for me to check in on progress. Above all, I want to find somebody who appreciates the AX GT.

      @@Petrolblog Well they had no qualms about the Volvo and they did a beautiful bodywork job on it. Romsey Car Accident Repair is the place

    Regarding the 'flimsy build' comments from some quarters, they miss the point. This car is about 'power to weight' ratios! What is the P/W ratio on this car, spare wheel removed and only the driver and ten litres in the tank...? I think many viewers would be surprised 😸

    • @Petrolblog

      I'm planning a 'Why I bought a Citroën AX GT' video, in which I'll ramble on about the history of the AX and the finer points of the GT.

      @@Petrolblog don't forget to explain that it was the final 'pun' name from Citroen! (DS being phonetic French for goddess, AX being the French pronunciation for the powerful Greek god Ajax) and project Ajax referred to the replacement of the A series vehicles by the A"x" nomenclature of new vehicles. Actually...do...do forget to explain it... because now I see how boring and anoraky I have become....

    I know cameras generally don't make justice to the real state of a paint, but I've always thought and I'll always say, original paint in "decent" shape will always be better than even a good respray. The more originality the better! Each dent, scratch and scuff mark is a story, a part of the car's history

    • @Petrolblog
      @Petrolblog  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. It's never going to be a concours winner, but I'd like it to be presentable and look like it has had a life. Definitely leaning towards getting the rear end sorted but keeping the doors, roof and front wings original. The bonnet is too far gone!

    I Spy an AX being worked on. How about having a chat with the good people at Whiteland Restorations. They've done some great work. Not exactly just down the road though.
