Why do water buffalo hate people? Is it instinctive or from having bad personal experiences?

Great question! i might have been a little dramatic in saying they hate people, but their aggression has certainly earned them a place in the Big Five-a term from the colonial era referring to the five most dangerous African animals to hunt. These animals, particularly this species, are known for being highly unpredictable in their aggression and attacks. It's not that they specifically target humans; rather, their behavior is often perceived as untrustworthy because they don't hesitate to defend their territory from any perceived threat, whether it's humans or other animals.
Experts suggest that their aggressive nature stems from being extremely territorial. They tend to act defensively, attacking first rather than waiting to assess whether something is a real threat. While some speculate that memory plays a role, it’s been nearly 50 years since they were last hunted in Kenya, so it's unlikely that is the main factor. Their behavior seems more driven by instinct and a natural protectiveness of their space.

@@revkarencleveland Thank you for that explanation! I respect their strong will to live and protect their territory! I would never argue with a water buffalo.
