「革命」Strange Addiction | Mep part

I have interrupted my deep state of slumber to bring y’all my yearly spooky post 🖤
What’s so spooky about this part you might ask? How freakishly long it took me to finish it ba dum tss
I take that you’ve all already seen YRS’ Halloween MEP “Strange Addiction”, if not, what the hecc are you waiting around for ya cutie!!!!!
• 「革命」Strange Addiction ...
Now, the theme for this project was an incredibly creative yet very challenging one. The general concept for it was lovesickness & addictions with a touch of medical-based aspects (such as prescription labels, pills and syringes, among many other elements). Look wise we’d be going for a grunge aesthetic with a distorted feel- To achieve exactly that we were so kindly provided with, by our dear studio leaders, a variety of resources to work with to further create this aesthetic! Color palette wise we’d have to keep it mainly b&w with highlight complementary colors for just a few elements and mixed colors for liquids and text!
With all of this in mind I decided then that I’d be using Dark Heaven for my part since 1. This being my debut part as an official YRS member I wanted to, in back, make it a tribute to the parts using the same media showcased in my audition video & 2. It fit the theme for this MEP perfectly (I couldn’t help myself, I swear this beautiful manhwa fits every possible theme aaaaaa). Thus I went with the “double addiction” concept you can see portrayed in it! After having broken-apart, Simon seeks his lover Conor through his drug addiction. Whenever he’s under the influence of said drug he’s able to reunite with Conor again through the means of hallucinations. He’s completely addicted to his lover in a way, so much so that he finds the need to get into a drug addiction to cure the other! I tried demonstrating that by having the hallucinations glow in the same color of the drug Simon would supposably be taking, as well as having him “drowning” in his addictions by the end of my part. I also went ahead and named the drug in the medical labels as “Dark Heaven” cause, you know, Conor is Simon’s Dark Heaven aka addiction.. yes, I’m that cheesy :’)) Regarding the designs aesthetics’ wise it was all heavily inspired on the manhwa as well as on all the other MEP participants 🖤🤍 Also, if you can spot all the easter eggs I hid in my part you the real M.V.P wink
Right about now you might be asking yourself why the hecc did it take me so long to finish my part. It does seem as though I had it all figured out and planned ahead of time, right? Well, that’s life getting in the way for you I guess. Starting this part the first thing getting in my way was uni with finals (and just generally completing my last semester). My laptop then kept crashing down constantly for a few weeks- I’m talking files gone missing in the process and me having to re-start everything all over again. Then came along the final stage of struggles: Self-doubt. I hadn’t been doing all that great mentally wise, but that in combination with the time crunch I was trying to fight really did it for me and pushed me over the line of what would be considered an unhealthy mindset. I now felt so incredibly self-conscious of my editing. The hype of getting to share the spotlight with such talented and creative individuals was fading away, what was once a dream come true was slowly yet surely turning into my worst nightmare. I was having so much fun in the beginning with all the planning, but that vision had now been shattered into a million tiny pieces. I was so so scared I wouldn’t be able to meet everyone's exceptions. Most importantly, proving myself I truly deserved all of these wonderful opportunities I had been oh so blessed with. I had never been this conscious of my editing skills before in my whole life. I wanted to show how grateful I was so unbelievably bad, only to end up getting completely in my own head about it. That was until two very special girls came to my recue!

I couldn’t have possibly done it without their help, they helped a whole lot with keeping me motivated by boasting my serotonin levels hehe. They make me the happiest gal ever I swear! Thanks to these two precious lil cuties I was able to finally pick a concept I was happy with which then led to the final outcome! They made me realize I had absolutely nothing to worry about. This dork comes with a whole lot of love to share as well as an editing style packed full with texture and/or patterns as well as gradients and bright colors, I shouldn’t have to change that at all! I’m not the one that must be bending my way to fit into a mold, I shall be the one to breakout the mold to make it fit my way! We’re all one-of-kind and incredibly unique in our own special way, why wide it 🌼

Very glorious ending for such a great Mep. The concept of this is very good, and I love how you realized it. The scene of the boy disappearing into colors and all the details🤍 (the prescription label though?? I'M IN AWE)

Caty, Caty, Caty.... Where to begin?! First off, let me tell you how CRAZILY CREATIVE of an individual you are. Seriously, you always come up with such creative, out-standing and out of everyone's leagues ideas. Share this brain right now or I'm gonna fight 😠 -jkjk-
Honestly, I feel you for the description. But Caty, you are one of the best editors I've ever encountered AND I'VE BEEN EDITING SINCE 2013 SO I'VE SEEN QUITE A LOT OF STUFF :') You are one of a kind, crazily talented and a motivation for so many of us. Not only by your constant cheerful words and sweet attitude but also by your editing skills and the way you always come up with the best ideas!! Seriously Caty, you're the literal best!!!! Your part was so much detailed like THAT WHOLE ASS COUCH SCENE HELLO?! GOOD MORNING?!?! But also all of those details and little easter eggs makes the part so perfect!! I hope you're proud of this part because GOD DAMN IT THERE'S A LOT TO BE PROUD IN IT HEHE ❤️

this was my favorite part in the mep! i feel like i always have a soft spot for your editing. the aesthetics and flow is amazing and fits the song perfectly and you killed everything about this! the scenes are so unique and stunning i had to pause so many times to fully take them in
