    I am visiting this video again as I advance my ukulele skills, and amid an ever troubling world, it is delightful to watch, listen and learn from Mr. Barry Maz here. I've said it before but I'll say it again, thank you Mr. Maz, for this video and your endless effort to review and educate people about ukuleles and music via the internet and TH-cam. You are truly a king among men, sir. Cheers, from across the pond in rural Ontario, Canada. In my household, you are more a celebrity name than the richest actors of Hollywood. You may not be an exuberantly wealthy man in the monetary sense (you may be, I know not), but I consider you exuberantly wealthy in spirit, and you certainly lift mine spirits here at home. Thank you again, good sir. I retire this message to another few fingers of scotch, and some plunking on one of many cheap but enjoyable ukuleles.

    I never realized that was Creep. I really like that arrangement.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's not the regular key, but I always played it like that on stage as it suited my voice register more. Also helps with that run up the A string

      Me neither. I was noodling around on my uke and started playing the run thinking it was from the GaU original.

      Was it hard when you originally started to try singing while playing? I find them to be (thus far), like oil and water. I instantly forget the one when I do the other. I instantly lose the rhythm (or never had it to begin with haha).

      Charlie Skinner ok here’s the question I posted: Ok ok I got the strummed tune down but I’m having a tiny bit of trouble with the Creep song. I sure hope you can help because I’m going nuts over something so simple. Anyway: I got the “c” part just fine but when we get to the E7,F and Fm I cannot tell what strings you’re picking? Or do we just strum those last 3chords? Thankyou for helping!

    Thanks for this.
    In my Uke club, we seem to play quite a few songs with a F major to F minor progression. Our lead Uke is a professional music teacher and he suggests for beginners to put the pinky down on the 3rd fret just prior to the chord change and this allows you to change to the minor chord more easily as you only have to concentrate on the index and middle finger change. I've found it works really well.

      Thanks man. That's appreciated. I should probably do more playing and singing. Actually it's not my comfort area purely as regards tuition - I would rather stick to what I do and defer to better teachers than I when it comes to lessons (if you can call this a lesson). Used to be totally in my comfort zone in terms of playing and singing and in fact there are plenty of me on TH-cam hidden somewhere in a different channel with my old band. Used to love recording our gigs. Just not done it for a long while and stopped as my toddler daughter was growing and I needed to give her more time at weekends... Never fazes me singing - just recognise that now my pipes are a bit rusty!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They came about more about the sound of them and them being relatively simple . I wanted a simple catchy strum pattern and a simple catchy fingerpicked run that used some higher notes. Yes, the strum is a VERY old song! But neither were intended to be complex - I don't see the value in a ukulele review being someone playing something intensely difficult that 99% of viewers will NEVER want to play..
      Thanks Davide!

    I love your videos, your reviews, your style of telling, you English (yes, even for improving listening, thanks!) and also I have enjoyed a lot learning these two melodies (newbie in the ukelele world). In the reviews, for the strumming part you end the song with some notes not included in this tutorial, they are using your middle finger covering the whole second fret, but no matter how I try not possible to get the same notes. Don´t sure if you cover completely the 2nd fret or not and what are you freeing partially when lifting the finger quickly... :( Just in case this part is explained elsewhere.... thanks a ton again for your help. Thanks! I just saw on a video where you had mentioned the titles and was going to look for chords soon. Great singing- cute how you were kind of embarrassed at the end. I have been watching your videos because I want to find a good acoustic-electric to use for playing at senior centers and the like. I have been playing about a year and have a concert Córdoba 15cm that I like quiet well- should I just have a pick up put in that? I checked at one local music shop and it was going to be at least $100 to install one. I'd be willing to spend $200-250 for a new one. Any recommendations you can point me to?

      I've not recorded me performing for some time. Used to play regularly in a popular ukulele outfit, but you would never tell would you? lol..
      Regarding a uke - I always recommend putting a pickup in an acoustic rather than getting the pre-installed ones - just always better quality. And yes, they can be expensive to fit, but that's another reason to highlight why the pre-installed ones are never great - they are usually dirt cheap and rather rubbish!

    Thank you for this very much Mr. Maz (I believe that your name is Barry Maz, or I've been stringing my strings too tight, lol). Cheers!

    Hi Baz, sorry this isn’t related to this video, are the Lanikai LU21 series ukulele models made with other brand badges?
    Thanks, Steve. Oh,.. and keep up the the brilliant reviews. ;0)

      Not entirely sure, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised - there are FAR fewer ukulele production lines in China than there are uke brands - loads of them share builders and lots are rebadges

    Mine are Grover's too , but my problem is ( sorry for annoying you ) The GOTON tuners on the Ukulele site has 15 different types. I was told the smaller ones , but wanted to narrow it down/ & not make a mistake.+need to get a luthier to fit them x

      The only model numbers I see in UK shops have an extra code letter which denotes the colour. So 4B is black 4W is white. They make a 6 series which has identical dimensions. It's a standard depth headstock so if you see anything denoting 'long' you can avoid that.
      I'd say these - these are pretty standard 4's www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/grover-sta-tite-friction-ukulele-pegs-4b-set-of-4-black/

    Ok ok I got the strummed down but I’m having a tiny bit of trouble with the Creep song. I sure hope you can help because I’m going nuts over something so simple. Anyway: I got the “c” part just fine but when we get to the E7,F and Fm I cannot tell what strings you’re picking? Or do we just strum those last 3chords? Thankyou for helping!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I kind of play it a number of ways - the fingers just roll almost randomly across all four strings, hammering on the A string

    • @jomoland
      @jomoland 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GotAUkulele so u hammer the A on E7,F and Fm?

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kind of, and I do and i don't - I dont think I ever tabbed it precisely is it does differ from time to time! Sorry for not being helfpful!
