    I remember as an undergrad in 3rd year, I found the book by Hitler's sister-in-law in the University library. I mentioned the story about AH living in Liverpool for a few months to my Professor who said, "You can't believe everything you read." Thanks Mark for doing a video on something I had locked away in my memory for 25 years! A nice little personal flashback to my youth.

      @@scoe5908 "Since the English are a Germanic people". The significant majority of people in England, are, and never have been "Germanic". It's very strange how mainstream terminology is constructed in a way that leads everyone to think that the English are foreign to the British Isles. The majority of that gene pool has been there for as long as other residents of the British Isles. I have the sneaking suspicion that the Victorians are to blame for these kind of bullshit that still lasts to this day - it definitely has the "taste" of Victorian bullshit

    • @historyandhorseplaying7374
      @historyandhorseplaying7374 3 ปีที่แล้ว +63

      @@tommeakin1732 Now that’s not true, and we know it now that things like AncestryDNA are cheap and accessible to all. Some additions to the English gene pool are very recent- such as from the Vikings who colonized northern England and parts of Ireland and Scotland etc up to the relatively recent 11th century. You can find Viking DNA in some English people and not others. Other recent additions would be the Saxon heritage versus the Angles... and so on. And Norman DNA versus Saxon and Angle, etc etc. Yes, by now this DNA is intertwined in most peoples’ genetics, but the fact remains that these “injections” of genetic material are relatively recent, in comparison to say the Celts or Picts etc.

      Just to add to this, Kanso Yoshida (1895-1973, known to his friends as Paddy Murphy) was a Japanese-born British seaman who was related to Japanese Emperor Hirohito by marriage. He was a resident of England for most of his life, specifically in Liverpool from 1938. He apparently went by the name Paddy as his friends and colleagues had difficulty pronouncing his name. Yes, this would have been Ernest Hanfstaengl. Supposedly, he was having dinner with Churchill and Winston expressed an interest in meeting Adolf. Hitler begged off claiming he had a meeting to attend, but Hanfstaengl later went out again and saw Hitler descending the stairs. Once again, he asked Hitler and again Hitler begged off claiming he was too tired and unprepared to meet Churchill and didn't want to make a weak impression on him.
