"Supporting" is only temporary. Customers come back for quality and prices that is worth their hard-earned money. Buying from a local producer should always be a win-win for both the customers and producers.

I grew up in Seattle, and I never realized how lucky I was to have such a large farmer's market in my city. I know it's mostly famous for the "flying fish" mongers and the gum wall but, they sell everything there. From fruit, flowers and vegetables, to artisanal roasted almonds and pottery.

Dear Pete, I hadn't been on an excursion in a long time and was feeling shut in lately so, I said to myself what would be a fun change of pace and within a reasonable distance of Western Mass and I thought of you and Just A Few Acres Farm. I have been watching you regularly for about two years and I love your informative and engaging style, your wisdom and incredible mechanics' skills. I just got home this Sunday afternoon to find your new video from yesterday's market, and while I didn't make the cut 😉, this will always be on my favorites list. I just wanted to mention that though the long line of cars coming in moved slowly, it kept moving and people were always leaving, so spaces opened, up as early shoppers left. Inside the market is just as you described and more. This video was such a huge surprise and the perfect finish to my weekend at the Ithaca Farmer's Market. Thanks Pete.

I love your Farmers Market; I miss having one around as I used to frequent the ones in previous places I lived. It for me also embodies a sense of community, even if many of the customers are transitory, just a fun place to spend a couple of hours, with the benefit of very fresh, organic food. And it's nice to be able to speak to the person who produced all that goodness. Have a great day.

Thanks for the peek of the farmers’ market. I always enjoy it when you share your Saturdays at the market. We have a “traveling” farmers’ market that sets up on different on rotating days in several of our local, small cities. If you missed your favorite on Wednesday afternoon, you can find them on Sunday morning in the neighboring town.

Pete, I’m so happy that your day at the farmer’s market was so successful! You said in the last video that directly selling the food you produced to the people who would eat it is the most fulfilling part of being a small farmer, so you must have had a fantastic day.

Hello Pete. I finally got to watch your video just minutes after it was downloaded. I always enjoy your videos of the farmer's market, lots of neat things to see. We do have some farmers markets in our area, they are not quite as big as yours and we also have folks that set up little booths at selective stores parking lots. Probably a half a dozen or more within a 15 miles radius of my home. They are real fun to go to, we just don't make the time like we should. Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing, have a wonderful Sunday and week ahead.

Dan, really like you comment, we are limited to one or two farmers markets spread about 40 mile apart. In south Texas we have huge flea markets. You do have one or two sellers but not local produce. It's mostly imported stuff from Mexico they get from local warehouses. Have a nice day Dan.

This has to be one of the most interesting and even exciting videos I've seen you do yet. I don't know why, but somehow the way you showed the lifeblood of the farmers market lit a fire under me to find out more about my own local area and I want to find out if there are farmers markets around my own neck of the woods. I live in the heart of Iowa and am surrounded as far as you can see by farmland so there MUST be farmers markets around here somewhere. It just hit me square between the eyes, the things you said, about the real value of having a farmers' market and making it a part of your life and how important it is to do so. Oh my goodness, you are so right!! I loved the way you took your camera and walked around the market showing all the many different kinds of vegetables and pointed them out and named them one by one, that was so incredibly interesting and informative, thank you for doing that one simple thing. I had no idea there were so many different varieties of tomatoes, I had no idea what some of those vegetables were called. I enjoyed that so much! It just never really sunk in, the true value of having this in a community and what a great resource it is for all people everywhere. I loved everything about this video, I want to hear more. I want to support this sort of thing. I want to join in and be a part of this wonderful basic need. Pete, you are such a blessing. I love what you do and the way you do it. Thank you!

Great point I think we have become so big for our own britches we’ve lost our direction. I can visualize vast Iowa farm land with endless rows of corn or wheat or even cows and pigs that you really can’t directly buy it’s gotten so commercial big business if you will, alot of mouths to feed. Looking back 50 or 100 years ago life seamed so simple now I’m not so sure the way we’re headed is the way to go.

The closest farmers market to me is in a state Park and is primarily crafts. I don't think the farmers are being invited so I've asked park staff to reach out to them. They don't think they would come. I advised them otherwise and got them some farmers numbers to try and help, told them people are looking for better quality than Walmart. Thanks for your videos Pete. Have a good day!

Pete we have lots of such markets here in the UK. Some newly formed but many going back hundreds of years. Thing is a good market that is properly regulated always has a certain buzz about it. Great video as usual that gives atmosphere and fleshes out the bones of where you live for your UK cousins. Talking of which my late cousin lived in Albany NY and knew your area well. Oh yes why not organise some hangers for your signage to save time at the end of the day// Cheers and god bless from the UK.

When there is a premium price based on the public trust….the rules are required.
Too many unscrupulous, desperate and greedy people will just soon engineer a shortcut to violate the public trust through a path of least resistance: no rules.
Shortcut = saying you grew it and relying only on trust of acceptance.
Rules = saying you grew it and relying on trust ….But also verifying.

From my experience with Farmer's Markets you are absolutely right that is special place. I've a lot of reselling in Southeastern Indiana. I think some of it is because people just don't know any better, or maybe they don't want to. I believe you, inherently, get a different kind of vender and therefore a different kind of buyer. Everything looks first rate to me.

The artists and craftspeople are of such interest. In an earlier part of my life, I used to sell my handmade soaps, greeting cards and stuffed animals at a very small Amish market close to where I lived at the time in Pennsylvania. PETE, Hello, looks like you had a GREAT SATURDAY, NO, NO SUCH THING WHERE I live, green markets, visit towns different days, I HAVE NEVER been to the one in my town, it’s MONDAYS, the NEXT VILLAGE USED TO BE THURSDAYS I WENT FOR YEARS, THEN IT DISSAPEARED, the town said merchants bitched about taking up parking spaces& loosing business, so it went to town hall parking lot, venders had zero customers , so they lost venders like no tomorrow, so it’s at the ORIGINAL PLACE, BUT TUESDAYS, I met someone from town, and asked how things was,
Sorry I asked, but YOU, CREATED YOUR OWN LOSS OF VENDERS, THROUGH YOURNOWN STUPIDITY, SORRY, BUT WE NOW REALISED WHAT HAPPENED, , NOW NO CHEESE PICKLES HONEY, NOW I DO NOT EVEN BOTHER STOPPING BY , HOURS WERE 8-2PM we were so sorry she said, . I said yes THE TOWN KILLED IT . , GOD BLESS YOU ALL, 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Pete!!!!!
(DON'T READ THIS MESSAGE IF YOU AREN'T UP FOR ANOTHER COMMENT ASKING FOR SOMETHING YOU SHOULD....... OR SHOULDN'T DO.........but if you are, please, keep reading......)
Lord knows you must have your (and Hilarie's) hands full getting ready for Saturday morning markets....but I (and maybe other viewers) would like to see what that is like.....such as....
    1) Do you starting loading on Friday nights and keep the freezers plugged in until you go?
    2) or.....Do you get up super early (4:00-5:00 ish) and load out everything yourself in the dark wee hours?
    3) or....Do you call out the troops (a la, chicken moving days) to help load up?
    4) and......who helps you unload and set up when you arrive at the market?
    Just wonderin'
    Keep up the "Good Work"
    Rich from PA

We have a farmers market in Plattsburgh, and many smaller villages have them also. The one in Plattsburgh is decent but they have moved it to different places as the city is moving things and building new infrastructure. I think there are a few places that the farmers market could have a permanent home, like the one you sell at, as it gets confusing every couple of years. Keep the great videos coming Pete

Wish we were nearer. A bit of a trip from the Bronx. What a great way to move products.

Your steak prices are on par with our local supermarkets prices for Angus beef, but your chicken prices are very high comparatively speaking. However yours is pasture-raised (organic too??) and the supermarket's is not. I get family packs of chicken legs that weigh about 5-6 lbs for $.99 a pound. I can't afford the meat at the prices you charge, Pete. But if I could afford it I gladly would because no doubt it's better quality and better for our health.

How can you sell your meat direct to consumers? Do you have to provide proof of an USDA stamp from an approved butcher?

Hi. I was wondering, how much do you sell your eggs for? I buy from a local farm here in Oregon and pay $6 doz or $3.50 for 1/2 doz of extra large eggs. Love going out to their farmstore and buying eggs and beef. Thanks for the great videos. 🙋🏻‍♀️☺️

Our markets are trash. 2 local farmers interspersed with trinkets from China. "Home Grown Tomatoes" when the booth has the big brown boxes that they bought from wholesalers. We don't even bother going anymore.
The company I retired from had over 2500 varieties of celery.

grass fed rib eye steak at $16 USD per pound which works out to to roughly $21AUD per pound and when converted into kilo’s it works out to about $47 AUD per kg which is still cheaper than what I buy it for at a butcher here in Melbourne Australia……….
