Pls try Lau Pa Sat near China town for food vlogging. Its the largest hawker centre here with multiple cuisines at the same place. Also do try out Singapore Laksa. You will like it.
East Coast Lagoon Food Village is another hawker centre. Opening scenes of Varnapakitu movie was shot in that area East Coast Park (Mohanlal, Meena, MG Soman& Janardhanan).

Almost everyone prefers to mind their own business and ignore the strangers and avoid interactions with them..plus they hate foreigners...xenophobia is rampant there...there is a common sentiment that foreigners are coming and taking away their jobs...so if you come across some friendly strangers, you are lucky. :)
