0:14 So, I can speak English like this right now, but back then I couldn't speak English.
0:19 This is an audio of me trying to speak English 7 years ago.
0:43 So as you can see I was using a lot of “umms” and “so yeahs” and the words I wanted to say weren't really coming out and I couldn't talk smoothly.
0:52 But with the method I'm about to show you.
0:54 I was able to improve my English to this level even while living in Japan.
0:58 So today I'll be showing you how I did it.
1:01 But before that I'll share a little bit about my experience studying English.★
1:05 So I was born in Japan and raised by Japanese parents but suddenly when I was little my parents had to move to Canada and I was not happy at all having to leave Japan.
1:16 But my parents were like “We'll buy you シルバニアファミリーの森の木の学校 so you have to come with us”.
1:22 So right away I was like “yes sir I'm definitely going” and that's how my life in Canada started.
1:28 So my parents thought that you could buy シルバニアファミリー in Canada.
1:32 But of course they don't sell them over there, so they couldn't buy me it like they promised.
1:37 I still remember how hard I was crying from the shock, and even the employees at the toy store were like really worried.
1:45 My family calls this incident, “The tears of Walmart”.
1:48 Now hearing this, you guys may think, of course, you can speak fluent English because you lived abroad.
1:55 But actually, I haven't been able to use my experience living in Canada in good use
2:00 Once I came back to Japan no one around me could speak English anymore.
2:04 So being in a place where I didn't speak any English, I forgot it just like that.
2:09 The only people around me were ヤンキー who couldn't even speak proper Japanese to begin with.
2:14 After coming back to Japan I didn't study abroad anywhere
2:18 and without an environment to speak English by the time I took that video 7 years ago my English as so broken that I got lower test grades on English than on Japanese.
2:29 So my mother saw the situation and so she wanted me to go to an English school.
2:33 But I was a rebellious kid back then
2:35 so I begged her to use the money to buy me a motorcycle instead of putting me in an English school.
2:41 So when I actually wanted to learn English and I asked my mother to put me in an English school.
2:47 She said, “You're the one that wanted to buy a motorcycle, Figure it out yourself”.
2:51 So I had to figure out a way to learn English by myself.
2:55 So, the method I'm going to show you guys today is a method I use to teach myself English when I was in high school.
3:01 It's a method where you can learn English without having to go study abroad anywhere and how I was able to really grow my English skills even while living in Japan.
3:10 Honestly I don't think it really matters if you lived abroad or studied abroad.
3:14 Being able to think in English and talk fluently is everyone's goal in the end right.
3:20 So there are people who go abroad and are not able to speak English but there are also people who are able to speak fluent English while living in Japan.
3:28 So I think the big difference between these people is whether they are studying English with the right method or not.
3:35 So I usually teach English to people and these people are mainly working adults and I call them ヒナキッズ
3:41 and there are students that have been able to pick up fluent English even while living in Japan.
3:46 So even if you're in Japan, and you don't have any money to study abroad,
3:51 as long as you're studying English with the right method you can become fluent.
3:55 And… This method I'm about to teach you guys today is something anyone can do as long as they commit.
4:01 So I'm hoping that this video will help you guys.★
4:03 So, when I wanted to relearn English again I thought about what makes a person fluent in English.
4:09 Someone that's fluent in English is a person that's able to speak and hear without having to translate from Japanese to English.
4:17 So there's one thing that I really focused on and that was being able to speak and listen to English without having to translate from Japanese.
4:26 I practiced being able to understand English phrases in English and being able to speak and listen in English.
4:33 In other words, I practice building an English brain.
4:36 So now, I'm going to explain everything I did to build this English brain.
4:41 So there are 3 important elements that I think really help me build an English brain. 1.Vocabulary 2. Pronunciation 3.Outputting 24/7
4:53 I'm going to talk about vocabulary first whether you like vocabulary or not in order to speak English, you're going to have to study it no matter what.
5:01 For vocabulary books. I personally used 金スレ because I was studying for the TOEIC and I also used 英単語ターゲット1900 and… シス単!!
5:13 All of these materials are great and I recommend them.
5:16 But honestly I don't think it really matters what vocabulary book you use.
5:20 I think it's more about how you approach trying to remember these English words.
5:24 I use these 3 steps when studying vocabulary. 1.Remember the words with an image. 2. Learn how to use the words in context. 3.Making my own sentences.
5:36 When I switch to remembering words as an image it was a LIFECHANGER!
5:41 In school, I think we're taught vocabulary like this.
5:51 But the problem here is if you try to remember English words with Japanese translations
5:56 you're always going to be translating from Japanese to English in your head.
6:00 Which takes way too much time when you're trying to listen or speak English.
6:04 Before I had tried to remember vocabulary by writing the word and Japanese translation
6:10 and I also tried methods like writing them down on sticky notes and putting them all over my room.
6:15 But both of these weren't the best way to study vocabulary.
6:19 I thought back to how I learned vocabulary when living in Canada, and I remembered in preschool my teacher taught us words like. This this is an apple. This is a motorcycle. This is a cigarette. This is a punk.
6:34 So just like that I was taught vocabulary by image.
6:37 For example, if you're asked, what does it mean to think?
6:41 I think you would be like, think means think.
6:46 And this happens because you just learn the word as it is in Japanese.
6:51 So I want you to try remembering English vocabulary with this similar sense.
6:56 And the best way to do this and build an English brain is to remember English words as an image.
7:01 Now if there is a word that is hard to imagine like “painful”.
7:05 You should look up on the internet for images.
7:07 So go on Google Images and type in the word so “painful” right and then type in “definition”.
7:15 And then you can find an image. Oh, look look at these guys.
7:19 These guys are really feeling pain. I'm sure they got into a fight.
7:23 She got punched in the head. He got punched in the ear. And he got punched in the stomach. Man these poor kids.
7:38 Of course, I needed to know what the words mean in Japanese first.
7:42 But after understanding what the word means, I tried to remember them as an image as much as possible.
7:48 So my vocabulary book looked like this.
7:50 I would draw pictures beside the words and try as much as possible not to use the Japanese translations.
7:57 Now STEP2 / Next you should learn how the vocabulary is used in context.
8:01 What I did was look at the example sentence in the vocabulary book, and try to imagine the example sentence as well.
8:09 So here we have the word “impulse” and this is from シス単. Impulse means 「衝動」. And we have this example sentence “Feel an Impulse to shout”. Which means 「叫びたい衝動を感じる」.
8:21 So try and imagine the situation of the sentence in your head as you pronounce the sentence.
8:27 This is literally me when I found out that they didn't sell シルバニアファミリー in Canada.
8:35 STEP3 / Using the example sentence in your vocabulary book.
8:39 I want you to try and make your own sentence.
8:41 So, for example, we just learned the example sentence “Feel an impulse to shout” and we can see that the word impulse can be used with the word two as impulse to.
8:52 So this means that you can make your own sentences like… “Feel an impulse to shoplift”. “Feel an impulse to punch”. “Feel an impulse to steal a motorcycle”.
9:01The last sentence is a true story about my senpai who was literally addicted to stealing motorcycles.
9:08 He always had an ll** to steal motorcycles.
9:11 So when he was caught by the police he ended up going to juvenile until he was 20.
9:16 Anyways, I recommend that you relate your personal life and the things closest to you when doing this.
9:22 So to sum up the vocabulary section.
9:24 STEP 1 / First try : Remembering English words as an image and try your best not to use Japanese translations.
9:30 STEP 2 / Then two : Learn how the word is used in a sentence.
9:33 STEP 3 / And then step three : Try making your own sentences using that word.
9:37 So the next important thing to be able to speak English fluently is "pronunciation".
9:42 It is so so important to be able to pronounce like a native speaker.
9:47 And this is because there is this one teaching that I always teach my students.
9:52 And that is if you can pronounce English like a native speaker, then you can hear the native pronunciations.
9:59 So most of my students have only lived in Japan and they're very skeptical because they don't believe that they can be able to speak English like a native speaker.
10:08 But I promise you, as long as you have the right approach it's definitely possible.
10:13 The method I used and have seen my students really improve the pronunciation is called modeling.
10:19 So modeling is a simple 2-step method.
10:22 First listen to the native speaker, and then second try mimicking the native pronunciations as much as possible right after.
10:30 So I'll show you an example. ～We sat down face to face.
10:42 So, even if it's one word at a time, I want you to carefully listen to the pronunciation of the native speaker.
10:49 By repeating this over and over, you should try to bring your pronunciation as close to the native speaker as possible.
10:56 The closer your pronunciation is to the native speaker pronunciation, the more you will be able to hear native English.
11:03 I really highly recommend this because it allows you to carefully listen and analyze the native pronunciations.
11:09 I know there are a lot of books on 発音記号, but I don't think you really need to use them.
11:14 All I did was practice modeling using English phrase videos on TH-cam.
11:18 I would choose a phrase and just keep on repeating over and over until my pronunciation was close to a natives.
11:25 For those advanced, I recommend you practice modeling using TED talk videos.
11:30 So I lived abroad right so it was much easier for me to pick up the pronunciations.
11:35 But I have students who've never studied abroad.
11:38 But they've been able to pick up native pronunciations using the modeling method.
11:42 One student who practiced this method every day for 3 months saw drastic changes in their pronunciation and listening skills.
11:50 It can just be 5minutes 10minutes every day.
11:52 As long as you continue, then you'll be able to pick up the pronunciation of a native speaker.
11:57 The sounds of English and the Japanese are so different and we use different muscles.
12:02 So it's definitely going to be hard to adjust first.
12:05 But if you carefully work on listening to the native sounds and keep on repeating over and over then it's definitely possible.
12:13 If you really struggle pronouncing a word, go on Google and type in the word that you are finding hard to pronounce. So in this case “motorcycle” and then type in “pronounciation”.
12:24 Then this comes up.
12:25 And if you click here it gives you the perfect pronounce.
12:31 And if you click here and play again. It gives you a slower pronunciation.
12:38 And then you can also change from American pronunciation to British pronunciation which is pretty neat.
12:44 And this part is my favorite and it's so good but it also judges your pronunciation over here. So click here. “Motorcycle”
12:57 So I got a good score here but but if I pronounce it in Japanese English. モーターサイクル
13:08 See, it it tells me that I did it wrong.
13:11 And then you can also hear what you pronounced over here.
13:25 Like this, you can compare the correct pronunciation to what you pronounced and it shows you perfectly, what you need to do to improve your pronunciation.
13:34 There are so many amazing free resources out there so use them.
13:39 But can I just say one thing don't use the shadowing method!
13:43 I absolutely HATE HATE HATE the shadowing method and people who recommend it.
13:48 So shadowing is basically like a learning method where you follow the example sentence a little behind, almost like a shadow.
13:55 I don't recommend it because you can't analyze the native pronunciation properly as you become too focused on staying at the native speaker's pace.
14:03 For pronunciations, I want you to take lots of time analyzing the native sounds and improving your pronunciations.
14:11 If you do this, not only will your speaking level change drastically but also your listing skills too.
14:17 I made of videos that you can watch on my LINE account where we break down and analyze the English pronunciations and practice the modeling method together with daily English phrases.
14:28 So please check it out if you're interested!!
14:31 Finally, the last thing I recommend you do in order to speak fluent English is to keep on outputting.
14:36 I want you to try and narrate your actions, what you see, and your daily thoughts everything in English.
14:41 I know this sounds really challenging at first but just start with baby steps.
14:45 So with the words and pronunciations that you inputed. I want you to start using them in your daily life.
14:51 You can start by just naming the things around you. So I see a McDonald's. Blue Sky. Clouds. A lot of cars.
15:04 Then you should gradually start making your own sentences like. The sky is very blue. It's very beautiful. The clouds are very clear today.
15:15 So I had an impulse to buy McDonald's pic this morning. So I bought it.★ Very good!
15:29 I found my favorite place. It's closed… No…! So it was closed so I'm going to head back home.
15:41 So just like the clips you saw, narrate your life in English.
15:44 And as you're doing this make sure that you are talking aloud to yourself with the right pronunciation.
15:49 I know it might be embarrassing talking aloud outside at first. But don't worry!
15:55 And if you're in a public place, at least mou the words!
15:59 So, like this, I want you to try outputting the vocabulary and pronunciations you learned on a daily basis.
16:04 The reason why I don't recommend you study so much grammar using grammar books is because I think what really matters is being able to communicate what you really want to say.
16:13 But honestly the fastest way to be able to speak English is to stop caring so much about these grammar rules.
16:19 You can just say, "I have a friend. He likes to steal bikes."
16:23 Like you're saying the same thing, and I think that's all that really matters in the end.
16:27 Of course it's better if you know Middle School level grammar to start off with, but when you're first studying to try to speak English it gets boring if you care so much about grammar rules.
16:37 What matters is you being able to communicate yourself so try forming sentences as much as you can.
16:44 This is better for your motivation in my opinion, and you can always learn grammar later.
16:48 There are so many ways to say the same sentences in English, and there are no rules that you need to follow 100%.
16:55 What really matters is people being able to understand what you're saying in English.
16:59 So just keep on outputting 24/7 while keeping this in mind.
17:03 So in summary, the 3 things I focused on to be able to speak English is : Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and Outputting everything you learned 24/7.
17:12 By focusing on these 3 things, it's totally possible to be able to speak English even while living in Japan.
17:19 And my goal is to help people's English journey through videos.

私はネイティブがなんて言ってるかは、ほぼ理解できるけど、自分が話そうと思っても、言葉が出てこない。何をしたら良いかわからなくなってきました。まあ、勉強という勉強はしてなくて、毎日英語を外国人と話してるどけですが、、、

イメージで覚えるやり方いいですね！自分は絵心無いから絵を描くとよけわからんようになるので、googleのimageってタブに切り替えて単語を入れ、そこに表示される写真、イメージをシバきまくってます

動画のタイトルに独学で英語ペラペラになれたって書いてるけど、他の方がおっしゃってるようにカナダに居たこと英語環境に居たことが大きなアドバンテージ。僕にとっては独学とは言えないかな。
もちろん沢山の勉強、努力をされたことでしょう。
現に、7年前の音声はボキャブラリーは別としてネイティブの方かペラペラの方がただ言葉につまっただけにしか聞こえませんでした。
英語や多言語のこれから勉強を始める方、もう始めてる方、海外在住、留学中のみなさん頑張ってください！

英語喋れるのを「カナダに居たから〜」っていう人居るけど、私はフィリピン生まれでフィリピンに住んでた時期もあり母がフィリピン人だけど、勉強しなかったから全くタガログ語喋れないです。幾つかの単語が分かる程度で文法も何も分からない。
幼少期に一時的に居ただけじゃ、特にアドバンテージにはならない。結局この人の努力だと思います。

オレンジの意味だけは知っている単語があったり、ある動画ではとりあえずオレンジの意味だけ復習しようっていうのもあって、最近単語の暗記に行き詰ってます😭

その場合は、ネットやchat gptを使って即調べます！
そしてさらに、その文章の構造を使って他の言葉を入れてみたり、ちゃんとフレーズが定着するように、ただ調べるだけで終わらないように工夫するのがおすすめです！
フォニックスについてはどう考えてますか？

特に発音分析にはめちゃ使えそう。
私自身は洋楽完コピしたくて練習してたら、なんか知らんがソコソコ話せるようになってた、て感じで。
ヒナさんの動画を見て、なるほどこの「イメージ記憶」と「モデリング」をやってたからか！と腑に落ちました。
でも最近になってフォニックスを知って。
「ちょ！！こんな良いものがあるなら、先に教えといてよー！！！」てずっこけたんで…。
確かに、シャドーイングを学校の教員がおすすめしてたからやってみたけど、ついていくのに必死で途中からついていけなかった

同じように話せるから聴き取れるという原理はわかるんだけど、
どうしても同じような発音にならないんだよなあ
出来ている人には逆にそれが不思議なんだろうけど
例えばフレンズに出てくる会話を真似るというよな段階でどうしようもなく難しい
女性の声は音域が異なるし、男性の声でもうまくいかない
結局出来る人には出来るって思えてしまう😩
フレンズはスピードが速いので、だいぶ難易度が高いです！
まずはゆっくり短めのフレーズから初めてみてはいかがでしょうか？
それでもカナダにいたのでリスニングと発音はある程度できたのかな？

また、よく単語を覚えるには回転率が大切でとにかく量をこなすことが大切と聞くのですが、絵を書き込むとそれだけですごく時間がかかってしまうと思うのですが、それでもいいのでしょうか…？
おっしゃる通りすべての単語に絵を書き込んでしまうと時間がかかってしまうので、イラストを書き込むのはどうしても覚えにくい単語です！
しかし英単語は極力イメージで覚えるように意識した方がいいです！私の場合は量をこなしすぎても翌日忘れてしまうので、質の方を大事にしていました！
たまに外人現場あってん。アイツら英語わからんと思って絶対に悪口いってるねん。(多分言ってない。)
だから突然驚かしてやりたくて。

単語は一日どれくらいのペースでやられたんでしょうか。おそらく最初は相当時間がかかると思いました
単語を勉強するときは量より質を意識していたので、100単語を1日に詰め込jめて翌日忘れちゃうより、多くて1日30単語を当日の復習マストで進めていました！

シャドーイングとは聞こえてきた英語の音声を0.5秒程度遅れて、シャドー（影）のように後を追いながら、声に出すトレーニングです！
モデリングは英語の音声を一度聞いて、その直後に真似て声に出すトレーニングです。英語の音声と自分の声は被せません。
モデリングの方が、ネイティブの発音をより正確に聞き取って練習することができるのでオススメです！

英語と日本語を織り交ぜてTH-camの字幕を作っていますが、英語学習の基本はno Japaneseです。日本語と英語を一緒に流したら変な癖がつきます。日本語なら日本語のみで解説された方がいい。

内容自体はめっちゃ勉強になるけど翻訳関西弁なのが鬱陶しい
最近勘違いしてる人多いけど「めっちゃ」って関西弁ですよ。
TOEIC満点ごときじゃ今もうアピール出来なくなってきましたよねぇ、うちの会社にもゴロゴロいます
自分自身が満点で無いのに、笑える。他人のスコアを自慢する人ってどうよ。😅
TOEIC８９５点以上の人は年間ベースで上位4.2%。偏差値70が上位2.28%なので、895点は偏差値67くらいだと思う。英会話学校の事務職員なら2人に1人ベースでいると思うけど、一般企業ではあまりいないと思いますよ。ただ、学生が英語に全振りすると、日本社会では英語を使う職種がかなり限られているので、社会人になってからかなり苦労すると思います。
