  • While Jacksonville is celebrating its bicentennial, its Native American history is far older. Long before and well after French, Spanish, and British colonizers pushed into their lands, the Timucuas, Guales, and Yamasees transformed Northeast Florida into a center of diplomacy, exchange, and religion. Focusing on the deep Indigenous history of our region, archaeologist Keith Ashley and historian Denise Bossy reconstruct this changing Indigenous world and debunk myths of Native extinction.
