Thanks for this video dude, i am having it installed today and knew there were 2 x boxes to be installed but didn't know where the 2nd would be installed, but as you have shown it is a stand alone box that can be moved with just the 1 box on the wall. It saved me moving loads more furniture out of the way! i watched the update video too, but this is the one with the most pertinent info on for installation. i couldnt find this level of detail on the community fibre website even! top man :)

Im currently still in contract with BT and im thinking of cancelling while im in my cooling off period with comm fibre, because the outages are frustrating. im pretty sure although bt might cost more, they wont have cables dangling off the building. it will be more secure once they get around to it.
Amazing review man! glad you took the time to talk everyone through it! Just seen CF installed in my aread and I've been looking for an alternative to VM. Thanks!
The ONT box by CF is a bit of a disappointment, idealy it should be part of the white box they have put on the wall so as to reduce the number of items in the house.

Has anyone who lives in a house had CF install internet underground using existing openreach ducts for copper wires? I don't fancy a cable from a pole?
I ordered the same package gonna get it installed Tuesday they still do the 48 hours installation, they also offer 3gb for £50 Thanks for the video good information

Thanks for doing the video. A good overview of the Community Fibre residential service and an installation to a typical house. I've had the Community Fibre service installed and for what it is worth, thinking through carefully how you want it installed and what is practical, will help you get a job you are pleased with. A team of two took a couple of hours with my install and it is very neat. I have a copper phone cable overhead. That isn't touched so I have now got two connections from the pole, the old copper phone line (Openreach) and the new Community Fibre fibre optic connection. There isn't an obvious process for ceasing the physical copper connection from the pole.
Thanks for the review. Was the black box just a router? If so, how many ethernet ports does it have? At the moment I don't need wifi, just wired ethernet to a pc, so I just need ethernet to the pc now and maybe ethernet to wifi at some point in the future, if I ever get a tablet or smartphone, so two ports.
Hi. The black box is more like a cable modem. It has 1x Ethernet port that you can use to your PC. CF will give you a Linksys router as well . You could use an Ethernet port from there also to your PC. Either way will work. When you need WiFi in the future , you will have it via the Linksys. Hope that helps.
Too and too many devices. This is exactly that worried me the most about switching on them from VM. PON terminal is very cumbersome. Looks like devices how they looked 10-15 years ago. Morden PON terminals are much smaller, even for BT.
That is one area they could improve as well as number of ethernet ports. But I'd rather put up with 1 extra device to get symmetric service , decent pricing and deal with VM crap. Still working flawlessly 4 months in

2 Ethernet ports is a bit crappy, I have all 4 in use on my Draytek router for NAS, security cameras etc. So that would be a major issue for me unless you can install your own router? I know I could stick a switch on one of the ports, but now we're up to 3 boxes rather than the one I currently have! 🙂
Wow-That’s pricey for what u get.. I feel bad for those across the pond as they’re getting screwed on data.. I’ve got a 5gig symmetrical connect for $110mo with Verizon. Hopefully things improve quickly for you guys👍🏼🍺
The fibre cable terminates into the CF supplied modem (that part is compulsory), then a cat 5 cable connects the modem into a linksys router which has mesh capabilities. You can opt not to use the Linksys and use your own. The LinkSys is a bog standard Wifi Access point router.
I switched because Virgin package was very expensive. Linksys app says 950mb download but on the pc phone ps5 it’s actually nowhere near that high- actually equivalent to VM 100 or 200 MB. The modem only has one Ethernet hole. Good price
I've got CF coming to install next month, also with Virgin on 300mb speed. You were getting ripped off there, I am paying £27 a month. I'm a bit concerned when to let them know about the disconnection. I suppose when CF are up and running as you said, so for a month you are paying for 2 lots of internet?
Thanks for sharing. As others said, your video is very useful and informative. I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking. You mentioned not having good reception in some rooms. Do you think reception would improve if you were able to move the wifi router in the middle of the house? Similarly, how’s reception in the other floors of the house? I am currently renting a 3 story house, so I wonder if moving/placing the wifi router in the middle of the house in the first floor, would cover the whole house. At present I am able to do so with the wifi router provided by Vodafone, my current service provider. Thanks A
Hi Alex, If the wifi box was in the middle of the house then I think it would cover the whole house. (assuming it is a normal sized house) This wifi box seems better than the old Virgin one I had previously. I think your suggestion would work placing the router in the middle floor. You should get CF to bring the fibre into the middle floor. The only problem might be that you may need to then run a network cable from the grey box that the fibre is connected to (that you see in my video) to the Linksys wifi box in the middle room of the middle floor. Remember CF only can really drop the fibre cable inside the front wall of the house and so that is where the grey box would be located. Did what I wrote make sense?
@Westerdd Thank you for answering my questions. Your explanation was very clear. I will contact CF to see if they can answer/confirm if the installation can be carried out as I wish ... e.g. pass the fiber cable in the house on the 1st floor; and If CF has to/can only install the wall plug near the front wall of the house, provide a fiber cable (from wall plug to modem/grey box) long enough to move the modem and wifi router to the middle of the house. Channelling a CAT5 cable under the floor will be more challenging than passing a fiber cable ... I think. I have subscribed to your channel - is there a 6 and 12 months CF review coming :) A
@@alexmulas6766 They might be able to provide the fibre cable but you'd probably have to run it yourself. Maybe it would just be easier to buy a linksys mesh extender? Also before messing around running cables under floors it would be good to test that having the linksys box in the middle of the house would give coverage to the whole house, so you could test by running a long cat 5 cable (or fibre from wall point) through to the middle room via the doors. Not sure if I will do another video. Not much to update, but maybe I could just to report in that it has been problem free since 1st video
@@Westerdd Yes I'd run the fiber cable under the floor. As you suggested, probably a good idea to do a dry-run before I start lifting carpet ect. Hopefully, it will not be a problem for CF to provide a 10 meters fiber cable. I am a bit unclear how the modem and the wifi repeater connect and work together. Setup/installation was a pain but I think I was unlucky with the engineer who was rushing and probably didn't know what he was doing after a second visit from a different engineer they managed to sort everything out, so took about a week to get the broadband going (thankfully I didn't cancel with my previous provider). Sky's gone cancelled had ring did email first then rang lot easier then thought expecting gonna give be the run around but cancelled no probs think brsk I've gone with similar to community broadband I live up north west think different community providers installing old copper lines are getting phased out by 2025
Bt are liars saying I’ve taken out another 2 yr contract with them when I phoned to cancel my internet because I ordered Lila connect 1 gig
down 1 gig up
for £30 a month compared to £76
a month with BT all I get speed was 48 down 16 up
Thanks For The Info..Mate...
welcome mate :)
thank you for your rewiew!
just got 1gb for 25 a month hope it's good 👍
that's a great deal
Setup/installation was a pain but I think I was unlucky with the engineer who was rushing and probably didn't know what he was doing after a second visit from a different engineer they managed to sort everything out, so took about a week to get the broadband going (thankfully I didn't cancel with my previous provider). Since the successful installation its worked flawlessly havnt seen the speed drop below 700mb most of the time it's at about 930mb and hasn't cut out or failed once. Iv been using it for a week now.
@@Fabs8000 hi mate, how have the first 4 months been? Thinking of switching
@Jay hey, it's been great 👍 miles better than Virgin, I complained about the installation delay and the problems we had with the first engineer, they gave me my first 6 months free 😀 so 4 months in, with great Internet and still havnt paid anything
@@Fabs8000 Nice, glad you’re enjoying. Have you had any issues with internet going down? I’ve read some reviews about that online

Hi Edward, No issues until now, working great. Go for it! :)
I just wish I could get rid of virgin they have got so bad now ! If you get an outage they used to give you money off. Now they hide behind ofcom.
