    being moved into a this new position after years as a back who never paid attention to the forwards coach, really helped

    Hopefully this will help me this Saturday, as I’m playing my first ever rugby match as blindside flanker. My friend who use to play high level said on a defensive scrum as soon as I see their number eight get the ball, smash the scrum half lol

  • @sleezus1

    I've started playing Rugby about 2 weeks ago (in High School, so its much more lax).
    So this is really helpful to me, especially because I am confused as to what to do after a scrum breaks or during a ruck.

    For anyone who can take it and considering being a flanker do it - I was a 7 all the time and it is the best position! Fast action, can really disrupt the play, and lots of tackles. If you have endurance and can tackle go for 7. Always hated it when I got stuck in 6 because you don't get the same action and tackles, but it is great to be a 6 when you are tired at the end of the game. LOL

    The flankers are the loose forwards who stand on the sides or 'flanks' of the scrum who's job is to get to the ball as quickly as possible.

    • @christiansimmons630
      @christiansimmons630  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      when you say speed do you mean acceleration or out right top end speed?? for acceleration box jumps are a great way to build speed and power into the legs, you could also use the parachute method, sprinters use this as the parachute creates drag which you have to fight against. Having a running partner is also a good way do you can feed off each others energy and push each other!

    I've only played union once for a year but on the wing (because I was new xD) but have played league for a while (school but not for club although I am next year). Every time I play fir school I play second row, which quite different in union, I have decent pace and hit hard. I'm working on my tackling but when I run the ball I run it very hard and love doing so. I am 6ft and around 90-95kgs ish. What position should I play in union and league if you think you could make a recommendation? size isn't massively important when it comes to playing flanker, just look at Neil Back, he wasn't a giant yet was one of the best flankers in the world! as a flanker you need to be abel to quick and effective at the breakdown, do you have a preference of playing 6 or 7??

    I play 7 and during the scrum when the ball is hooked back and it ends up by the flankers feet, are they eligible to pick the ball up like a number 8?

    • @christiansimmons630
      @christiansimmons630  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jacob Wilson no i don't think so, you can use your feet, and only your feet, to guide to ball back to the number 8 but I'm pretty sure you can't touch it, it is only allowed to be touch by the hindmost player or the scrum half, but check this link out it has a debate about it www.rugbyrefs.com/archive/index.php/t-11752.html?s=a335cf120e6781db328a7756130f5687

    When Pocock was playing 6? The wallabies played him at 8 and Hooper at 7. They used him a lot for the end of the rolling maul. Together Hooper and Pocock are very good at muscling and winning the breakdown; but I think it affected the quality of the line out.

    • @christiansimmons630
      @christiansimmons630  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Pocock at 8 was to give the wallabies a dynamic back row, playing a crash ball 6 to do the damage and pockcock and hooper to make the tackles and the turnovers, those 2 at 6,7 for me would be fantastic!

    • @danlambert100
      @danlambert100 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pock is not a great carrier in open play; it is the turnover ball he wins at the breakdown that makes him so effective. I think the Wallabies got the right balance but NZ made a point of playing away from Pocock during the RWC. Hoopers speed gives him the edge at 7 over Pocock - but others beg to differ.

    • @christiansimmons630
      @christiansimmons630  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gallus of Sycarus I'm in line to agree which is why i think Pocock was put at 8 with Hooper at 7

    • @christiansimmons630
      @christiansimmons630  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you can't tackle i would make that a priority in your training, otherwise you're going to be a weak point in the defensive line. If you're strong and have decent ball handling skills you could play a ball crashing centre? the best idea would be to talk to your coaches about where you want to play and see what they say about getting in the right shape etc for that position, do let me know how you get on though!

      Yeah I've said that out of context, I meant in terms of being the "back row" but I understand they are more second row than back row in those terms!

    I need help with positions
    I’m REALLY heavy, 131kg right now
    I would say it’s all muscle
    I am 6”5 so I’m tall enough
    I can run 100m in 13 seconds

      Seán Darcy u would most likely be a small second row or you could play no 8 if you feel like you are fit enough to run more

      Depending on your weight, flanker or lock (if your a really big bloke maybe prop)

      +The False Brit id agree with jnd9000, you definitely sound like a forward, back row maybe be best suited to you but when you start training with your club/team the coaches will see whats suits you and you'll slot in there! hope it all goes well!
