You get to the end of the song and as Ren does so often he then breaks the 4th wall and says, "When HE gave up the fight, the decision he made stayed with me for the rest of my life. I miss you so." My suggestion, Ren - Seven Sins.
I've listened to it quite a few times now and I think Ren is speaking about both himself and Joe. We know Ren is very clever with double meanings, and I feel like a lot of this song could be describing his own grief or Joe's mental health. "I've been talking to the dead" could be a reference to something Joe experience, or Ren talking to Joe. "Do sad eyes blind me" could be a reference to Joe's depression, or Ren's sadness of losing his friend. I think this is an intentional clever use of language to have the song represent both of them.
I have heard this at least 30 times now. I have had people make this argument. I cannot say you are wrong, as you said Ren is very clever. I just speak my truth until I hear differently from Ren or a very informed person that has heard it from Ren somewhere. Godspeed
I lost myself as a teenager. Hanged myself at 18 and if the rope hadn't snapped none of the joys, like my young adult son, would have ever happened. Plus, my parents would have been forced to discover horror. Having nearly lost my son in 2021 at 26 years old, to leukemia, the terror and gut punching pain that i might truly lose my world really made me feel more guilty about nearly leaving my parents that pain. Luckily, he is 2 years in remission and will turn 29 on Sunday! I've also lost several to their own hands and that pain is a specially unhealing wound that can fester. That description in the song is so spot on for depression and suicidal ideation. The imagery it evokes. Being trapped in myself, unable to leave my bruised, broken body with dark secrets in my floors that others have told me, and then i lost the people to their own hand or they left or passed leaving me with this life-changing secrets that I'm supposed to take to my grave because I'm so trustworthy and everyone knows I'm such a good friend... I forgot how to be me back then and it took me years and years to find me again. A decade ago, i fell ill to a severe chronic pain disorder, coupled with hypermobility that caused so many injuries (Plus I'm clumsy as f*ck lol) that i don't exist without pain. So all my carefully fought and won pieces of myself and my mental health came crumbling and falling all around me. I can't ever go back to being that me and that's hard. It's one of the things that's taken me a decade to grieve and finally begin to accept. So now, I'm a broken 50 year old mom (with a VERY patient bf and son), who is trying to discover not only _how_ to be Me, but _who_ i can be... if anything more than a burden is possible Jesus, sorry that sounded so "wah poor me" lol. I have POTS it's aweful I used to be like a super hero now I'm losing my memory and can't function on a daily basis and I have also known loss. It's aweful the things people deal with. Lol I know that being in that awful dark place is so helpless, and there's no way out that you can see. I know that ending things seems so selfish, and it is, but not in a way that they can help. It's such an alone place to be that you literally _can't_ think of anyone else. That's why I always say, reach out to your friends. The ones that go quiet or change drastically. The caretakers and the funny ones... quite often we are hiding our own pain with jokes or caring or both. Sometimes just remembering that there's someone who cares can light a candle in all that darkness and give them more chance of seeing another way. I'm a burden, I know I am. My bf had to cut up my dinner for me yesterday because my left hand doesn't work properly (damage buildup from hypermobility, plus arthritis, plus nonunited scaphoid fracture causing vascular necrosis, ligament tear and carpal tunnel impingement. And that's just my left freaking hand!!) He doesn't complain, usually, unless I'm being particularly whiny (it happens, bad days suck). I feel like I'm becoming more dead weight every day. I'm so sorry what you're going through, but I'm glad you're here. Just know that you are here for a reason. Probably lots more than one. One thing, even though I'm not important, I needed to hear your kind words. Thank you Please take care of you and, remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. So fill your cup from time to time. One of my favourite Ren songs and it doesn’t get nearly the attention it deserves. It is a stunning piece of pure emotion written before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed.
Its pretty hard not to listen to more of these artists we are doing. We enjoy making these videos though so it's worth it in the end. It gives us something to look forward to.

Another masterpiece composition from Ren! :) Btw, if people have been talking about a song that's about Ren's best friend ending his life, they're usually talking about either 'Suicide' or a live recording he did called 'For Joe'. Sometimes they're referring to 'Frecled Angels', the title track from his first album. If you haven't heard any of those, they're all worth a listen! Suicide and For Joe are both quite dark but beautiful. For Joe manages to be uplifting at the same time. This track is about how Joe's suicide affected him, especially as it occurred at a time when his physical and mental health were collapsing. However, it's more ambiguous, until the ending lines , than those other songs. Joe is referenced more directly in them, which is why I think they may have been talking about one of them instead. :)

He got Suic*de song that talk about how he often thaught of doing the same but how it felt loosing Joe ( a 2 part same song) first on the subject was Freckled Angel, just talking who Joe was, and their is the last one, the complet greif circle with For Joe. All of them deserve to be listend to, but hey put some cool one in between 🙂
