  • One block from Kraków Old Town’s main plaza, the Saski recently re-opened following several years of refurbishment. It's a beautiful hotel, with great staff, rooms, breakfast and a luxurious swimming pool in the basement.
We took a train from Kraków airport to Kraków's main station (Kraków Główny). The train took about 20 minutes and was very inexpensive. Then it was just a ten-minute walk to the hotel.
The lobby is sumptuous, with bespoke, music-themed, artwork. There wasn't a wait at the front desk - we never saw a queue during our four-night visit. The desk clerk was really friendly and advised that we'd been upgraded as a result of our Hilton diamond status. Our room was 241 on the second floor.
The room was spacious, with high-end fittings and artwork. A welcome gift of cheese, honey and macaroons had been left, together with two bottles of water that were replenished daily.
There was a personalised welcome note from the manager.
The bathroom was lovely, although could do with some more hooks to hang bathrobes.
There were plenty of power sockets, USB points, a safe, bathrobes and slippers, a kettle and a Nespresso coffee machine, a hairdryer, an ironing board and an iron.
The wi-fi was fast and remained connected throughout our visit.
The view from the window was to the building opposite and street below. We weren't bothered by much street noise.
The good-sized television had only two English channels; both news. However, we discovered that some Polish channels offer movies in their original language - press one of the coloured buttons on the remote control to reveal that option.
The swimming pool is on floor -1 and we headed down for a swim. The pool is luxurious. There are only four beds by the pool so you may struggle to find one empty when busy. There is a 'relaxation room' with beds, but it seemed a little chilly. There are also two saunas; wet and dry.
Breakfast was one of the best I've experienced. A glass of Prosecco on arrival, a well-stocked buffet, quality coffee, orange juice and a good selection of cooked to order items. As with everywhere else in the hotel, the friendly staff couldn't do enough for guests.
The hotel has two side entrances that lead to the front desk.
In this corridor, you can see one of the original elevators - just a static display now.
The Hotel Saski is probably now the best hotel in Kraków. It could easily be a Waldorf Astoria rather a Curio and is now in my top-five Hiltons worldwide. I can't say enough good things about it.
