Mark Galer, Sony ambassador in Australia, taught me that release is miles better than balanced emphasis. I haven’t looked back since. I think you’ll feel the same way!
I am about to buy a A9III to go with my A1. I am really interested to hear how the high ISO raws perform from the A1II once Lightroom support is out. I shoot a lot of corporate events so high ISO performance is important.
Thank you for the video. I don’t shoot sports any more with my two A1 but like the way you value pre-capture and better quality images. For me since I also shoot an A7RV now I may move to only one A1 II for now and shoot my A1 as a backup. Take care.
I don't do sports or wildlife but still upgraded. 4 years of my life waiting for something better is worth more than dropping a few bundles now, and I could never go back to a mechanical shutter only after the A1.
I liked your video. A question for you. Is the eye recognition performance of the A1 II with AI subject recognition disabled the same as the A1's subject recognition? I shoot a lot of subjects who are wearing elaborate costumes and masks, are spinning very fast, are often obstructed (only viewable from behind), or who are partially obstructed by fire. (A similar problem to your issue shooting football players.) Will the A1 II's eye recognition give me any benefit over the A1 in this scenario?
a1II will perform better than a1 in the instance you describe... how much better, I'm not sure. I need more than one game to do more in depth on this topic :)
You say in the video to be sure to "turn off EVF auto exposure". Then you say "I have more information on this is this video" But I couldn't find the more info. Did I miss it or was it forgotten?
As a current A1 owner, I will not be losing $3-4k to upgrade for such minimal additions. At the end of the day, you’re going to come home with the same exact images/footage with this camera as the first generation.
i agree. you might get several to 10% more "keepers" for stills but yea your walking away with mostly the same photos. its cool fr'or me though because i dont have a A1 so i get to jump straight to a1ii. wonder how many will choose to upgrade
@ I don’t think many current A1 owners are going to upgrade from what I’ve been hearing. I just can’t see losing that kind of money for something with minimal upgrades for someone like yourself jumping into it then yes it is a great camera. I think I will most likely wait until the next generation. If the sensor were different I would most likely make the change but having the same sensor as well as the same frames per second I just don’t see it.
Excellent comments Patrick. I guess you can't open the .RAW files to determine if there is any difference in IQ between the two cameras. I don't care about JPEG quality, I shoot RAW. No improvements on video is appalling, when you know what Nikon is about to drop next year with RED codecs and algorithms built into the Z9ii & Z8ii. It's appalling to call this "parts bin, $2500 Firmware Update" camera, "α1ii" when it is clearly "α1ai"
@@PMRTV I think you are a bit confused about the AI chip - all the subject detection modes use the AI chip, it's just way faster than using the processors. If you disable the Auto mode and enable the Human mode then the camera won't prioritise human faces e.g. when the players face is turned away. You are still using AI when Human or Animal mode is enabled.

I don't need the camera, but I sure enjoyed the video! Love the narration! :)

Have you used r5ii? I’ve ordered my a1ii but the r5ii is looking pretty good.
Sadly, none of the Sony GM glass will fit or work on the R5II.
Do you turn AI off on the a9iii too ?

it's there but it's my menu settings for A1 video. You will have to dig through it to find it :)
@PMRTV Thanks!

Have one on order but waffling on whether to keep a1 or a9iii as second body for sports/wildlife.
it's great to have such good choices though...
Honest with that camera and lens round £17000 I think I could take great pictures
Mine is on order for my Wildlife photography here in the UK. A no brainer for Wildlife 👌
Do you think the screen quality and colour, WB and Skintone are about the same with a93 and a7r5?
Very close.
@ ☺️ thank you

Oh wow turn off the AI. When would u use AI?
I think nature shooters would benefit from the AI for sure
