If your looking at this case in the light of today and making a judgment, your looking at it wrong
This happened in 79 almost 40 years ago when life was much simpler and safer. People also had less reasons to distrust others.
Even today, many moms put there 1st graders onto busses

Ill never forget this case. I was a new mother and just terrified that my child would be ripped from me. I was a single mom for years. I always had a live in Nanny because I was terrified of them being out without me. My daughter slept with me alot until she was 16. I used to sleep with my arms and legs around her because I couldnt bear the thought of looding her. Im so very heartbroken for parents who lose their children.

I’m so sorry- thoughts and prayers 😭😭 I rly cannot imagine the pain of losing a child- especially in this way.
The good that came out of this is parents grasping the ugly reality of sin in the world and to keep careful watch & care of your children. To teach them at a young age to be self-aware, to not talk to strangers, and to protect yourself.
When it didn’t happen as often and news stories weren’t shared widespread in the media, people weren’t as aware. But now they can be. We can equip our kids and be a support system for one another. It’s the 97% of good ppl in the world vs. the evil sick 3%

No, 6 is not old enough to walk around alone. Even without pedophiles and murderers on the street, a 6 year old can get seriously hurt by themselves. That's why it's the law that children can't be unsupervised until they're 12 or older.

When I was 6 my mom still drove me to school. Why the parents would allow him to do that on his own at that age is beyond my comprehension. I get that times were a bit different back then. But then again the principle of allowing your 6 year old child roam freely on the street is really bad idea. If I had a son or daughter that age I wouldn’t think to let them roam around on their own like that.

For those asking why Etan was allowed to walk to the bus stop alone to begin with: In an article on the case it stated Etan's mother Julie ran a daycare out of the family home; that morning she had her hands full, which included the dilemma of Etan's older sister not wanting to get up. Julie told reporters Etan had been bucking for more independence, and took advantage of the business that morning to convince her to let him walk to the bus stop alone, assuring her he could do it; evidently she was reluctant, but finally agreed.

I thought the paper boy in Des Moines, Iowa was the first. We lived there from '77-'80, but I can't remember the exact year. It happened in our neighborhood and the dairy was just down the road. It was a simpler time as I'd never heard of child abductions or pedophiles and everyone was terrified for our children. Everyone did have to drive their kids too school but it was because we had record snow falls that started in November and piled up until late spring the whole time we were there. I do think they found his body. Have to see if I can find info about it....it's going to nag at me.

Johnny Gosch was also on the milk cartons, His mother said he had come after a few years and she invited him in and they talked, Johnny told her that he was still in danger but he wouldn't tell his mother where he was staying/living. The woman didn't have evidence so the police didn't do anything much else, They all thought the woman had gone mad. But his mother said he wasn't alone, He was with an older man. Potential kidnapper? But it doesn't add up, Why would a kidnapper let you see your mother? Or maybe that's who he was staying with? The mystery is still not confirmed. Johnny Gosch is still missing. Reply to me if you have any idea what happened to him and why? And do you think his mother saw him or is she going crazy?

I gues she did not value his life as she should. Children are precious ones to parents who love them. True love gives protection until they are able to function alone! Not at that age!!

if you care so little about your child has to let him walk out of your sight for any moment at just six years of age, you are willing to let something like this happen. No pity for the parents. you guard what you cherish, and you don't guard what you don't care about. Again. No pity for the parents

not the parents' fault but they contributed to it.

+Emma Klinsmann i agree that it is the fault of the perpetrator,BUT these predators lurk around looking for opportunities and when parents neglect their duty this way they provide that opportunity.

Whoever come up with the 'genius' idea of putting a missing kid on the side of a milk carton wasn't too bright. It is the most ineffectual form of mass information disemination. Also, nobody pauses to look at those silly missing kids bulletins in Walmart with the "every second counts" nonsense. Every second counts? Really now..

Why would you say something like that? He is suspicious because he was working there and had access to kidnap Etan Patz. Not because he gave the child a dollar. Are you ignorant or just stupid? People take great offense of this because you act like it is fun and all games, when this boy disappeared so many years ago with nearly no trace. Now please go read a book, your grammar is highly out the window. And please work on your words and how to be human. I think you forgot it midways.

Well my excuse is I am Norwegian, English is not my first language what is yours? My grammar is not fucked, in case you did not notice I write full words. My grammar really do not matter in the case of a missing child. I am just pissed off at ignorance.

+Penguin Bruh It's impossible for people now to understand how free life was then and before. I walked over a mile to school when I was in kindergarten and the first grade. I know my mom followed me the first few days to make sure I knew how to get there, but once she knew I was sure of the route, I was on my own. That was in 1960. We played outside without adults all day until way after dark all summer, no one thought twice about it. When I babysat in the 1970s kids were still doing that. They ran back and forth between houses all the time, the neighborhood was one big playground and family. People weren't afraid, kids weren't scared, everyone watched out for everyone. Life was more fun, carefree, enjoyable, not nearly as stressed as it is now. The mom wasn't the problem, it was the degenerate person that took this little boy and killed him. That should never be in doubt. In our society today kids should be free to play, enjoy the freedom outside their doors. The degenerate, sick creeps that do stuff like this should be executed as soon as they are found guilty and removed from society. When stupid people started a misguided movement claiming they could be rehabilitated in the 50s and 60s, life changed for the good people, and that's why this sick stuff has ruined life for the kids of today. So don't blame the mother, blame the silly people who think these sickos deserve a second chance.

+zuzu petals Yep. It was still sort of like that in the 80's as well. Although, I suspect it might depend on where you lived. In a big city? Maybe not. But definitely in the smaller towns and suburbs.

+Winston S. Yes we lived in relatively small towns. Sacramento, Los Gatos, Mission Viejo, Petaluma. They were small in the 60s and 70s, not now. Things have changed so much since then.

Emily: Your answer comes from needing to blame someone because what happened is too much to think about. I remember when Etan Patz had gone missing. I was about 21 yrs old, this was the first missing child I had ever heard of. Believe me, the parents of this boy have suffered so terribly and don't deserve to be hated or blamed. It wasn't like things are now, now we hear of every child that goes missing throughout the entire country. I walked to school by myself often when I was 6 yrs old in Brooklyn, NY. in the late 1950s. I walked to school by myself every year of childhood. Now I would never let a child even stand waiting for a bus by themselves. Parents in general weren't as aware as we are now, as we have been more and more with every year. I lost a son to homicide when he was 35 yrs old and even now as a mother i think "Could i have prevented my son's death somehow?" I didn't know the dangers possible in his life. ( a terrible thoughtless, ex-girlfriend ) because outwardly there didn't seem to be dangers. I've never forgotten Etan Patz. The cruel murder of one's child is unbelievable. The parents don't deserve condemnation in this case. Today I say yes, parents must be with children, we know how dangerous it is for even one block for a child to walk alone.

... and a generation of snowflakes was born - Jonathan Haidt is right. With sympathies for the unimaginable terror of child victims and lost parents... the reality is that life is fatal no matter how you play the game. Parents (and children) need to learn to assess risks & rewards with some perspective. Insanity is criminalizing parents of "free range children" (key word: FREE)

how can people believe there is a god when things like this happen ?
how could any god allow the parents to suffer like they have for all these years
some evil sick bastard most likely took that kids life for a few minutes of pleasure and condemned his family to a life of misery
what god would let that happen ?

    • @zc1425
      @zc1425 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If God controls ever thing we do or ever thing that happens wats the point of a hell or heaven and God wants to show his wrath and wat he is capable of.....and gods says that people who have suffered on earth will be rewarded in heaven only if there believers also it's more of a test he wanted to see after this much amount of time they still believed that God is the all knowing all merciful
