Great photos. Those locations and the weather looked tailor made for B&W. I've now added Shingle Beach to my ever growing list of photo spots to visit on my 2018 UK trip. Thanks for sharing
Great video Lynne! Beautiful seaside location, loved all the rocks on the beach. Cracking images. Especially the one of the little lighthouse and the sea defences. And a beauty of the windmill at the end. Really enjoyed this one! Keep well and stay safe.
Great images as always, really helpful for someone who is new to long exposures, Thanks for the tip on Tripod Shoes they look great. Love the Mono Lynne. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
really enjoying watching your vlog I'm a total beginner watching different vlog I'll definitely be trying some of your settings thank you beautiful images
I love your work and I agree - it is great to see a woman doing a video on this topic! Less emphasis on gear and more on aesthetic. Just starting to dip my toes into the long exposure waters and this was a great help. I live by the beach in Florida but there is nothing like these beaches! I just loved the old wood and markers. They certainly made for beautiful photos. Thank you for a wonderful video and also for reminding us Americans to take time out for afternoon tea! BTW...the scarf and sunglasses you had on at the end reminded me of Patsy on AbFab! :)
Hi Flo , just had a nosey round your website , beautiful water color images & I love the Old style american car ones 👍👍How wonderful, living by the beach in Florida , visited many years ago with my folks, vividly recall my 1st taste of Grits at a diner which were yummy & Palmetto bugs which were scary 😲Thanks so much for watching & for your very kind comments , afternoon tea is essential 😊 Abfab...what a series 👍
Shrimp and grits is my favorite Southern meal. LOL. I have subscribed and will keep in touch! You have pointed me in a wonderful new direction. Saving my pennies to get my hands on those wonderful (and very expensive) LEE filters. Thanks for the inspiration!
I wish we could get proper Grits over here , the english versions are just not the same ! Glad I've been of use , LEE are expensive but very very good. I'll keep an eye on your website & look forward to seeing some lovely long exposures :-)
If you are on Flikcr or Facebook, send me a message with your postal address and I will ship you some real stone ground grits form Georgia the next time I go up to Tallahassee!
Lynne I noticed you have gone to the Z50 I have the d7100 and numerous lenses what are your first impressions I do not know weather to wait and see if they do an upgrade in the future
Hi Nigel ....I was umming n ahhhing over the change, forced a bit by a focus issue on the D7200. But I have to say ,so far I'm quite impressed . It's taking some adjusting to & I've plenty left to learn about it but so far, so good 👍
Another really enjoyable video Lynne. I love the way you talk us through what's in your mind when you compose your shots. By the way - I'm getting Page Not Found when clicking your Smugmug link.
A very interesting video, Shingle Street is one of Lee Ancaster's spots and I must say your monochrome of the little house looked comparable to his. Definitely subscribed and looking forward to seeing more videos.
Thanks Mark , really appreciate you watching & commenting . I really like Lee Acasters work, it was his mono images that inspired my attempts at Shingle Street Beach & I'm flattered you have compared my shot to his, gives me encouragement to keep trying :-)
Hi Lynne! Nice video and images! The black and white are beautiful. I went out to our lake during a windstorm yesterday and uploaded some black and white as well. It really adds something moody to the right image.
Hi Rachel , love your curved Tree image 👍 You're right , Black & white can work really well on the right image , lots of contrast helps bring out the detail 😊
Just found you on TH-cam. I love Black & White, long exposure and seeing other female photographers. I'm in the beginning stage of learning this style, and really liked your images!
Thanks for the sub Rosalie & welcome aboard 😊 Good to have another female photographer out there , hope you're having fun learning the joys of log exposures 👍
Thanks for video. I like the look of the snow shoes do you know what the maximum diameter of the slot to put tripod leg is? I have looked on Manfrotto website but no measurement. I have a Feisol tripod. Thanks
John Edwards.....the Base of my tripod leg is approx 1 & 1/4 inch and it fits quite nicely .I think the snow shoe would probably take up to 1 & 1/2 inch. hope that helps 👍
I am so happy to follow another woman photographer. And you are good! I follow Rachel Lerch from Canada and just learned of you. You are plenty good to give advice. Advise away! We are ready to learn. Lovely images today.
Thank you so much Janet , very kind of you to say. I love Rachels work , always so full of enthusiasm & top notch images as well . Welcome aboard & I hope you continue to enjoy my channel 😊
Lynne, hi Lynne and Maddie, enjoyed your channel as usual. I see your using the same photo backpack that I’m thinking of buying. Are you pleased with it? Is there anything you’d change? Thanks
Sorry I am so late seen your video, but love the places, the photos, the sunglasses, and love the nice photographer..!! Salutation from the far chilean patagonia, You must came here someday, it is the dream for photography..
Still one of my favourites videos of yours, Lynne. Keep coming back to this one. Could you tell me where you purchased those "snow shoes" for your tripod and are they compatible with any tripod? Never seen those before.
Hi Murat , it is a lovely location, need to get back there at some point 👍 I bought the Snow Shoes from a UK company ( not sure where you're based ? ) called WEX Photographic but they are available on Amazon , Just search for Manfrotto or Gitzo Tripod Snow shoes 👍 The way they secure on to the tripod leg I would expect them to be fine with most tripods but obviously I've only used them on mine ( Vanguard VEO & Giottos) .Hope this helps 😊
Lovely video Lynne, glad to have discovered your channel. The cages on the posts are radar reflectors, presumable to alert ships to the presence of the grones.
Your photography is certainly good enough for you to give advice. I have been to some of the sites you went to and have not done so well as you did. I am now going to go back and have another go. Have subbed and liked.
Concerning your white balance setting, you left me wondering why 10k? Why not Auto or 5k for that matter? I'm still wondering. Loved the windmill and that color beach image.
Hi Steve, I always use 10thou WB when using the 10 stop filter as that equates to daylight WB,so if I want to leave the image color there's no faffing in post processing. 5k wb would be way to cold with the 10stop on . I got into the habit of setting the wb manually rather than relying on Auto WB & the habit has stuck . The less I have to do in post the happier I am 😁 Hope that helps 👍
A really interesting vlog Lynne, you managed some lovely images, particularly those taken at Shingle Street. I have subbed and am looking forward to seeing the next instalment. Take care. 🍀👍
Andy Keeble ,thank you Andy ,Shingle Beach is fascinating ,hoping to get back there again later this year. Thanks for the follow, hoping to improve as I learn more 👍
May I thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips. I wonder would you be kind enough to give me the link Lynne of where I could purchase those Snow - Shoes ???
Hi Allan Davies , here's the snow shoe link www.manfrotto.co.uk/tripod-snow-shoes Might not work as on my phone but lost photography stores sell them I think 🖒
Hi, Lynne. Really enjoying your blogs and finding out about new locations. When you shot at Shingle Street was it high tide or low tide, and what would your preference be?
Hi Jezz , good to know my channel is of help 👍 I really can't remember but I think the tide was possibly out . It depends what type of image I'm after , tide going out is great for those images where you want water trails , coming in for crashing waves over rocks . I just love being at the coast 😊
Hi Nigel ...I use a sunwayfoto L bracket ( universal fit for nikon ) & found by jiggling the position I can get it to fit. Is a lot easier now I have a Benro geared head as that comes with an arca Swiss plate which is attached to the L bracket & that gives a bit of extra clearance . Hope that makes sense 👍
Hi Lynne, just subscribed after watching you for the first time. Very nice work and this is only after watching you once but your vlog is very similar to Thomas Heaton and I think your images here are as good too. Loved the presentation and the Dovercourt image in color was excellent! Looking forward to catching up on all your past vlogs, but do feel free to pass on things you've learned as we can all learn from each other. Cheers from the other side of the pond!
Welcome aboard J Mauler , thanks for subbing 👍 Gosh , very humbling of you to mention me in the same sentence as Thomas , I do admire him & he's been a huge inspiration for me , always good to have something to aspire to ☺
Thank you Lynne, Yes Thomas is amazing, I very much enjoy his channel and his images are inspiring, he has really changed my approach to photography. Also thoroughly enjoy your channel, you both are a treat to watch and your personalities are very charming. Keep up the great work and hope to see you photograph in the States someday. Joe
Was waiting for the vid to end to ask you about the feet on your tripod, and then you told me anyway. Live in Bournemouth so know where you are coming from. Thanks for the info, and thanks for a great set of images
Helen Higgs ...hope Helen, the Snow Shoes are a brilliant bit of kit,Mafrotto is the make I think. glad you liked the vlog & images. Thanks for watching & commenting 👍
Hi joseba iñaki elorriaga arrieta They are called Manfrotto 230 snowshoes & fit many different tripods . I'm not sure what country you're in but here's a link for you : www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5548-REG/Manfrotto_230_230_3255_All_Weather.html
Thank you ,in Amazon.es,i haven´t problems to buy it ,quiet cheap.A friend use cds by the same function but he lost thems in every sessions on the Cantabric beach waves
Angeline Huang .....from memory I was using the D7200 nikon with the 17-55mm Nikkor lens in the main , a couple of images were taken with the 70-200 f2.8 . Hope this helps 🖒
That first image with the beach curving to the right really entices the eye to "go for a wander". Forget about leading lines pointing into the picture, it is just as great to follow a line to the edge and to imagine what lies beyond. Granted, leading lines into the picture are a way to combat short attention spans and keep the eye lingering a little longer before we scroll on. Besides, your framing was pretty much the only way to capture the restfulness of the scene. I would have maybe brightened up the roofs a little bit, but that is just personal preference.
Thanks for the indepth comments Matt , really appreciate you taking the time. It's a location that needs a re-visit in better light to really show those lighthouses at their best 😊😊
Nice video. Always enjoy doing long exposures! End results can be so dramatic. I loved your last photo!
Great photos. Those locations and the weather looked tailor made for B&W. I've now added Shingle Beach to my ever growing list of photo spots to visit on my 2018 UK trip. Thanks for sharing

Hi Martyn , not a clue I'm afraid but I'm fairly sure coaches do that route at sensible prices 👍

Is it okay if I leave the image sensor open for two days?
Why would you want to ? Its not something I'd do.....
hi.. what are your camera gear for this ?
Angeline Huang .....from memory I was using the D7200 nikon with the 17-55mm Nikkor lens in the main , a couple of images were taken with the 70-200 f2.8 .
Hope this helps 🖒

Oh no, milk first.🤣
That is a lot of gravel.
PS. Just love your accent BTW
Lol......it's my posh voice 😅
Fascinating place. Bit far for me unfortunately
it certainly is David Pearce . why not make a weekend of it ? plenty to photography around there. was about 4 hrs from home for me but well worth it 👍
I got laid in Dovercourt when i was 17 !! Lol
Lol...there really is no reply to that :-o
