  • Bron Hebog is a stunning 009 scale Narrow Gauge model railway layout based on Beddgelert and the surrounding area on the modern Welsh Highland Railway.
Today on The Railway Room is a look at Bron Hebog, the famous large model of Beddgelert on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways in North Wales. Modelled in 009 scale and measuring 25 feet long with scenic areas 7.5 feet deep, the layout has been acclaimed as one of the finest achievements in 009. Built by Rob and David Waller.
The layout is seen here at the Manchester Christmas Model Show in 2022, with a special surprise cameo filmed at the final Warley NEC show in 2023. It has been edited together using audio taken from my own videos filmed on the real Welsh Highland Railway.

Thanks. I think I read that it's so big that the whole thing has only been together a handful of times! It's a stunning piece of work

The whole thing can be assembled in the sitting room if every piece of furniture is removed - for some reason this is not a very popular idea. Can’t imagine why….

    Huge isn't it.
If you made one like that on your youtube you'd soon get lots more subscribers.
I bet all those sounds took some editing.
All that stock was kit build before the RTR started coming out - what a job - and the scenics are spot on. Those houses are very good.
Every time you see this layout you spot something new.
One thing at 05:00 - :30 I don't know if my eyes are going funny, but looking at the motion, do you think the Tasmanian K1 has a different wheel size on each bogie ?
The other Garratts seem to be the same . . . .

Aha yes, I can only dream of making something this size! 😂
It really is a layout you can lose yourself in, I must have spent hours in front of it in Manchester, and the quality of the kit and scratch building is superb!

Each power bogie on the Garratts has a separate motor, and unfortunately despite having identical wheel sets and gearing they can end up running at slightly different speeds.

Most of these locos are the old Backwoods kits, now discontinued, very expensive and challenging to build well. There are rumours that a major manufacturer has measured the NGG16s with an aim of producing ready to run models, but nothing announced as yet
