The Big 3, throughout NBA History this term has been used pretty ambiguously with all types of 3 man tandems, but one thing we can agree is that whenever that term is thrown out, there are certain expectations that come with becoming a big 3 whether you like it or not. From the trio of Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, and Pau Gasol trying to form a trio to win a championship before Kobe gets too old, to the Brooklyn Nets making one of the best trios of All Time with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. But one of the things they have in common is the failure to produce a championship. So on today's Tier list lets compare and contrast the most disappointing Big 3's in the Modern Day NBA Era!

The Harden-Irving-Durant could've been the craziest trio. There's never been so much offensive talent on a team, and it's incredible to watch (When everyone is healthy). That series against the C's really showed how good they are (Especially when Harden is still in his prime), it's literally impossible to stop
I watched EVERY Nets game when that Trade happened because they played so well together 😭. It was like a AAU game every time they played 😂

40 y/o Malone offensively was at his most inefficient at lesser volume and also was at his worst defensively. 35 y/o Payton who, while was still very serviceable, was at his worst in the playoffs. It was just one season and should definitely be seen as a failure on Kobe and Shaq's part, no doubt!
@@tameloszn wtf are you talking about? The only reason the 2004 LA lost was Kobe, in those finals he took 6 more shots than Shaq and still Shaq scored 4 more points than him.

The 2022 lakers should not be on here. Everyone in their right minds knew coming inti the season that the Lakers were not a superteam/big three. The way we expected them to be good was; their defense (which was top 3 the previous two seasons under vogel) and the idea that lebron and ad could be healthy enough to be the dynamic duo we saw in 2020. The idea was for russ to be a lebron lite of sorts, so if lbj got injured the Lakers would have someone to confidently run the offense. People really just looked at the names and jumped to conclusions.
Yeah that’s the point 😭. I’m sure you know how hyped up this team was. I am unfortunately very optimistic so I was in the camp of “this is so crazy it just might work” and ofc the opposite happened. But either way you look at it they traded away all that player capitol for a top Pg in the league (depends on who you ask) and by that definition it’s a big 3. I can say the same for the Melo move because of his ego and he became a negative for them 😭. But it’s still a tandem of 3 All Stars/All NBA talent
They were hyped up as a team that would win the championship that year and people saying they were going to win 70 games when it was never going to work

The Nets are bad at drafting. They would’ve never picked Tatum and Brown. You gotta realize that even though they could’ve had draft picks, that does not mean they would use it wisely. Especially bad organizations like the Nets.
The Kobe big three was D tier bro. Even on the court together they looked bad. What puts them above the Clippers big three which actually won 50 games multiple times, gave us lob city and changed the Clippers from being an NBA punchline to a franchise most now respect?

I'll never understand the 2014 Nets being a superteam or title contenders. After the 2013 Celtics season was over they said it's time to break it up because they are old. So you trade your future for half a decade and players for the same players deemed old and the reason why the Celtics broke up. They just aged a year and switched jerseys. I knew then they weren't competing with the Heat or for a title.

The Bulls should not be considered a Big 3. From the beginning It was considered a Big 4. Unfortunately with Zo going out in the middle of the season last year. Everything crashed afterward.
I understand if ppl want to call it a big 3 but to us bulls fans. Lonzo was a large part of the lineup.

Nah I disagree with Irving, Durant, and Harden being destined for a championship had they stayed together. All three are primary scorers with Irving and Harden in particular being extremely ball-dominant. You can't have three primary scorers in the same starting lineup.
Compare to championship big 3s: Jordan was the scorer, Pippen was the 2-way playmaker, Rodman the defensive animal. Likewise, Garnett was the defensive rock while Allen was the sharpshooter and Pierce was the iso scorer. LeBron was the 2-way hybrid, Wade was the crafty scorer, Bosh was the defensive anchor. Klay and Durant were primarily scorers, but Curry had more off-ball play play and assisting ability (with Draymond being the defensive nuisance). Not one of these championship squads had three score-first stars on the floor at the same time
If all three stars share the same base characteristics, the team becomes inefficient and dysfunctional and isn't built for a championship

I can't believe you ranked the Nets big 3 that high. They had the most potential and wasted all of it. They are clearly the biggest bust. What's worse is that almost none of the issues that caused the downfall were related to basketball. They failed because there was no leader on that team.
There was a lot of injury involved, and in all they only played 16 games with each other 😭. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt because they didn’t even get to play with each other
