"Fix" MMCS Incorrect Date & Time Display - Mitsubishi

  • Users of Mitsubishi Multi Communication System (MMCS) encounter an issue whereby when the vehicle is turned off, MMCS date and time is reset to some time in 2004 or 2005. This issue began in October 2023. Until there is a fix from Mitsubishi, I have resorted to this method. GPS/Navigation will no longer work with this method. Affects Mitsubishi Lancer, Outlander, Galant, ASX, Proton Inspira and any cars with MMCS J01, J02, J03, J04, etc.

    It seems that Mitsubishi must have been aware of this problem and has done NOTHING for last 20 years. I wonder if any law office would take interest in litigating this clear negligence. For one, I will NOT buy Mitsubishi products (same as Ford's).
    UPDATE: I just checked this procedure WITHOUT disconnecting the GPS antenna, and IT WORKS! However, I did this inside the garage, so no GPS signal was available. It seems to accomplish the same as physically disconnecting the antenna. THANK YOU. I did turned the car off for a while and started it again. The updated time sticked and my maintenance screen is back. I will wait few hours/days and see if this corrected the problem for good.
    THANK YOU @myautodiy for this video.

    What version do you have in the radius that allows you the map of Puerto Rico and where did you get it?

    • @myautodiy1640
      @myautodiy1640  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The map is not Puerto Rico, it's actually Europe. The original system's map/language on this unit was Japanese. The unit has been modified to use the maps from Russian MMCS and OS from US MMCS. That's why you see US time zone.

    So I have to sacrifice gps capability to regain access to other features? What's up with that. I really need to fix this because I don't have a hardcopy of my maintenance records and the MMCS locked me out since the date and time are wrong.

      My maintenance records are accessible again after disconnecting the GPS and setting the time manually.

    To change the date simply remove half of your dashboard, disassemble your head unit, remove gps, reinstall head unit, access secret menu, access secret-secret menu, change some random spreadsheet and off you go, simple

      You don't have to disconnect GPS, but preform this procedure inside the garage, or in the mall-parking lot under the roof, so no GPS signal passes through. I did it and it worked.

      Update: I was too fast in sending the good news on need to disconnect the GPS unit. After diving for 10 minutes the GPS unit acquired few satellites and the issue of date returned with no access to Maintenance screen, no "time travelled" and the date is back in 2004. Total mess.

    Have you tried plugging in the gps since doing this?
    As I understand it the gps satelites send out a date code that due to the number of bits allowed rolls over to zero every ~20 years. The software coding in the MMCS unit thus, recently (october for me) reset to whatever its zero date was (sometime in 2004 or 2005 for me). "The GPS Week Number Rollover happens every 1,024 weeks (19.6 years)"
    So I'm afraid Mitusbishi will have no interest in making a software patch for this age of vehicle. The only way I can think of is to remove the hard drive and hack into it and see if the hard coded date can be reset so it works for another 19.6 years.

      @@myautodiy1640 Tonight I'm going to attempt going into the menu and just updating the gps clock in the menu like you show, but not unplugging the antenna. I'll try to update with the result.

      Ok I unplugged the antenna and it let me set the date just as shown and I could see the maintenance log, so I plugged the GPS back in. Unfortunately as soon as I restarted the car it went back to the jan1 2005 date setting

      I unplugged the antenna, set the time like the video shows ( by the way thanks) and it's worked accept the time but after a while driving the time was correct and then after I turn it off and turn it back on I did the same, so idk what to do now it won't show the maintenance features
