    I have about 841 plugins. The longer i do this, the more i use the logic stock eq.

      Logic stock plugins work just fine. it's all about how you use them and what you do with them.

    Thanks Mark for your music and your Heron Island TH-cam channel!
    I really enjoy your guitar style, and I guess a big influence is Allan Holdsworth, right? You have your own unique sound of course, but I can hear the great Allen Holdsworth shines through from time to time.
    He joined the same label as you, when he was in his latter years of his career. He released his last music with “Soft Works”. “Abracadabra in Osaka” is an outstanding album, thank you for the fantastic remastered version! 🙏🏻

      Thanks @thorstenweimar1190 it's appreciated! Yes Allan is an influence, also Metheny, Rypdal, and Hendrix. Possibly even more influence from sax, horn players and vocalists! Yes Abracadabra in Osaka was fun to work on. Cheers!

    Your room matters the most....if u have a bad room, youre almost always going to struggle no matter what plugins or gear u have. If youre struggling and seem to never be able to to get your production to sound "full" or "done", its your room, same w mixing.

    thanks for this. It's interesting cause I was literally thinking last night how important being in a flow state can be. I'd just been mixing for about 7 hours and it was about 4am and I was really happy with what I'd done. I think partly because I'd done it all pretty much in one sitting and therefore had all the things I was trying to achieve balanced in my head. When I do bits and bobs across days/weeks I forget why I made certain decisions and what's supposed to be occupying what space.

    If you want a compressor with insane amount of control you can get TDR Kotelnikov for free. It's a transparent compressor so it doesn't add any character to the sound but it has soo many parameters and very detailed overall

    I have been writing for about three years and about ready yo start creating my tracks but I have a very basic understanding of how to do a mix. Mixing and mastering is something I would like to learn but I am very limited by my budget to learning. I write instrumental guitar so bass, drums, piano/ synth and of course guitar is what I use.

    All due respect, yes you can achieve a pretty good mix with stock plugs, but for “GREAT” mixes, the right plugins/hardware are vital. You can build a house with a hand saw, a hammer, and nails, but you’ll cut down on the time and improve the quality of your work with power tools. I’ve recently invested in some incredible analog gear and have AB’d vs the plugins and to me, its a no brainer. The hardware kills the software. If you are serious about this, you know you need to invest in your craft. You don’t have to buy all the gear either, you can always pay for studio time at a spot that has all the high end gear you need and use their patch bay to reprint to your laptop.

      I agree. Also, UAD spark is a great deal. I have been mixing and producing for years and I honestly think they have improved my sound. My favorites being the 1073, 1176 and the LA 2A. Also many engineers are completely in the box now. I believe Jaycen Joshua said that he mixes 100% in the box now.

    • @AllOutOnline
      @AllOutOnline ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RealGabeMcGuire the UAD plugs are fire. I just do not submit to subscription services, i completely refuse to be enslaved by these companies and if I miss a payment I cant access my mixes to make changes. This is another reason I moved to analog gear, although I still use a handful of great software. Fab filter, Spectrasonics, the list goes on and on. Look at Waves for example, the power we have made them switch from subscription to ALL OF THE ABOVE which is a good model. Give customers the option to own or lease. I will say though, yes the plugins are getting close, but there is just something to analog, the warmth and the authentic nature of how those circuits are being hit by signal make a difference. I love Warm Audio for example but 500 series units are also a good way to go. I challenge all you guys to give them a try and compare them to your plugins. In the box is liberating because you can move around more freely, but that analog gear is magic.

    I don't use stuff like bx_console because you can't set min/analog/linear phase and there's no oversampling. I.e. doing something with bass I may be using filters on parallel tracks. bx_console would just cause a time loss because I'm going to end up needing to pull up another plugin anyways to test with linear phase.

    • @user-yk4gd1fl4z
      @user-yk4gd1fl4z ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol wut? Way over thinking it dude. BX console has been used on million sellers. Linear phase …pfft.

    Logic stock plugins are half-cheating. You guys really do have everything from the get-go. I find bus compression and saturation are hard to do well outside Logic or Ableton without the help of third party plugins. And there's of course the question of going for a specific character with compressors but I agree, any mix can be pretty much transformed with just stock plugins.

    mixing is not rocket science you just need recordings in the norms and standards some mixers just need to move the faders and call it a day you gotta learn when to not use eq compression and fxs
