    You always execute with such a clean surgical precision and at the same time provide the pertinent instruction to simplify for the viewer. Thank you for providing such valuable information to allow tiers to continue to improve. Well Done!...as usual.

    When you think with almost 1000 fly tying videos, inspiration would be harder, you come up with another great looking pattern. Thanks for sharing Mr. McPhail!

    Hi Davie. Nice fly. Will definitely be adding this one to the box. I have tied a few up like this but with the hackle at the front, with a fine copper wire rib (to sink the butt end in to the surface film), on a bare thread body, with and without tails. I'm sure there will be named version of these, but it is something that I cobbled together. I've been trying to copy the very small midges that seem to come off even on cold days, even with minimal sunshine. TBH they have caught me a lot of fish off the top when others have been struggling.
    Being as frugal (tight) as I am, I have been using fibres from moulted swan feathers as posting material, even the fluffy bits that don't seem to be much use for anything else. Can see this at the max. distance I can cast. I will definitely change to your method of tying in though, to try and save some weight.
    I commented on a previous clip as to how you have helped to save me from going stir crazy during some difficult times, and this remains the case. But, more than that, every walk out with the dog has now turned in to a foraging trip, so the dog now gets extra (and longer) walks. I'm sure if he could, my Jack Russel (Wilf) would thank you too!

    Nice little "sailboat" which must float very low, like a real insect. I was surprised by this way of tying the hackle in a "parachute", which I did not know (folded towards the back). Interesting. Have a nice week end.

    WHOA now that is a nice fly! whoooo hooooo.. @4:39 after the tail tip, the variations you mention for the body sound awesome... you mane the dubbing look so easy too. That was a perfect dubbing job... (close up camera cant lie) @ 6:13 your parachuting of the "at least 10 strands of floss" is text book... it has shown me how to make a parachute properly. (a skill i am all thumbs at but that has changed now!) man I really need to tie this to get my skills sharpened... WHOA What a Beauty!! yes i did enjoy that . thanks J (great waxing technique too..)

    Great variation pattern. Used to see evening duns when I lived in Idaho. Wife and would fish till after dark, looks like a great pattern for the sulfurs we find here much further east in the US. Have caught a lot of fish on a hair wing dun during the sulfur hatch on the tail waters here, seemed to work exceptionally well. Any good hair wing patterns for that hatch in your repertoire?

    Hello Davie,
    Would you say what colors of Glo-Brite floss you find most useful? I don't tie what are called 'lures', not salmon and steel head flies, either... if that helps narrow things down to less than sixteen... =]

      @@DavieMcPhail I was wondering if you could do a tube fly using a little blue,silver and orange colours. I do some steelhead fishing about two hour drive from where I live. It’s in a tributary from the Great Lakes. In the spring and fall is the best times to go. Thank you so much my friend. Best Regards from West Virginia, Ken

    The only problem tying this fly is finding decent CDC. I could make a half pound of CDC dubbing from the culls trying find feathers that work.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ze Kragash,
      I know CDC can be a pain to find so I looked up on the internet for bulk CDC and I found some on Alibaba in China, I bought a kilo of white which cost me $360...I took a risk but it was good enough to use and dye so I was very happy, I sold most of it to a friend as I didn't need it all so I should be ok for many years..
      All the very best Davie

    • @zekragash4294
      @zekragash4294 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DavieMcPhail A kilo?! Must have been its own container on the ship! Can't imagine the volume of a kilo of loose CDC. I have had friends that hunt harvest them for me and bought countless packs from various suppliers. Average about 10% usable feathers for wings, regardless. Add to that the hours spent sorting. Love the stuff, though.
