Well, every era has its fashion... Check out the live version of this song at Montreal 1981, my guess is you will give it a 10 out of 10, talking about having some notes...:-)
Freddie Mercury in an interview 10 years later: "If I had long hair and the fingernails and the whole thing I'd look ridiculous. I mean, I looked ridiculous then, but it worked.” 👑🥂😂
He actually looked gorgeous, IMO. On stage and off. Beautiful hair. Mystical black yin and yang fingernails, balancing the light with the dark. I never really liked any of his later looks as much, to be honest.
He wore those kinds of outfits on tour in the mid 70s, switched to jeans, then back to the tights in 85. If you haven’t yet, check out their live version from 1981 Montreal. That performance was iconic.
This is the video of the recording or a practice session. Please please please please watch the live version in concert - Montreal 1981. You'll be blown away.....
Those cups are tea, some with honey some with lemon. Freddie's crew set them up for him. One was usually water also. Sometimes there was a beer up there too. This era was know as Glam Rock and the bands wore these crazy outfits, high heels and makeup. Both Freddie and Brian wore nail polish, Brian wore white varnish and Freddie wore black varnish. Freddie also wore ballet slippers with these tight body suits known as unitards, worn by male ballet dancers. Freddie had a degre in Fashion, Design and Advertising and he felt that costuming was a very important part of a performance. If you check out David Bowie, or even Prince, you will see crazy outfits for shows.Freddie wore whatever he wanted and he was able to pull it off. One concert in Montreal, he came out on stage with just a tight pair of white short-shorts, a bandana around his neck, no shoes or socks and totally smashed the performance. The crowds were used to Freddie and Freddie found humor in his costumes. Off stage, Freddie dressed quite normal but have a party or a performance and you just never knew what you were going to get with him, other than incredible musicianship and vocals.
Take a look at Jimi Hendrix, a big style influence for Freddie. Look at Prince. BE flamboyant if that's what lets you, helps take you, gets you to where you want to go. He had a private life very different than his stage life...yet at the same time, Freddie took a certain pleasure of injecting his . love of ballet and opera, bringing elements if into rock. Queen was different (certainly with 4 singer songwriters) but also because Freddie led with bold, big ideas.
Wonder what people 40 years from now will be saying about young men wearing their pants down around their knees like they have done for the last 15 years or so. It’s all relative to the time period. Judging by the bands iconic and in many ways unmatched success those early outfits didn’t hurt them too much lol. Freddie was unapologetically Freddie and his singing and the bands talent and performances overshadowed anything they wore.
Years ago took our granddaughter to one of our grandson's high school football games. After the game, my grandson was talking to some boys who hadn't played, but were there for the game. We came up and my three year old granddaughter looked at one of the boys, pointed at his pants, and, in a voice clear as a bell, but marked by derision said, "Pull your pants up! That's not nice!" I have never been prouder!
It's the 70s, man alot rock bands wore these type of outfits and just a reminder Freddie the singer doesn't play keyboards he plays a piano remember that, the word is PIANO!!!!! Oh and back to his outfit it was a look and it worked for what they trying get across, just like there music and image.
You have no idea of the crazy fashions existed from the 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s...etc. Long hair, crew cuts, and on and on. When you begin to investigate other groups from those years, you'll see that Queen wasn't so unusual. Nexr, watch Someone to Love Live in concert.
You are a bit too twisted about the clothes or lack there of ! This was the 70s dude and the days of "Glam Rock " and many bands were into it. Besides, this is the legendary Freddie Mercury, greatest frontman in history, and Freddie wears whatever the Fuc! he wants. 🌈👑💙
No one told Freddie what to wear; he was a-serious performer, came before concert goers to give them their money's worth of entertainment, BTW this was primarily a studio made video AND the hand clappers were folks from the road crew underneath the stage hand clapping up thru holes in the floor. Queen put creativity, hardwork and talent into their productions. When you gonna react to their performance of this track in the Montreal Concert?
It's the 1970's something I remember very well it's called the fashion at the time and being individual in his choice, the very fact they made thousands of pounds in the UK last summer when over 30,000 of his items ( contents of his home) sold for over 30 million pounds without fees and taxes. We all have a choice it's about the music which the lyrics for this were also sold for hundreds of thousands of pounds, the stage Fred was very different from the private one which is exactly the same for the whole group
A lot of people (myself included) prefer the live version of this song from Montreal, in 1981. Quite unlike the studio version, it's an absolute knock-out high energy performance. Maybe you'll like Freddie's later moustache, Superman shirt and tight white jeans look better than than the floral shirts, ballet leotards and angel costumes in this one! In any case, Freddie had his own ever evolving ideas about fashion and style, and stuck to them no matter what anyone else thought of them. Whatever outfit he wore on stage, it tended to become separated from his body as the show wore on, sometimes ending up for example in nothing but a tiny pair of short shorts and jaunty neckerchief. Off stage he was actually quite shy and retiring, at least with strangers. A very sweet man, much missed by all who knew and loved him.
I’m happy your first listen was the studio version. Way back in 1976, I, along with other listeners at the time, first heard this on radio. That is the best way to hear a song for the first time. No distracting visuals, only you and the song. You have, likely, been steered to the watch the live performance in Montreal 1981. You should. You WILL be impressed. Freddie’s wardrobe in the 70’s was, sometimes, quite outlandish but he pulled it off with great success and charm. RIP, Mr Fahrenheit ❤
I understand what you're saying, I think. Like there are videos of people reacting to a whole lot of other people reacting to Bee Gees songs and being shocked to discover they're white boys. They 're hilarious. Since there have been quite a few funny reactions and comments regarding Freddie's unique fashion choices over the years it could be fun to see them all together in a video.
Queen was best when they were live. You gave this a 7. Would you listen to the live performance from Montreal in 1981 and let us know if it’s still a 7 Thanks. Do you have a playlist for all of your Queen reactions? Freddie’s wardrobe was all over the place. It was the 70’s. And he was confident enough within himself to wear leotard
Breakthrough kind of Magic(Wembley Arena) Somebody To Love (Montreal) White Queen (Odeon) Love of My Life (Rio) One Vision Who Wants To Live Forever ( video)
Thanks, Devante... I'm sure everyone is telling you to do the LIVE version in Montreal... this is just an awesome song, though.. Freddie was inspired by Aretha Franklin and "gospel"...appreciate your reaction... (p.s. Freddie.. and the entire band, in fact, chose their own styles... remember this was 40 years ago.. ain't nobody these days with anything more ridiculous?? lol)
yeah the glam rock era was an acquired taste. i’m 52 and still a bit young to appreciate the clothes they wore then. But Queen is awesome and I love their music so I don’t care about the clothes. it’s a 70s thing.
Freddie totally rocks a unitard and ballet shoes. Very courageous man. And brilliant song writer. Maybe best vocalist ever. I think you got distracted by the visuals and forgot to listen. 🙂 I can’t do both at the same time either.
If you want to see Freddie drunk check out the official video for Spread Your Wings. They were going to film this video and the video for We Will Rock You in the back yard of Roger’s newly purchased home. They signed their contract that day as well with their new record company and all received large checks. They were happy and celebrating. Unfortunately, it was cold that day so the mood changed and they were cold and cranky. Freddie was trying to stay warm by drinking brandy and got drunk. He ended up throwing up in Roger’s bushes. John Deacon, the bassist had to play the piano with his bass around his neck because Freddie couldn’t play. It’s hilarious watching Freddie try to drag the mic stand around at the beginning. At the end he starts swinging the mic and it’s a miracle he didn’t hit John with it. Video ends with Freddie walking towards the camera with the mic wrapped around his neck lol.
I know quite a few comments have been ragging on your comments about the funny outfits, but great reaction! And don’t worry, as the band goes on after this period in their career, the outfits in general are more reserved/ modest lol.
Your weird obsession with them/Freddie being drunk is ... weird. Also baloney. And are you unable to recognize the difference between in-studio clips and clips from a concert? A reaction of sniping about drinking and a shirt, with not much reacting to the freaking song. /eye roll And no, he did not throw a mic into the audience. Gawd.
Onstage looks change drastically over time, but you spent more of your time talking about clothing than music. You're going to keel over if you're ever introduced to David Bowie. 😂
This is a terrible recation. you hear a great song, stop it to joke about stage clothes, then just shadow clap as a gesture, which to me is ugly, and then approve it saying ok as if Queen really needs your approval? Where is being astonished, being amazed, celebrating geneousity? rediculous. to me at least.
Well, every era has its fashion... Check out the live version of this song at Montreal 1981, my guess is you will give it a 10 out of 10, talking about having some notes...:-)
Agree!!
It’s my favorite ❤️
You have to react to the live version!!! It’s so much better!
Freddie was outrageous, that's what he was. Take it or leave it, baby
Freddie Mercury in an interview 10 years later: "If I had long hair and the fingernails and the whole thing I'd look ridiculous. I mean, I looked ridiculous then, but it worked.” 👑🥂😂

These clothes are Glam rock clothes that bands wore 1970's
He wore those kinds of outfits on tour in the mid 70s, switched to jeans, then back to the tights in 85. If you haven’t yet, check out their live version from 1981 Montreal. That performance was iconic.
The leotard was from a concert performance. Clothes are part of the act.
The 1970's clothes are alot better and acceptable than clothes they ware now!!!
a legend like freddie mercury can wear whatever the hell he wants.
And he does do, wear and say anything he wants to!
Live!

FYI, Queen is the name of the band. Freddie Mercury is the singer, etc
They we loved and still love him !!! FREDDIE is the Goat!!!!
Should watch this song when preformed in Montreal. It's on tape, Also most of the cups on piano are tea with honey to protect Freddy voice.
Wonder what people 40 years from now will be saying about young men wearing their pants down around their knees like they have done for the last 15 years or so. It’s all relative to the time period. Yes!!! Agree.....pants around the angles are ridiculous!!!

The live version of this is great -- and I like what he's wearing in the live version more as well, lol

@@TammyWilliams-dg4iu I hope you see it for the masterpiece that it is. Please, let me know …
You gotta listen to their performance of this song in Montreal. The best
You are a bit too twisted about the clothes or lack there of ! This was the 70s dude and the days of "Glam Rock " and many bands were into it. Besides, this is the legendary Freddie Mercury, greatest frontman in history, and Freddie wears whatever the Fuc! he wants. 🌈👑💙
Ha that concert footage was a free concert for about 125,000+.
The live performance in Montreal is much much better , if that's possible.. A must react¡!!!!!
Imagine the guts you would need to have to waltz onto stage with a white leotard, especially in those days.
No one told Freddie what to wear; he was a-serious performer, came before concert goers to give them their money's worth of entertainment, BTW this was primarily a studio made video AND the hand clappers were folks from the road crew underneath the stage hand clapping up thru holes in the floor. You have to see this live from Montreal. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
Trust me everybody loves Queen no matter what they had on you got to look past certain stuff. If it doesn't affect you why should it be a problem
Freddie was NEVER boring!! ever!

React to this song live at montreal 1981. They're so much better when they're performing live!!

You should definitely check out the live in Montreal version.. it’s stunning
It was the 70s.
You need to do the live version. Montreal 1981

Freddie’s wardrobe in the 70’s was, sometimes, quite outlandish but he pulled it off with great success and charm.

All of those shots are only of Freddie in the leotards. The other band members would never have been game .Just Freddie he was very flamboyant 😊
There has to be videos out there that are nothing but people reacting to Freddie Mercury outfits 😂

Best reaction video ever. I cried laughing 😂
I prefer the stage performance.. great drummer skills displayed in the stage clip.
That's 70s fashion for you 😂😂
Freddie was Freddie, outrageous, wonderful and amazing as he was. I suggest you get over it and start admiring his talent and originality.
Somebody messed this recording up. What you need to see is the live performance they did in Montreal.
You gotta remember, this was 1976. Everybody was wearing crazy shit back then.

Very stupid comment. Fashion changes every year. This is 70's. Almost nothing about the song.
Well that’s rude lol
@@Imdevantewarner I didn't mean to be rude, but...
