I wasn't a fan of Bella's casting in the role of Ellie. She has completely changed my mind. Now I just see Ellie. She's brilliant.
The same here, i was a bit angry for ellie casting but the farther the series goes, the better little details she gets.

I definitely think the love Joel has for Ellie is more selfish than Din for Grogu. Din is willing to leave Grogu, let him train, if it's what he really desires. But Joel... Anyone whose played the game knows that Joel does not always have Ellie's wishes at heart, even if he is always trying to protect her.
i honestly love this take. joel loves ellie, you can’t really deny that, but his choice at the end of the game is arguably not made out of love. it’s the selfish desire of a broken man to not go through the loss of a child again, even at the cost of the entire world. even when that child herself was willing to do anything to save humanity. and i know people like to argue that joel was justified in his choice because a vaccine isn’t possible but regardless they don’t focus enough on the fact that everyone believed it could’ve worked. that as far as joel and the fireflies knew, killing ellie would have saved everyone. joel willingly robbed the world of a cure and didn’t even give a choice to the girl who has to carry that weight for the rest of her life. now don’t get me wrong i love joel and i absolutely support him dooming humanity in the name of ellie, but at the end of the day i just think it’s an interesting thing to look at the darker side of joel’s choice. a choice that wasn’t made with ellie’s best wishes at heart but instead with his own.
@@Diana-dn3bb Totally agree! I really love the ending to the game, because of the ambiguity. We know that Ellie wants what she's gone through to have a purpose, and to her, that purpose was helping the fireflies find a cure. However, she was never consulted about the procedure, she had no idea she was with the fireflies, let alone that she would be killed.
Would that have changed her mind? I really don't know, but it puts a spin on the ending when you consider that Joel might not have done it if Ellie had vocally agreed in sacrificing herself. I don't really fault him for fighting his way to save her, when the fireflies refused to wake Ellie and have her give consent.
Again, it is such a good ending because of the complexity and nuance... there are so many factors to consider, no 'right' or 'wrong' angle to look at it from. Just a physical manifestation of love.
Of course is selfish love. Joel just got another daughter and if it depends of him, he'd never let her go. He didn't even let her go on patrol or things like that he was afraid of losing her.
A parent trying to save you and wanting you to live beyond 14, it’s not selfish love. It’s what every parent should do with their kids. No parent should lose a child.

I was sceptical about Bella Ramsey for Ellie, even If I liked her as Lyanna Mormont. But honestly, she completely changed my mind, she is at 200% Ellie, she deserved the role. Her relationship in the show with Pedro Pascal seems to be really authentic as the characters in the game. Well done.

What will really be confusing, is that Pedro stars in the Mandalorian season 3, even though he was actually with her for the year most of it filmed. She really does need to binge watch seasons 1, 2, and the 2nd half of 2.5 before 3 comes out.

Brits in acting learn American accents from early on, and they benefit a lot from all the American media they have access to (TV, games, etc.) so it makes it easier to pick up. Thus why so many British actors have flawless American accents, while the reverse is unfortunately not true (e.g. Keanu Reeves in Bram Stoker's Dracula).
Beautiful Girl and a fantastic actress, huge future ahead for her.
